tonight, parents in virginia are warned about the threat of a gun being brought to school tomorrow. and police are gearing up. new accusations of

prostitution against dominic strauss-kahn and reports of sex parties here in washington. and the coldest night in weeks, doug's going to show you what to expect for a chilly morning. >> we begin tonight with a still rising tension in the trayvon martin case and some of the most explosive language yet from that boy's family. trayvon's parents spoke this evening at a meeting. they say it's not time for an eye-to-eye, just for an eye-to-eye, rather time for justice. marches and rallies up and down the east coast tonight mark one month since that shooting. and tomorrow, trayvon's mother and father will be here in washington. now with more on that. >> reporter: jim and wendy, trayvon martin's parents will attend a hearing focusing on what role the federal government should play in hate crimes and racial profiling cases. meanwhile, folks in our areas took to the streets demanding their own cause for justice. >> we want justice.

>> it's frustrating -- >> reporter: anthony allen and hundreds of demonstrators demand the arrest of george zimmerman for killing 17-year-old trayvon martin a month ago. >> disappointed in our country, in our legal system. >> reporter: they light candles, offer condolences and pray for trayvon's parents. >> thank you for the gift of his life. we all know that it was taken away too soon. >> this family is hurt, this family is torn, and the samford police department needs to be held accountable. >> reporter: today, new questions emerge in the case. the teen was suspected from high school after a baggy containing marijuana residue was found in his book bag. >> they killed my son and now they're trying to kill his reputation. >> george zimmerman has been in hiding, hi attorney said trayvon started the fight, wrestled him knocking him to the ground, cutting his head, breaking his nose before zimmerman shot the unarmed teen. supporters believe he got out of his car and pursued trayvon. >> trayvon was simply walking

through the neighborhood when george zimmerman, an armed man attacked and killed him. >> this crowd believes trayvon was a victim of racial profiling, the department of justice, and the fbi are investigating what happened. >> i hope for justice for trayvon. >> reporter: again, trayvon's parents will be here on capitol hill, live here in northwest d.c., news 4. now to some breaking news in northern virginia where one school in prince william county is warning parents about a potentially dangerous situation tomorrow. jackie benson is live in our newsroom with this story. jackie? >> well, wendy, the threat concerns a student may bring a gun to high school tomorrow morning. parents learned about it in an automate ed robo call this evening. the threats were found on a bathroom stall. the department is investigating and there will be additional officers on patrol at the school on panther pride drive off u.s. 1 tomorrow. now, both school officials and police say there's no evidence

that the graffiti is a credible threat. parents say they are worried given the recent school shootings around the u.s. and we're told some are considering keeping their students home tomorrow. school officials released no other details on the possible threat and the matter was first reported on the inside nova website tonight. >> thanks, jackie. the search continues tonight for a man who may have tried to snatch a 14-year-old girl in loudon county this afternoon. the reported abduction attempt happened just down the street from the meadowland elementary school in the sugar run area of sterling. deputies stay the girl ran away when the man approached her near middleton lane and west meadowland lane. they searched that area, they didn't find anyone suspicious. police are hoping that this sketch will lead to the arrest of a man who assaulted a girl in fairfax. investigators say the man attacked her as she was cutting through a wooded path on her way home from wt woodson high last

monday. she did manage to get away and a surveillance camera caught the man running down the street. he may be driving a white four-door honda accord. tonight, explosive charges against dominic strauss-kahn overseas. it may open up a can of worms right here in washington. the former head of the international monetary fund is facing preliminary charges of being involved in a prostitution ring in france. he used to live in georgetown. and what happened here could soon be under the microscope. >> wendy, today a french judge handed dominic strauss-kahn preliminary charges, meaning he's under official investigation. the former international monetary fund chief is accused in a prostitution ring and there are now reports that it extended to washington. after being in custody eight hours in northern france, strauss-kahn was released under judicial supervision. he also had to pay a $135,000 bond. the 62-year-old is accused of taking part in orgies that

included hired prostitutes. and according to the dbc, most of the alleged cases happened in france, but some included sex parties right here in d.c. a lawyer said strauss-kahn admitted to taking part in orgies, but denied knowing prostitutes were involved. these new charges come just two days before the start of a civil trial in new york. last summer, strauss-kahn stepped down from his imf post when a hotel maid accused him of sexual assault. prosecutors dropped criminal charges, but the maid is seeking damages in civil court. if strauss-kahn is convicted in the alleged prostitution rink, he could face up to 20 years in prison, so far no other details of the alleged parties here in washington have come to light. jim? outside tonight, something we haven't witnessed around here in quite a while, actually chilly temperatures. doug, what's up? >> it's amazing, isn't it? we're sitting at 46 degrees and that is the coldest temperature we have seen in two weeks. so, yes, the cold air is coming

in, and take a look at it, 35 in pittsburgh right now, 32 in state college, and 39 in hagerstown. and that colder air continuing to funnel on in across the area. winds are still gusting over 20 miles per hour. and most of the entire area right now is under a freeze warning. we'll talk much more about that, what you're going to wake up to, and we'll tell you how long this cold air is going to stick around. >> thanks, doug. a full-fledge casino in prince georges county is one step closer to reality. maryland's full senate gave preliminary approval to the gaming expansion bill. that bill would legalize table games such as blackjack and roulette. and it would grant a license to build a sixth casino in the state possibly at national harbor. this paves the way for a final vote in the senate. voters ultimately would have to approve the bill and a referendum. right now, dozens of people are camped outside the supreme court. they're hoping they'll be able to witness parts of history. the second day of oral arguments over the obama administration's

health care law that starts in the morning. and today the question was whether the penalty for not buying health insurance amounts to a tax. taxes cannot be challenged until they actually take effect. and the insurance penalty doesn't kick in until 2014. most justices appear to think it is not a tax. >> this is not a revenue raising measure because it's -- if it's successful, nobody will pay the penalty. >> congress has nowhere used the word tax. what it says is penalty. >> from here, justices will debate the key challenge to health care reform, and that's whether it is constitutional for the government to force americans to buy insurance. a district woman is facing charges tonight in the shooting of a gay man outside of a columbia heights restaurant that happened two weeks ago. it was on the -- in the ihop on 14th street northwest. police labeled the shooting a hate crime. investigators say 27-year-old lashaun carson shot the man after an argument between two

groups turned physical. attacks based on sexuality will not be tolerated. >> crimes of this nature cannot and will not be tolerated in the district of columbia. because all of our residents have the right to walk our streets free of the fear they will be targeted simply because of who they are, whom they love, or the way they choose to worship. >> carson is charged with aggravated assault and the victim is recovering. a bus driver attacked today on his own bus. teenagers on the a-32 bus, the one that takes kids home from anacostia high school, threw some sort of chemical on the driver this afternoon. hazmat teams called in, the driver taken to a hospital. it's not clear what was thrown on him or why. the man is expected to be okay. the councilwoman at the center of a controversy because of her alleged speeding in prince georges county has now paid part of her fine. karen tolls was pulled over

after going more than 100 miles an hour on the beltway last month. she was originally given a $90 fine for an unsafe lane change. residents called for a stiffer penalty. she ultimately ended up with a $500 ticket. court records show she paid her $90 fine has not anted up for speeding just yet. they're going to stop reviewing facebook accounts of the potential employees. before now, applicants had to allow screeners to see their social media accounts. the department, though, is suspending that practice pending a federal review. members of congress recently requested a federal investigation into whether it's legal or even constitutional for employers to check the facebook accounts of perspective hires. former vice president dick cheney appears to be doing well tonight following his heart transplant. he got out of bed, sat in his chair in his hospital room today. he had surgery. at 71 years of age, his age puts

him at the higher end of the scale for getting a transplant. the medical experts say after he waited for 20 months, it is unlikely that he got any special treatment. >> after my election, i have more flexibility. yep. >> president obama's under fire tonight for that exchange with russian president. it happened when the two thought they were off mike. president obama asked the russian leader to pass on a message to his successor vladimir putin. mr. obama suggested the u.s. and russia could reach agreements on some disputed issues particularly the missile defense shield. but he asked for some space because this is an election year. republicans say they look forward to the president's explanation to the american people. pope benedict xvi is spending his first night in cuba on what is already called an historic three-day visit. the pontiff started his trip by holding an open air mass in

santia santiago. he met with raul castro. the two reportedly talked about religious freedom and the 50-year-old u.s. economic embargo. friends and family members of a man from potomac, maryland, who was jailed in cuba hopes the pope's visit will help bring that man home. in december, they released 29 prisoners, but alan gross was not one of them. the pope was sent to petition with 4,500 signatures asking the pontiff to put pressure on the cuban government to release gross so he can come home and see his mother who is dying of cancer. >> this is the worst thing, of course, that ever happened to us. >> i will be out here every week until we see alan on u.s. soil. >> gross was sentenced to 15 years in prison for spying. he has always maintained he was in cuba to install phones and computer equipment for that country's small jewish community. light cameras in the district may soon be issuing tickets to speeders, as well. it could happen under a plan

proposed by mayor vincent gray. that would retro fit red light cameras to also ticket drivers who speed through intersections when the light is green. the plan could generate millions of dollars in revenue. in the meantime, money is at the center of a lawsuit against speed cameras in montgomery county. the state court of appeals will hear a class action lawsuit about whether speed cameras violate state law because a contractor gets a cut of the fines. a court will hear that case in june. spring and summer flights got more expensive. and it won't matter which airline you try to find a deal on. bobby brown arrested by police in california. and we'll hear from the woman who was known as super mom just a week after

well, bobby brown is in trouble with the law again. stop the presses. police in california, san fernando valley pulled the singer over for talking on his cell phone today and officers say they had an inkling he might be intoxicated. they alleged he failed a field sobriety test and they took him to jail and charged him with dui and he made bail and this would be his second dui if he's convicted. pain at the pump translating to the skies. all the major airlines tonight are charging up to $10 more for round trip tickets. that's because of rising fuel costs they say. officials at southwest airlines say if fuel prices continue at

this current trend, the airline may have to cut back on flights. the woman who lost her legs while she was protecting her children during a tornado is finally home tonight. stephanie decker rushed her kids to the basement of their indiana home when she heard the tornado approaching and used her body to shield her kids. her legs were crushed by debris as her house fell around her. part of her legs were amputated. she spent weeks in the hospital and rehab. >> i always had a positive look on life. things are not that bad and if they are, there's always tomorrow. that's what i've been given. i've been given a tomorrow. >> and her kids were not injured in that tornado. if you're around fairfax county, you might see some partially pink deer roaming around. the pink coloring is coming from devices such as this one, designed to attract deer and coat them in a pesticide that kills ticks. they are hoping this help

that's from chopper 4. >> no. >> and wendy, you saw this earlier tonight. the moon right next to venus. spectacular shot, jupiter down to the lower side of the screen, as well. just a fantastic shot. yeah, that's the chopper shot. i didn't know we could afford a lens like that. 60 degrees out there right now. that was the high temperature today. a low of 46. that's the current temperature. and again, that's the coldest number we've seen in over two weeks. and yep, here comes the cold. it's going to get a lot colder. after today, a nice day today, 60 here, 63 in manassas, and 57 up towards frederick. not bad at all for the latter portion of march. now, temperature down to 46. look at the dew point, though. 12, a very dry atmosphere. that means we're going to cool off very, very quickly. if we can stop these winds. right now winds of 22 miles an hour, winds gusting to 31. so we do have windchill to talk about out there right now. windchills in the 30s across the area. we do have actual temperatures

in the 30s. up to the north, 37 in cumberland, 37 in hagerstown and gaithersburg, but still 46 in fredericksburg. the wind helps to keep temperatures up and does not allow them to fall. i do expect these numbers to stay about where they are. they'll go down a little bit. but by tomorrow morning, the winds will subside and the numbers will start to come down. that's why we have a freeze warning in effect for about the entire area. the exception is down towards calvert and st. marys county. but even in your area, you may see temperatures close to freezing. i do not expect a frost. it would be a freeze if we get below that 32-degree number. and i think many of you to the north and west of washington will get into the 20s with clear skies out there as long as the winds die down as i mentioned. here it is, chilly and rather breezy this evening and tomorrow morning, tomorrow still a fairly chilly day when you consider how warm we've been. you'll need the jackets throughout much of the day and the sunshine. on wednesday, partly cloudy skies within an isolated shower moving through. that's as another cold front

moves through. but just like all cold fronts, not a lot of cold air in behind it. temperatures tomorrow morning, 27 to about 36. so get those jackets ready. tomorrow afternoon, plenty of sun, much cooler, but not too bad. 53 to about 57, i think that sunshine should still make for a nice afternoon, even though it is going to be one of the coldest days we've seen in quite some time. back up to 70 on wednesday and a pair of 64s on thursday and friday, and pair of 67s on saturday and sunday, maybe a slight chance of a shower on saturday. but, you know, just like this whole winter, cold snap, in and out like that. >> love it. >> thanks. coming up in sports, a rookie going above and beyond for a drink of water down at for a[ male announcer ]wn at this was how my day began.
