don't go with gps or satellite radio and you reduce your bill as much as 20 bucks a day. one of the biggest fecesly avoided is the cdw -- collision damage waiver -- the insurance on the rental you don't need the cdw. your regular car insurance generally covers you and very often your credit card will fill in the gaps. >> reporter: using your credit card also helps if you want to dispute any charges after the rental. but the newest fee some companies are charging has to do with gassing up before returning. >> if you fill up on your own on the way back you have to have a receipt from a gas station that's within ten miles of the office where you rented the car. and if not, you're going to get hit with the fee. >> reporter: be careful about returning the rental too early. there is now a fee for that. like airlines, rental car companies say they, too, are looking for new revenue streams.
