one of those ways was apparently getting arrested. i guess we are not allowed to hang out at the sudanese embassy. >> i didn't know that. >> no. i didn't know that either. >> actor george clooney and his father are among those being arrested in northwest washington today and hauled off to jail. good afternoon everyone. i'm barbara harrison in for pat lawson muse. >> i'm jim handly. first at 4:00 george clooney is in washington this week using his celebrity to bring attention to what he describes as a man made crisis in sudan. he testified on capitol hill wednesday and today was arrested after protesting outside the sudanese embassy in northwest washington. tracee wilkins reports. >> reporter: hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside of the sudanese embassy this morning including actor/activist george clooney one of many arrested this morning. george clooney who just returned from a trip to sudan joined congressman tom andrews, jim mcgovern and jim moran of virginia who was arrested.

also martin luther king jr. iii was here along with hundreds of other protesters. they're demanding immediate action to stop sudan's use of food as a weapon is what they're saying. hundreds of activists are supporting this demonstration and they were here today. 500,000 people in sudan's nuba mountains and other regions risk starvation and they're accusing sudanese president omar albashir of blocking food and humanitarian aid and being responsible for this among other hate crimes. here's what george clooney had to say before his arrest. >> we're here really to ask two very simple questions. the first question is something immediate and immediately we need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world -- immediately. the second thing we are here to ask is a very simple thing is for the government in khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men, women, and

children, stop raping them and stop starving them. that's all we ask. >> reporter: again, a number of protesters were taken into custody here this morning including actor/activist george clooney and congressman jim moran. in northwest i'm tracee wilkins, news 4. >> now clooney and 18 others were charged with crossing a police line. they spent about three hours in police custody today. afterwards clooney said he didn't know the protest would end with handcuffs. he paid a $100 fine and was released. clooney said this was his first arrest. the search for a prince george's county boy taken out of school by his mother is over this afternoon. police found 9-year-old wilbur garcia in reno, nevada. his mother, sylvia, garcia, take him out of class at dodge park elementary in landover yesterday but does not have custody of her son. wilbur's father has full custody. it's not clear whether the school was aware of the custody situation, however, but the county superintendent says they

are reviewing their policies. police say the child is safe. they arrested the mother and charged her with being a fugitive from justice. a guilty verdict today for a former rutgers university student who used a web cam to spy on his gay roommate. that roommate later committed suicide by jumping off the george washington bridge. he faces prison time for a hate crime and invasion of privacy. jay gray has the latest. >> we find the defendant guilty or not guilty as to tc? >> guilty. >> darren ravi looked down at times but did not seem to react. >> reporter: guilty or not guilty? >> guilty. >> reporter: until he slowly shook his head after the verdict was announced. the former rutgers student, guilty on all 15 counts including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation after using a web cam in his dorm room to spy on his roommate's liaison with another man. >> the facts and the law and the

evidence showed that tyler was targeted because of his sexuality. >> reporter: the case sparked national attention and outrage after the victim, 18-year-old tyler clemente, jumped from the george washington bridge just days after learning ravi had captured video of him during an intimate encounter with a date then talked about it online and shared the information with other students. >> the trial was painful for us as it would be for any parent. >> after sitting in the courtroom for every day of the nearly four-week trial clemente's mom and dad said they hoped today's verdict and their son's death would send a strong and lasting message. >> when you see somebody doing something wrong, tell them that's not right. stop it. you can make the world a better place. the change you want to see in the world begins with you. >> reporter: ravi's defense team had argued the incident was a stupid, childish prank but did not rise to the level of a hate crime. but the jury sided with prosecutors in the case and now legal experts say the 20-year-old could spend at least

ten years in prison and possible deportation since he is a citizen of india in the u.s. on a green card. sentencing is set for the end of may. jay gray, nbc news. people in michigan are rebuilding today after a powerful tornado ripped through the town of dexter. more than 100 homes were damaged by yesterday's storm. the national weather service says the twister was an ef-2 with winds around 135 miles per hour. the slow moving storm was part of a system packing large hail. heavy rain and high winds. the combination also downed power lines and flooded roads to the rural town, which is near ann arbor. no injuries or deaths were reported. luckily, nothing like that is on the horizon for us but what will the weekend bring? >> how about more sunshine? we were getting used to that. >> we were getting plenty used to that, spoiled as a matter of fact. still, with this 59-degree reading for the afternoon, you know, we're still running a

couple degrees above average. average 55 degrees. but again, we've gotten so spoiled. the wind calmed, too. what we've got going on right now is moisture in the air and with a calm wind even a touch of fog. look at that shot. that's our sky cam right now. here's the story with our weather right now. we've got the cool air that was up to the north of us yesterday. you know, those temperatures in the eastern pennsylvania, new jersey were in the 50s yesterday. we of course were at 82 yesterday. that cool air with a weather front has been making its way southward cooling a lot of locations down with the exception of southern maryland down across the northern neck. we're going to start to watch that push back the other way tomorrow so we'll talk temperatures for your neighborhood coming up in just a couple minutes. the other thing out there again with the fog, the clouds, a few showers that are also with that weather front. you can see them there on radar from leesburg through d.c. off to the east around cambridge so your good night forecast, yeah. some light showers for 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 p.m. and the mercury about 54 to 57

more health problems for the comedian gallagher. he is in a dallas hospital after suffering a heart attack wednesday night. 20 minutes before he was due to go on stage. we're told he is in stable condition and will probably be able to leave the hospital tomorrow. gallagher also suffered a minor heart attack a year ago after collapsing during a performance in minnesota. the comedian is 65 years old. he is best known for smashing watermelons with a sledge hammer. >> the hunger games novel captured the imagination of millions of readers. now the characters will come to life on the big screen when the much anticipated movie version hits theaters next friday.

weather front. so much of the nation dealing with the warm air and that set the stage for the rare tornado in michigan yesterday. now classified as an ef-3 with winds over 136 miles per hour and up to 165. you know, the warm air, the moisture, the instability, all kind of having a part in that up in michigan. we're seeing a little bit of a stumble now with the cloud cover. that's going to be the thing that is going to get us over the next couple days but still, still despite the cloud cover we'll have around we're still going to be running several degrees above average as we have gone really from what, winter, the winter that really wasn't, to almost summer. >> yeah. >> so no denying this is going to be a march to remember. everywhere east of the rockies there's been nearly 1200 record high temperatures shattered just for this week alone. that's the warm air, folks. and out there right now because of the calm conditions and the moisture that's running in to the area we've got a little bit of fog. i expect to see the visibilities

throughout the area maybe drop a little bit as we go through the overnight and even early tomorrow morning. that wind northeast but very, very light. there are those showers. 59 degrees the temperature after getting up to 82 degrees yesterday. if you're looking for a little bit of a warmth, some higher temperatures down to the south, charlottesville at 73 degrees. 66 not too bad in fredericksburg. then you can see some of the cooler spots near the water. 57 around cambridge, pax river, as well as around annapolis. then up to the north and west. that's where more sunshine is. cumberland at 73. petersburg, west virginia 71 degrees. a few showers right now. bethesda to d.c. and off to the south and east around diehl some showers hanging on kettering along with sutterland but until about 9:00 p.m. the possibility of seeing some showers passing through this area so it is not going to stay with us for the entire overnight. the shower chances will return

tomorrow. light showers and sprinkles at best. nothing heavy so we won't get anything substantial out of this weekend pattern. 56 degrees by 7:00 p.m. 54 by 9:00 p.m. then 56 at 11:00 p.m. with a mostly cloudy sky still during much of the overnight. since it's 7:17 there you can see that batch of rain making its way east to northeastward. there is a little weather front and there is the cold front but it all gets bogged down around the area this weekend and the early part of next week. here is a look at your future weather. clouds around the area and dancing around the area tomorrow with some of those isolated showers and sprinkles. this is tomorrow afternoon, 4:00 there. frederick around front royal the greater chance of rain to the west and down to the south and then kind of everywhere during the overnight period or anywhere really early sunday morning some more fog, more sprinkles chances will break into a little bit of sunshine. and i do mean a little on sunday not very much. if there was any one day out of the week when i thought we could get more sunshine it would be

$4.04 according to triple-a. in maryland it's $3.85. virginia drivers pay the least at $3.74. many analysts believe gas prices across the country will top out at four bucks by memorial day. a busy weekend and beautiful weather might have you wanting to visit the district this weekend but expect some delays if you ride metro. there will be track work on four of the five lines. on the red line the shady grove station will be closed. free shuttle buses will run between shady grove and rockville. trains will also single track on the orange, blue, and green lines. all work begins at 10:00 tonight and should be done by monday morning's rush hour. trains will also start running an hour early tomorrow at 6:00 a.m. and drivers you'll see major delays in the district tomorrow. the sun trust rock 'n roll usa marathon is only -- the only marathon completely run in the district. there will be significant closures on constitution avenue, connecticut avenue northwest, anacostia drive southeast, and

starting off the day tomorrow upper 40s to low 50s. so a little cooler than where we've been but still above average. as far as the showers, there they are right around d.c. bethesda, d.c., and off into kettering. sunderland, that little heavier batch is moving northeast toward bowie. your future weather forecast tomorrow morning i think we'll get a chance to dry out. just a little bit and see the clouds break up a little bit of sunshine by the afternoon. we're back to those clouds and back to a chance of some sprinkles around the area. same thing there for sunday with cloud cover around the area. the potential for some sprinkles. so your forecast then for st. patrick's day starting things out on saturday morning, 52 degrees. probably going to need a jacket. by the time we get to the afternoon, 70 degrees for a high temperature. a few sprinkles, partly sunny. then 63 by the time we get to the evening. so where do we go from here? early part of next week still sprinkles in our forecast. 70 to 72 degrees. again, saturday, best day out of the weekend and we warm up a

little bit. maybe to 75 degrees by next week this time but next week this time we get out of that drizzly kind of sprinkly pattern and could actually have some storms around here. >> all right. veronica, thanks. is it safe to start your car remotely? who regulates the credit bureaus? and what's the difference between light brown and dark brown sugar? liz crenshaw joins us now with the answers to this week's ask liz. >> hey, barbara. nice to see you. our first question is about using a button on your key chain. a lot of folks have them to start your car. is there a problem with that? is there a safety issue people should know about? >> it's a question about basically is that okay? the national highway traffic safety administration gave us this answer. basically it says the drivers should use extreme caution when starting their cars remotely. it recommends making sure that you'll be in the car within a few seconds of turning it on and do not, do not start your car remotely inside your garage where fumes can build up and

cause carbon monoxide poisoning. a side note. it is actually illegal in the state of maryland to leave your car unattended while the engine is running so keep that in mind before starting your car remotely in the state of maryland. >> all right. our next question comes from carol via e-mail. she wants to know who regulates the credit bureaus and what should you do if you have a problem disputing an error on your credit report. >> it's a good question. the federal trade commission did help us with this answer. it says that if you find an error on your credit report you should start by reporting this error to the credit reporting bureau in writing. you should provide your name, your address, the reason why you're disputing the information and ask that the information be removed or corrected. and the federal trade commission regulates those credit bureaus and credit repair organizations so if you have problems after speaking with the credit bureau call the ftc at 1-888-ftc help. and they will help you figure out how to get their attention properly. >> okay. we have one more question this

there is a possible break in a high profile case of a missing teenager from alaska. >> but the disappearance of 18-year-old samantha konik still remains mostly a mystery. koenig was last seen in surveillance video from february with an armed man leading her away from the coffee stand where she worked. yesterday police said they arrested a construction company owner named israel keys in texas. but authorities sealed the arrest warrant saying details are too sensitive to release at this point in the investigation. a charging document accuses keys

an 8-year-old in indonesia is making headlines for the wrong reasons. the child smokes cigarettes, lots of them, two packs a day, to be exact. according to his mother the child goes into a rage if he doesn't get his nicotine fix. they keep giving him cigarettes because they're afraid he might hurt himself. for many people it's part of the morning routine. you wake up, eat breakfast, and take vitamins. are they safe? in a new hidden camera investigation, "dateline" discovered some dietary supplements may not be as safe as they sound. >> this says my hair was pretty much gone. >> my hair started to fall out. >> eventually i couldn't even stand up. >> reporter: these women say they were poisoned by what was supposed to be an all natural supplement. could what happened to them happen to you? to find out, we've started our
