reuters poll. i'm steve handelsman, news 4, capitol hill. about one in 88 children has autism. that's the latest estimate released today by the centers for disease control. the new figure says autism is about twice as common as five years ago and also found autism disorders are now nearly five times more common in boys than girls. health officials say the increase is due in large part to a larger recognition of cases. the study released today is considered the most comprehensive to date with data gathered from 14 different states including maryland. just one alcoholic drink a day can increase a woman's chances of developing breast cancer by 5%. german researchers looked at data for more than 100 studies on the link between alcohol and breast cancer. they found women with an average risk for breast cancer increased their chances for getting the disease when they had one drink daily. the risk shot up significantly when the women drank more or had a family history of the disease.
4:08 pm
the researchers say women should limit alcohol use to one drink a day and those at higher risk should drink sparingly or not at all. >> times are tough for many of the city's unemployed but a local nonprofit is making great strides and picking people up and putting them back to work. the group is known as stride d.c. >> if this is what you want to go through you'll be here a long time. >> the people gathered in this classroom are all unemployed and all looking for work. today they're practicing telling their stories and preparing for the next interview. >> okay. now we'll flip the script so those that were sharing their story -- >> reporter: the class is run by strive d.c., a nonprofit organization that gets chronically unemployed d.c. residents 16 and older ready for work by giving them a push. >> here you have people that didn't have hope, needed some push because of all the work they have to do themselves. >> reporter: most of the clients

charlie sheen is trying to make a comeback. the actor whose meltdown a year ago cost him his job on "two and a half men" is working on a new sitcom. he is also the star of some high profile commercials. sheen told "today's" matt lauer this morning that it's painful for him to see how he acted last year. >> i was going to do a documentary with all the footage i shot during the tour and the whole buildup during the meltdown. which actually could be a nice case study one day. and in looking at a lot of the stuff i kind of went, ooh.
4:15 pm
whoa. >> it bugs you to look at it? >> it was cringeable. yeah. because i didn't recognize parts of who that guy was. but i couldn't have the two and a half thing be my television legacy. i couldn't have that, you know, end on that note. so if this is going to be the swan song then it has to be a beautiful experience. so far, eight days there was more fun than eight years. >> sheen's new show "anger management" appears on the fx network beginning in june. the cast of "modern family" goes after an old fashioned pay raise. kim kardashian's ex comes up with a number that will buy his silence. >> and is she playing her cards right? lindsay lohan does something today that maybe she's done for the last time. it's time for hollywood headlines. joining us is georgia alfredas heard week days on wkys 93.9. so you think it'll be the last time? >> she has to be good for two

and a half years but the judge has lifted her probation for her dui case which has been going on since 2007, five years, because she kept getting in trouble. so at least she is off the hook for that. she still is on probation but she is on informal probation for the jewelry heist thing. she has to stay out of trouble for two and a half years and the judge gave her really good advice. she said you have to stop night clubbing and focus on her work. this is what you chose to do so have you to deal with it. lindsay lohan was like you really opened up some doors for me. hopefully she'll get to do some work but she is supposed to be in the liz taylor lifetime movie filming in canada and canada has stopped a lot of our celebrities at the border and said oh, no. so we'll have to see what happens with that. >> we'll see. wish her well. >> we know you are a big fan of will ferrell as am i. he made a big announcement on tv last night on conan. let's listen. >> announce this to everyone here in the americas, to our

4:18 pm
the comedy "modern family" has been a hit for two years so for the actors and stars of the show the price of success continues to go up. >> they're making $65,000 per episode right now up from last year. now, ed o'neill makes $105,000 per episode because he is the big star but we hear they want $200,000 per episode and they might get it. it is a huge success and if they do like the stars of "friends" did and negotiate together they could possibly get more. so if i'm them i think we negotiate together as a group to get three, four, $500,000 prep. >> does that mean little kids, too? >> absolutely. the cast -- they make $65,000 a week. are you kidding me? my gosh. i should do some acting. but i got to be a better actress first. >> this is true. >> crazy money here. speaking of dollars kim kardashian's ex has come up with a dollar amount that will help him keep his mouth shut? >> listen. the kardashians are trying to keep their secrets secret and

injured. furng to the weather which is pretty nice today but the pollen count is through the roof. >> we're suffering. >> you're not the only ones. everybody is talking about it. everybody is like what is the pollen? i've got a little bit but you guys are actually really bad sufferers. >> we are. >> we take medication. >> you don't want to see us off our meds. trust me. >> i do not. >> antihistamines doug. >> got you. i will say this. pollen is way ahead of schedule. obviously we've been so warm and it is actually four times higher today than yesterday. >> really. >> it is actually the highest it's ever been in the month of march in the last 13 years. so if you're thinking about it today if you're suffering now you know why. it does look like it is going to continue probably for at least the next couple days. we'll talk about that in a second. first off let's show you what's happening outside. we're looking at a nice day for the rest of us. if you're not a pollen sufferer not too bad. if you are however and there is a lot of us out there you'll
4:25 pm
continue to suffer right on through the weekend. right now you can see why. all the greenery everything starting to bloom, 62 degrees the current temperature right now. winds out of the northwest at 14 miles an hour. gusting to 26. that helps to get the pollen out into the atmosphere. any time you have the wind it is going to continue. winds will be lower tomorrow. 59 right now in leesburg. 59 in frederick. down toward fredericksburg. 69 and 74 in charlottesville so a big spread there. at least 10 to 15 degrees as far as the spread in temperatures goes. so not all that bad today. tonight it's going to be a little bit on the cool side. as a matter of fact, a frost advisory in effect for the panhandle of west virginia as well as frederick county, maryland. frederick county, virginia, and areas right along i-81. i don't think we'll see any problems here in washington but there could be some frost. again, not a freeze but a frost warning in the area. now took this from tom. sneezin' season. you like that? i like that. pretty good. very high today pollen.
4:26 pm
by tomorrow starts to go down a little bit. by saturday air in the medium to high range so not quite as high as it is today. but it will be a little bit lower. it will go back up, however, during the day on sunday. so, unfortunately, the next couple days you'll probably be suffering just a little bit. and no rain to talk about. especially right now with clear skies. watch what happens over the next few days. storm 4 radar all clear out there at the moment. but here comes at least a storm system that will try to give us some rain late friday night into the day on saturday. i think friday is going to remain dry even though this says a few showers. friday should be on the dry side. we'll see the bulk of the rain overnight friday night into saturday and really just some shower activity. if we can squeeze out 0.1 or 0.2 inch of rain that would be about all we can muster because this storm really takes shape just off the coast. sunday looking a little bit better as things start to clear out. this evening clear skies. a chilly evening with temperatures cooling down quickly into the upper 40s to lower 50s in many areas. tomorrow morning cold. 32 to 42 with possible frost
4:27 pm
