participated decide that instead of using paper ballots that they would vote by a show of hands. there are three more caucuses today. kansas, the u.s. virgin islands, and northern mariana island. romney is looking for more momentum with two primaries in mississippi and alabama. he was in birmingham yesterday, with the front man from the band alabama. romney stumped for votes telling the crowd his business experience makes him a better choice than president obama to help america's economy. romney is close to tied with newt gingrich and n. alabama and leading in mississippi. rick santorum traveled to kansas ahead of the state kkes day. the senator told crowds in topeka and wichita that he is the candidate to trust to scare off against president obama. santorum slammed romney saying he reinvents himself for whatever is convenient and simply can't be trusted. there are 40 delegates available in kansas. santorum right now is a distant

second to romney in the delegate count. meanwhile, newt gingrich says he's not going anywhere. the former house speaker told reporters despite being third in the delegate counts he plans to stay in until the convention in august. gingrich traveled all over mississippi yesterday stumping for votes. the former house speaker was pressured to drop out from rick santorum's camp earlier this week. he expects to outlast santorum and challenges romney for the nomination. are they ready to bet the farm? the redskins set to bull off a blockbuster move. multiple sources reporting the redskins trading up to a acquire the second overall draft pick from the st. louis rams. they will use that pick to get stunt quarterback robert griffin iii. heisman trophy winner threw more than 420 yards at baylor. 37 touchdowns. only six interceptions. the move did come at a high price for the skins though. the rams will get this year's

first and second round picks from the redskins. and washington's first round picks for the next two years. that trade will be finalized on tuesday. right now d.c. police investigating two stabbings that happened overnight in northwest washington. officers got the first call about 2:15 this morning. police say the victim was stabbed in the stomach and 2400 block of 18th street in adams morgan. then about half an hour later police say a man was stand on upshur street two miles away from the first incident. police have not said if the two cases are connected. this morning the hunt for a shooting suspect in arlington who is considered armed and dangerous. the shooting happened last night around 8:00 in the 4200 block of second road north. police say one man was shot twice and is in critical condition. one neighbor who wanted to be anonymous told us it seems that there are more problems popping up in her neighborhood. >> this is a nice neighborhood. nice, quiet neighborhood. you know, here lately with the new neighbors that just moved

in, you know, you are starting to have trouble. >> police aren't sure if the suspect and victim knew one another. if you have any information contact the arlington county police department. the number is on your screen. 703-558-2222. a driver is in bad shape this morning after flipping off a d.c. highway overnight. the car flipped over the guardrail on 295 and fell about 15 to 20 feet into some brush below. police say it appears the car was speeding before it flipped and landed in the southeast. the driver was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. fire on the water along the southwest water front overnight. it started around 8:30 on board the dinner cruise boat the "odyssey" docked at the cantina marina. it started in the engine. firefighters had to use axes and saws to get to the fire. no one was on board at the time. organ man behind bars accused of sending suspicious letters to lawmakers across the

country. police arrested 39-year-old christopher lee carlson at his home in the portland vancouver area. the letters containing threats and a northern-toxic white powder arrived at the offices of several members of congress over the past month. maryland senator was one of those recipients. those letter are not connected with the ones that arrived at d.c. schools and restaurants this week. we've got some major work going on on metro this weekend. there is work on four of the system's five lines and it could keep you from getting to some popular d.c. attractions. both the woodley park and cleveland park metro stations on the red line are closed. that means you won't be able to access the national zoo by me o metro. free shuttle buses are running between the dupont circle to get you around the closures. just like last weekend, trains will also be sharing a track on the blue, orange, and yellow lines. all work should be finished by your monday morning commute. now, you will have one less hour to ride metro tonight into the morning.

to close the trail that you see behind you to make room for the purple line. >> if that should be a possibility and it will come through here. what is the biggest thing that you are are saying is that this is quite hazardous or could be hazardous and dangerous for people who come through here. we have about 11,000 people that use this trail on a daily basis from bikers to hikers, walkers, runners, everything. why would this be dangerous if this trail is moved? >> well, the tunnel was first eached about 20 years ago because a boy was struck by a car went trying to cross wisconsin con sin avenue. as people know, wisconsin is busy and congested. this trail is a lifesaver for people like that who use it every day, kids going to and from school, people commuting to work, and if we close this down, we'll have to go up and cross wisconsin avenue during the busiest parts of the day. >> we are live in bethesda from

for months if not longer. this news comes as amateur video shows explosion in the heavily bombarded city of homs. the video cannot be independently verified. activists say 30 tanks entered a neighborhood and opened fire on houses that killed 20 people. another video shows people taking part in a funeral march in damascus. the u.n. estimates syrian forces have killed more than 7500 people since the anti-government uprising began a year ago. statewide manhunt is under way in washington state for a man who heard a judge and sheriff's deputy in a courthouse shooting. police say michael thomas walked into the grays harbor courthouse and stand a deputy. a judge came to her aid but was also stabbed in the neck. the sheriff's deputy then pulled her gun but it was wrestled away by thomas and shot her in the shoulder and ran. they have been released from the hospital. there is no metal detector at the courthouse and no security was on duty at the time. president obama declared a

major disaster area in southern indiana ensuring federal aid for those who need it. several tornadoes ripped through the state last week killing at least 12 people. federal aid includes grants for home repair, temporary housing and low cost loans to mem people cover property losses. the president also declared disaster areas in kentucky which was also devastated by severe storms. you've heard stories about disruptive passengers on planes but some american airlines passengers experienced a rambling and a distraught flight attendant. >> get out of my way! >> a passenger captured this video as crew members tried to restrain the flight attendant. it was departing dallas for chicago yesterday. passengers say the flighted a tent can't got on the loud speaker and started falk talking about mechanical problems, 9/11, and american airlines financial issues. she even told passengers the plane was going to crash. the pilot turned back to the gate as passengers helped other

crew members subdue the flight attendant. >> helped restrain her. grabbed her arms. grabbed her arms. there were about four of, i guess five of us including the flight attend can'ts. >> american airlines say the flight attendant is receiving proper medical air. two crew members had to be taken to the hospital after the altercation. the plane got to chicago two hours late. >> wow that is scary stuff. boy. speaking of scary. other moments for travelers in houston too talk about as severe storms caused four planes to make emergency landings. >> because they were all struck by lightning. the faa says two of the flights had to make energy landings shortly after leaving bush enter continental airport. two others were hit while flying here airport from atlanta. luckily nobody was hurt and the faa is trying to make sure the planes are okay to return to the air. >> someone who flies a lot, i always wonder when i see those flashes of lightning, you know,

are we in danger? it can really happen? >> the long and the short answer is, no. airplanes are very, very safe. they're designed because they fly through the clouds. they have to design them are w. that in mind that they could be taking lightning strikes. but that metal shell of the aircraft carrying most of the current away from anything that would be critical. but it's a pretty loud -- it's a pretty loud bang. it's a big bang on the plane and unsettling to passengers so a lot of times pilots will turn around to be 100% safe. for us, we've got severe case of sunshine out there for your saturday morning. when does the warm-up begin? when does the warm-up begin? we'll talk about that next.

place today for the republican race. guam voted for mitt romney. romney, gingrich, and santorum are all trying to get last-minute votes before tuesday's primaries in alabama and mississippi. d.c. police are working to find those responsible behind two overnight stabbings in northwest washington. investigators say the first victim was stabbed in the stomach on 18th street around 2:15 in the morning. a second person was stabbed about half an hour later on upshur street. police have not said if the two cases are connected. aaron? it's been a while since the skins have made nfl wave but this morping the redskins are the talk of the league thanks to a blockbuster move they just made. it looks like the redskins will trade four draft picks to get the second overall pick from the st. louis rams. the skins expected to juice that pick next month to draft stud quarterback robert griffin iii. this move does come at a pretty

page or tweet us at nbcwashington p. today you can see what teacher goes through every day after normal school hours. hundreds are expected to gather at potomac mills for what's being called a grade-in. teachers will sit at the food court and grade papers or work on other projects. organizers for the events says it's a chance or people to talk to teachers about the issues they face every day. the grade-in is scheduled from 11:00 to 1:30. a shocking incident at a montgomery county school as two teachers started fighting in front of students. it happened yesterday morning at roberto clementee middle school. officials say two male teachers started arguing and then wrestling on the ground. one of the teachers ended up with marks on his face before the two were finally separated. a school spokesperson said, quote, the teachers apologized to one another and to the principal. we will still investigate and handle this appropriately. school principal barkley said

thats, quote, completely inappropriate and unacceptable and such behavior will not be tolerated. the actions of our staff members undermine the core values we must model for our children. you may not know it but apparently it's illegal to start your car remotely in maryland. state lawmaker now who wants to change that though. delegate barbara tlus says maryland law prohibits drivers from leaving a car unattended. that shouldn't include remotely starting a car. so there are -- there's been no opposition to this new proposal. you're not imagining things, folks. prices at the pump, they're going even higher. right now, according to aaa a gallon of gas in the district averages at $3.91. that's 20 cents higher than just a month ago. virginia is the cheaper in oust area at $3.66. up 19 cents in a month. maryland driver, you're paying an average of $3.74. up 20 cents.

weather. 37 by 9:00 p.m. dropping back down below the freezing mark by tomorrow morning. another chilly start tomorrow. we'll talk about all of the seven days -- 70s in the seven-day forecast coming up. >> can't wait for that. thank you, chuck. right now d.c. police are investigating two stabbings that happened overnight in northwest washington. officers got the first call around 2:15 in the morning. police say the victim was stabbed in the stomach in the 2400 block of 18th street in adams morgan. then about half hour later police say a man was stabbed on upshur street two miles away from the first incident. police have not said if the two cases are connected. this morning arlington county police warning residents to be careful. a man they consider armed and dangerous is still on the loose. that suspect is thought to be guilty of a shooting another man last night around 8:00 in the 4200 block of second road north. police say the victim was shot twice and is in critical condition. one woman who lives in the area

spoke to news 4 and says there seemed to be more problems m popping up in her neighborhood. >> this is a nice neighborhood, nice quiet neighborhood. here lately with the new neighbors that just moved in, you know, you are starting to have trouble. >> police aren't sure if the suspect and victim knew each other. if you have any information contact the arlington county police department at 703-558-2222. a driver is in bad shape this morning after flipping off the d.c. highway overnight. the car flipped over the guardrail on 295 and fell about 15 to 20 feet into some brush below. police say it appears the car was speeding before it flipped and landed on first sterling avenue in southeast d.c. the driver was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. fire on the water along the southwest water front overnight. it started around 8:30 on board the dinner cruise board "the odyssey" docked at the cantina

marina. the blaze started in the ship's engine. firefighters had to use axes and saws to get to the fire. no one was on board at the time. the state of virginia expected to begin its defense on monday in a lawsuit filed by parents of two students killed in the virginia tech mass shooting. nearly five years later the university's president says he does not believe he made a mistake that day. president charles steger said, quote, i tried my best when he took the stand yesterday and sde fended his actions against the deadliest -- during the deadliest mass shooting in modern u.s. history. also, powerful words from the mother of one of the victims describing the moment she found out her daughter was among the dead. >> up until that point i was really hoping that julie would either be there or be in a hot. i really thought that. but that worst case scenario is that she was going to be in a hospital. but when i saw her face, i knew

that wasn't the case. >> the two families that brought the civil suit are each seeking $100,000. a montgomery county committee agreed to shut down the bethesda tunnel as part of the purple line construction. because of that the capital pressing trail will cross elm street in bethesda but not everyone is happy about the move. news 4's erica gonzales joins us live with more. >> reporter: angie, montgomery county residents say it's a safety issue and so today they are petitioning in order to keep this trail open. who are we talking about here? friends of the capital crescent trail, as a matter of fact. they say that if this 1200 foot tunnel is closed, runners, cyclists, and everybody else that uses the trail will be forced above ground and will have to cross wisconsin avenue. about 11,000 people use the trail every day. why the shuffle in the first place? the transportation and environment committee wants to make sure there is room for construction if a purple line

transit link is built. president of the friends of the capital crescent trail bott says the council has long promised the trail would remain in the tunnel and now it's reneging. >> 28 -- basically a de facto 20 acre park behind this tunnel and if they put the purple line on the trail they will have to clear cut those 20 acres of trees and there's no option for 20-acre park inside the beltway. there are other options for the purple line. >> reporter: transit planners say the cost to reroute hikers and bikers and everybody else that comes through this trail, about $3.5 million. we're live in bethesda this morning. erica, news 4. >> thank you for that report. we've all hard stories about disruptive passenger on airlines but american airlines passengers had to deal with rambling and distraught flight attendant. >> get out of my way!
