texas, 15,000 people showed up. the fact that quarterback tim tebow was the guest speaker may have had a little something to do with that. we're going to get you caught up on what he had to say. >> he does draw a crowd. and what does it take to get your family ready for the day? well savannah guthrie is spending the morning at the arkansas home of the duggars to find out just how jim bob and michelle make it work with 19 kids, and right now, as you can see, she's heading into one of the kids' bedrooms. there it looks like they're already dressed. well, one of them isn't. there she is. >> i have three kids and i mean, i feel totally inadequate when i complain about what goes on in my house in the morning. looking at that. >> i know. but they're pretty calm. >> look at that. >> yeah. >> anyway we're going to find out how it works for them and maybe it will inspire the rest of us. let's begin this morning with police now investigating that deadly shooting rampage in tulsa, oklahoma, as a hate crime. nbc's gabe gutierrez is in tulsa this morning with more on this story. gabe, good morning. >> good morning, ann. the two suspects are scheduled

to be arraigned here in tulsa later this morning. police are now investigating what are some recent facebook posts might help reveal a motive behind this deadly shooting spree. ♪ >> reporter: mixed emotions on easter sunday in tulsa. >> this is an entire community that is being attacked right now. >> reporter: grief for the shooting victims. but relief that two suspects have been arrested. after a shooting spree that left three people dead, and two others wounded on good friday. according to the police, none of them knew each other. all of them, black men. >> it sickens me, it angers me. this is not what tulsa, oklahoma is about. >> reporter: police say the suspects were roommates. 32-year-old alvin watts and 19-year-old jake englund. both are charged with multiple counts of first degree murder. >> we're going to let the evidence take us where we want to go. there are other motivations than

race, sometimes, in these kinds of incidents and we're going to look at all of it. >> reporter: including this, a facebook page appearing to belong to one of the suspects. a status update posted hours before the first shooting mentions the two-year anniversary of his father's murder. the post used a racial slur to describe the killer. another entry posted friday says, in part, if something does happen tonight, be ready for another funeral later. >> this is where we can't afford to make mistakes. it is very premature to talk about hate crimes. we have yet to analyze all the information. >> in my 23 years of law enforcement i don't think i've ever seen a crime as heinous as this. >> reporter: a crime that's still being investigated. police arrested the pair early sunday after receiving dozens of tips from the public. those led investigators to a burnt pickup that belonged to one of the suspects. that vehicle had reportedly been spotted at the crime scene. ann?

>> such a troubling story. gabe gutierrez, thank you so much this morning. >> more news ahead here. we want to check in on the day's other top stories. natalie morales is back at the news desk. >> welcome back. >> thank you, ann and david. good morning to you guys once again. good morning, everyone. we begin in north korea where this morning south korean intelligence officials say pyongyang may be preparing for a third nuclear test. this as the country gets ready for a rocket launch that has the u.s. concerned. nbc's richard engel is in pyongyang with the latest. richard, good morning. >> good morning, natalie. today, north korea began what will be two weeks of official celebrations here. it's all designed to reinforce the transition of power from the late kim jong-il to his son kim jong-un. in one of pyongyang's main squares today, a sea of people expressed joy for their great leader, and eternal president. and praise for his descendants.

one stirred their excitement was this, a giant mural unveiled today of the latest kim jong-il. and when the assembly was over, the thousands just walked away. orderly. no trash left behind. uniformed schoolchildren, families and workers, simply left. in a nearby park, accompanied by a government minder, kim wen-yong told us everyone supports the state. you think it's a good system for the people of north korea? >> they understand and they uphold the line of our path. >> this weekend journalists were taken by train to a military base to see this. north korea says it's an observation satellite it will soon launch into orbit. officials say it will circle the earth for two years. controversially, it will be blast off by a 100 foot rocket. north korea calls this the

unha-3. it is a powerful three-stage rocket, liquid fuel as far as we know, with enough lifting force to carry a 1,000 pound payload. u.s. officials worry it could easily be converted into an intercontinental ballistic missile. a rocket that could reach the continental united states. the site's director says the united states has nothing to fear. >> no. >> it cannot be used for military use. >> reporter: back on the train, nbc space analyst gave us his assessment. >> the design has weapons potential, serious weapons potential. probably already 98% of a weapon. >> reporter: if successful, north korea says the satellite will monitor the weather and track forest fires. but it could also advance this nation's long-range rocket capability. despite international condemnation, north korea says it will go ahead with its satellite launch sometime between the 12th and the 16th of this month. natalie? >> richard engel with some fascinating reporting there inside in pyongyang. thanks so much. the u.s. has handed over

authority to carry out military raids in afghan homes to afghanistan with the u.s. now only in a supporting role. the night time raids to root out insurgents are widely resented by afghans. a new study finds women who are obese during pregnancy are 67% more likely to have an autistic child. and double their risk of having children with other developmental delays. experts say more research needs to be done but it could be one of several contributing factors to autism. and bubba watson is seeing a lot of green this morning after amazing shot out of a bed of needles at augusta national, winning the masters in a sudden death playoff. watson donned the champion green jacket, took home about $1.4 million. he says he doesn't know how he did it. doesn't even remember playing the last nine holes. and that he was nervous at every shot. it's always a perfect fit. that's just amazing. 7:08 right now. send it back over to ann and david. >> custom made. >> i know. >> right after that playoff, they turn it right around.

moon now getting low in the western sky, sun rising in the eastern sky. it's clear and cool. we're down into the low 50s in washington, nearby suburbs upper 40s to near 50 degrees. later today, we will climb into the 60s, much of the area maybe even near 70, parts of northern virginia. we'll have a wind gusting to 30 miles an hour as well. some clouds come in from time to time this afternoon. >> that's your latest weather. what's wrong with this picture? i'm in washington and david's -- you're in new york. what's up with that? >> i think we crossed, al. thanks very much. it is expected to be a big week in the investigation into the shooting death of trayvon martin, a special prosecutor could present her findings to the grand jury as early as tomorrow. nbc's kerry sanders is in sanford, florida, with the very latest this morning. good morning, kerry. >> well, good morning, david. there are few public records to review in this case, and now there are none on government websites. because the special prosecutor ordered the city of sanford to take all the public records

associated with the trayvon martin case down. those marching to keep attention on the trayvon martin shooting death ask, why did the initial investigation conclude so quickly? 45 days ago, it took just seven hours and 50 minutes for sanford police, and the state attorney, to let george zimmerman go home. and within the week, the state attorney had ruled gunman george zimmerman feared for his own life, and should not be charged in the shooting death of trayvon martin. >> we expect it to be a just and fair and equal investigation. the way that all victims should be treated. and all investigations should be treated. >> reporter: several veteran florida homicide detectives interviewed by nbc news say they believe that timetable appears unusually quick. among the standards analyzed in a fatal shooting investigation, a complete autopsy report with toxicology tests. but experts consulted by nbc news say scientifically, that

full report could not have been completed in such a short period of time. >> when a man with a gun kills someone who is unarmed, certainly should take a lot more than seven hours to reach the bottom line as to whether there's a crime. >> reporter: sanford police, and the state attorney, would not comment about the timing, and anything else associated with this case. sanford's major crimes division has five detectives. two years ago, in the next door town of lake mary, that city's five-member homicide unit investigated another shooting. no charges were filed against the gunman in that case. but lake mary police called in the county sheriff's department, with its fully staffed crime lab, to assist in the investigation that lasted 16 days. in trayvon martin's death, sanford homicide detectives asked for no help at all. a special prosecutor involved in this case could present her findings to a grand jury as early as tomorrow. david?

>> kerry sanders, thank you. craig sonner and hal are george zimmerman's attorneys. nice to have you both here. mr. yurig, let me start with you. when do you expect to meet with mr. zimmerman face to face, and are you getting closer to the point where you think it would be beneficial to have him tell his story publicly? >> well, two things. number one we expect to meet with him very soon, perhaps this week. in terms of the timing for when he's going to be able to tell his story, we're constrained. we've got a special prosecutor who's still in the process of completing an investigation. the last thing we want to do is get sideways with her or do anything that would compromise her decision-making process. so we've got a little problem with that. as soon as he is either dismissed, or they decide not to charge him, or if he's eventually vindicated he'll come out. if they charge him, then you're not going to hear from him until it's over. >> what do you think they're looking at, the special prosecutor? where is the real focus of the investigation? will it be on this stand your ground law and whether that's

applicable here? >> i think that's going to be one of the main things you're looking at. was it self-defense? was the use of force lawful? and they're going back through all of the investigation. i think they're getting forensic reports, they're, you know, different articles of evidence that they're going to review, as well as statements made by the different witnesses as well as george zimmerman. >> one of the issues here is whether there was a rush to judgment. a rush to not arrest. is that going to be a factor here? why in such a short period of time did they make a decision that none of these factors being what they were would warrant additional questioning, or even apprehension? could they make a decision that quickly? >> sure. >> that he was within the bounds of stand your ground? >> if you understand the law, you understand the rush to judgment was the rush to afterwards to complain that he wasn't arrested. the florida statute actually prohibits law enforcement from making an arrest under circumstances where self-defense is claimed, and it's not absolutely clear that the use of force was unlawful. so if you claim self-defense,

and some of the forensics support that it would be improper to make a defense. we heard one of the attorneys for the family say they could arrest him and let him prove in court he's innocent. it doesn't really work that way in this country. >> what do you think we're going to learn from the actual face-to-face encounter? >> that part is probably not answered at this point. that's going to be part of the investigation. and again we're not going to go into that part. people have jumped to conclusions, wrongful conclusions i believe. i believe once the investigation comes out the country will see why the sanford police department made the decision they did at that time. >> mr. yurig does mr. zimmerman regret, feel remorse for what happened? >> he's remorseful for the unintended consequences of what happened. i believe everything he did was justified. but he is distraught over the fact that a life was taken. he recognizes, and we recognize the martin family are going through excruciating pain, and grief. we feel for them. we pray for them. we pray also for the zimmerman family who've been destroyed by this incident, as well.

93. and nbc's tom brokaw is here with his thoughts. tom, good morning. >> david, we all know that mike was a very tough, smart, and relentless interviewer. but, as a friend and as a competitor, he was equally loyal, he was mischievous, and he was great company. he put the bar very high very early at "60 minutes" and kept it there during his distinguished career. for a long time, the most feared words in america were, mike wallace is on the phone and he wants to talk to you. >> why would brian mcnamee want to detray you? that's not very nice. >> reporter: he was fearless. even with friends. >> you really didn't need that question. >> reporter: and unrelenting. >> no, i have no intention of leaving until you tell me what's on your mind. >> reporter: mike wallace did not retreat. >> difficult question. and she loved it. i think that you will agree that a good many people hated your husband.

and members of his colleagues from "60 minutes" stopped going up there because mike just didn't remember who they were. >> but you talked about the depression. and what an important impact he had on the country talking so openly about it. >> he was, you know, he was very close friends with art buchwald and the novelist bill simons who were all suffering from depression at the same time. they'd go for long walks on the beaches of martha's vineyard and they would talk about it. and then they went public. and i think that they brought it out into the open. of course it was funny because simon wrote a book about it and buchwald and wallace complained we all had depression, you made money on it. >> i loved the way morley safer put it that mike wallace took to heart that old adage that you comfort, be uplifted and you afflict the comfortable. >> wherever he was he'd walk into a dinner party or any setting and he'd be right on your case. what's going on, brokaw? >> thank you so much. we are back in just a moment. this is "today" on nbc.

school teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage boy. nbc's jeff rossen spoke exclusively to one of her fellow cheerleaders. jeff, good morning. >> hey, david, good morning to you. look, we've heard a lot about sarah jones lately. most of it bad. all of it from prosecutors here in kentucky who say that she committed a sex crime. sexually abusing a teenage boy, and they say they have the evidence to prove it. now, sarah has remained silent. she hasn't talked. neither have her friends. until now. this morning, new details from one of sarah's closest friends. and a fellow bengals cheerleader, opening up for the first time in an emotional interview. >> first stop new jersey. >> reporter: it is sarah jones like we've never seen her before. behind the scenes. >> i want to thank you for our family here to support us. >> reporter: with the other bengals cheerleaders. >> take care of us, and take care of us as we perform, take care of our families. >> reporter: on a recent team trip, sarah is playful.

and giving. flying to iraq last year to see the troops. apparently they liked her. but prosecutors say this is the same woman, the same bengals cheerleader, who got into a sexual relationship with a teenage boy. one of her own students, when she was a high school english teacher. now charged with first degree sexual abuse -- >> i'm cheryl jones. >> reporter: her mother charged with covering it up, both pled not guilty. >> we're family. she's kind of like a baby sister to me. >> reporter: lindsay vaughn has been close to sarah for cheer years, both on the field cheerleading together, and off, where the bonds grew even stronger. people see the skimpy cheerleading outfit, they hear the sex crime allegations against her and people jump to conclusions. >> yeah. >> about who she is. >> yes. well, that's -- that's the world that we live in. >> what don't we know about sarah jones? >> smart. christian girl. she doesn't drink.

doesn't party. probably totally opposite of what you think of when you think of an nfl, glamorous, hot cheerleader. >> especially the one we've seen in the news. >> yes, very much so. very down-to-earth. very much so. loves her students. loves teaching. loves the bengals. just a good girl. >> when you see these headlines, first degree sexual abuse, seducing a child with e-mails, prosecutors say they have evidence, e-mails, phones, texts. what goes through your mind? >> our team was like a family. and we support each other. we don't know -- i don't know anything about that. i don't want to know. i don't need to know. i know her. and it's terribly shocking. being a bengal is not just about the cheerleading outfit. i know you may see that and that's something that you're going to hang onto in the news because it makes good headlines. but she's a real person. i mean, we're real people.

we have families. we have careers. we represent ourselves in this community. >> lindsay is nine months pregnant, no longer cheerleading, but wanted to come forward to support her. sarah's been battling rumors about her sex life for years. back in 2009, someone posted nasty communities on this website, thedirty.com. sarah sued the site and defended herself on local radio. >> posted that i had had two stds given to me by a cheating boyfriend. and that i had sex with him in the classroom at my school. clearly, obviously, knowing myself that it was false information, i was devastated. >> it spiraled out of control very, very quickly. and i think that's where her whole life has basically been turned around and changed. >> reporter: today, it's not just her reputation at stake, it's her freedom. if convicted sarah faces up to ten years in prison. >> i mean, she's 26 years old. and i can't imagine as a

talk es thetdics. patients often don't understand the bigger they make their breasts, the bigger they make their lips, think start to distort their bodies and things look obviously done. and it's really unfortunate when the bad case doctor and the bad case patient find one another. >> reporter: even with some unflattering after photos, the industry still going strong. according to the american society of plastic surgeons, doctors perform nearly 14 million procedures in the u.s. in 2011. ann? >> all right. tamron hall, thank you. dr. michael jones has worked with a wide variety of celebrity patients at his new york practice lexington plastic surgeries. good morning. >> good morning. >> our lips thin as we age. what specifically do plastic surgeons do to make them larger? >> as we age we do lose a lot of volume within the substance of our lips. so there are countless injectable fillers, some which are transient and may only last for 3 to 12 months and some that are permanent, such as silicone or fat or even some implantable materials. >> is it -- is the problem here

that some plastic surgeons lack artistic ability? or is there a fundamental problem with not being able to control what these fillers actually will do to your lips? >> well, i don't think that it's -- i think fundamentally we want to look better as a whole. and there are doctors that perhaps are doing a little bit too much. they're doing a little excess in the amount of injections -- >> is that in confidence? is that just simply it's not knowing how to do it? >> it's not incompetent. it just may be that -- the reality is celebrities are under a lot of pressure to look good in front of the camera. we have paparazzi which are constantly taking photographs. fans are looking at them. the camera in high definition is looking at them. so they're under a lot of pressure to constantly have a very good, aesthetic look. and so when we are in doing these injections, we want to give them a natural appearance. not an unnatural one. and so many of these doctors or many of the patients are seeking out this look which is sort of unnatural in the appearance.

>> if beautiful women who have access to a lot of -- of the most expensive doctors, and plastic surgeries, can have these kinds of results, and problems result that they're not happy with, then what does it say about the opportunity for the rest of us? >> the reality is we're focusing on a very -- a small subset. for every one person that has a bad outcome with these cosmetic enhancements, there's 100 or 1,000 that have had a great outcome. and so i'm most proud of my patient, my celebrity patient who may be walking down the red carpet at an event and you as the media have no idea that anything has ever been done to them because that's a good, natural, aesthetic result. >> it's good to hear that that's possible. and we will not out them. thank you so much, dr. michael jones, you'llen pleased to know we're not going to name who your patients are. coming up next, the world's smallest puppy with legions of fans already. meet beyonce. we'll find out more about her right after this. ♪

way. whoo! >> okay. we're going to make breakfast we're going to need ingredients. i'm not standing in a grocery store aisle right now. actually this is the duggar pantry. when you think about what they have to buy. they go through five dozen eggs every month. 48 boxes of cereal. $3,000 a month, michelle, at the grocery store? >> yeah, easily. >> and ow hoffen do you end up going? >> once a week, usually, to pick up odds and ends, and then once a month for a big trip. >> you're going to do a big breakfast like we're about to do this morning. we've been working at it a couple hours. >> definitely. and sometimes we start the night before. so it just -- amazingly, we have to have a garage as a pantry so we can unload all the groceries at one time. >> and then here we are in your kitchen which looks like a big restaurant kitchen. and we have jim bob. >> good morning. >> good morning to you. now jill's been the helper here making a famous duggar family recipe this morning. what is that? >> she's a good cook. >> it's breakfast casserole.

>> okay. and so you must be pretty organized. i see labels on all the shelves. i mean, it's pretty impressive. were you organized like this always -- >> i used to work at a grocery store. and so when we built the house i wanted a, like a pantry that we could load stuff in directly from the vehicle. so it worked out great. >> yeah. a lot of people imagine that you're just in this process of doing laundry at all times. is that basically it? >> usually it is. that and dishes. between laundry and dishes it's a nonstop process. but i think everybody can identify with that. >> but everybody has a job. jill this morning has been definitely working hard. haven't you? >> yes, ma'am. >> so you said even the little ones have a job. >> they all work together on a team. and we've got buddy teams. so the little guys are getting to learn from the older ones, and we all work together. it takes everybody helping. >> okay we've got 19 hungry mouths to feed. let's go with the casserole out here and step on out. and here we go, they're all lined up, and hungry, and

actually not throwing food at this point. >> yes. >> even though i know they've been waiting a long time. should we just grab our plate around here. >> is this a special occasion because we decided to come here or do you have this kind of big old breakfast every day? >> when we have people coming over to visit -- >> we figured we better do it right today. >> you plan the meals? >> oh, definitely, yes. we always do. we have to have a menu and we have to shop accordingly. >> how many of the kids can actually help with the cooking? >> everyone, really except for the babies. so the boys, the little boys like to make bacon. >> you want a biscuit buddy? okay, i -- he's got that pretty good. okay. let's do that. all right. so, just tell me about a typical day at the duggar household. >> well, we start out usually in the morning with bible time, breakfast, and then we quick clean and then we start our school. >> you've got nine kids -- this is a big house but it's a four bedroom house, right? >> yes.

>> you've got nine girls in one room. nine boys in the other room. >> exactly. and we have it divided up so that everybody can get everything done that needs to be done so that's why we call it jurisdiction. and a lot of times they'll work together on teams so that they can get it all done. >> wait i missed some gravy. >> yes, yes. >> you do the gravy, too? >> yes. >> okay. >> the best. >> so what about the dishes? whose job is it to do the dishes? >> well, typically the boys do the dishes, and so like we have teams. >> yeah. >> and jedidiah is like the leader of a team and jeremiah is the leader of another team. >> okay. do you get any help? >> you know what, grandma duggar is awesome. she is amazing so yes, if it weren't for her she wouldn't be able to keep up. >> okay, well let's sit down. hey, guys. i bet you're hungry. all right. so, what's the worst job, guys, to have to do? because i know everybody's got one.

mariska has her own biological son and two adoptive kids. the first child that she was supposed to adopt, she went to the hospital, bonded with the child for two days only to have the mother say, you know what, i'm not going to give the baby up. she calls the experience devastating. but this speaks to her character. she's still in touch with the mother. and of course went on to adopt two other children. >> and talks about some of the difficult choices that you face, and just how difficult the process can be. >> the process she says is not for the faint of heart. she says that you have to really want this. she has her daughter amaya who is 14 months, a son and drew who is 10 months. she said you've got to get a fantastic lawyer and you have to really want this and stick it out. >> another couple, michelle williams is also in the newsstands in "us weekly" where they're talking about her attitude about overcoming tragedy, and kind of a new approach to her life. >> yeah, of course, she was engaged to heath ledger, who died of accidental drug overdose and now she's found love again with jason siegel, the funny guy from "how i met your mother."

today's american story with bob dotson is a tale of love, ties to san francisco's golden gate bridge. we'll be talking about for a long time because bob is here to share it with us. bob, good morning. >> good morning, ann. people fall in love for lots of different reasons but few as romantic as this. it starts with a 25 cent bet. san francisco's golden gate bridge was so loved when it opened in 1937 a lot of people scribbled their names and addresses on its towers. a friend bet bill hues he couldn't pick one at random, write a letter and get a reply. bill almost lost that bet. >> well, i thought pen pal, boring. >> reporter: but patricia lucas wrote him back. >> because he wanted that quarter. >> reporter: a lot of people gambled on the golden gate. a bridge critics said could not be built. divers had to anchor it in a

rage of whirlpools and riptides. workers had to stack towers taller than four statues of liberty. fog made the iron slick as ice. no one had ever done anything like this before. but the golden gate bridge was completed in just four years. on time. and on budget. people who lived around san francisco bet big on the business the bridge would bring. at the start of the great depression they mortgaged their homes to get a private loan for one of the largest public works projects ever built. it linked the poverty around them to the world of hope. >> people risked their -- their homes, their properties, their ranches. >> reporter: for their families, futures. >> what do you see? >> reporter: lisa grew up four miles from the golden gate. graduating college on money she made moving lane markers on the bridge. today, she is the first woman in

getting up this early with us this morning was a little -- >> ah, a lot different than what we're used to. yes. we're not on the early morning schedule. >> a lot of people wonder, because you homeschool all these kids, how -- how do you do that? how do you keep all these kids, when do you have time? >> anywhere from three to six hours a day depending on the children, and now, we do it on the computer which makes it wonderful. because the computer scores and grades it all which makes my job a lot easier. >> i see some of the big kids. you going to go bounce johannah? the big kids help with the little kids. >> they love it. the little guys absolutely love the bigger ones. they're just like mentors and they look up to them and the little guys think they're the greatest. >> well, i think people who wondered how do you entertain 19 kids we've got part of that answer. we have the trampoline. the music. there's a play room in there with a slide. >> all kinds of things. >> basketball. we do school.

let's go inside and get a check of the top stories from natalie. save us. >> okay, i will. thanks, ann. good morning once again, everyone. two roommates appear in court today on multiple murder charges in last week's shooting rampage outside tulsa, oklahoma, that left three people dead and two others wounded. all of the victims were black. police are investigating whether the shootings were racially motivated. after one suspect posted online that he was angry about his father's killing by a black man two years ago. tributes are pouring in for mike wallace who passed away saturday in connecticut at the age of 93. former first lady nancy reagan called wallace a dear friend and fox news chief roger ailes said wallace served the audience and never took a cheap shot. 60 minutes plans a full tribute to wallace next sunday. jury selection begins today at the chicago trial of the man acased of murdering the family of singer and oscar winning actress jennifer hudson. hudson's mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew were killed in 2008. the star is expected to be in

court once testimony begins and could be called as a witness. a new study finds women who are obese during pregnancy are 67% more likely to have an autistic child. and double their risks of having children with other developmental delays. experts say more research needs to be done, but it could be one of several contributing factors to autism. the thriller "hunger games" ate up much of the competition at the weekend box office once again, taking in an estimated $33.5 million. keeping it at the top now for a third week. shop smart magazine sent out secret shoppers to find the best deals. lisa is the editor and she's here with the results. secret shoppers scouting for personal care products and the prices. what did they find? they went to all kinds of stores. >> we had them look at everything from shampoo to deodorant to mouthwash and they checked all kinds of stores, walmart and target, drugstores, supermarkets, we even had them check online at drugstore.com, amazon.com and harmondiscount.com. >> and what did they find when it came to best pricing overall? >> you could easily save 25% to 50% or more depending on where you shop. the store with the best prices was walmart. by a long shot. >> hmm. >> target and harmondiscount.com actually did pretty well, as well. they were the runners up. the drugstores were the most expensive. >> oh, interesting. and when it comes to convenience, and i think a lot of people are shopping for these things on the fly, so they're maybe not planning where they're going to go, are there other ways that you can save, as well? >> well, actually, the supermarkets are not a terrible

place. they don't have the highest prices, they don't have the lowest prices, so if you're kind of in a rush -- >> might as well buy your deodorant at the same time. >> if you're dropping in at the convenience store or the drugstore, if you have your loyalty card, you get a good sale, you bring your coupons, you combine all those things, you can actually get a really good deal at a drugstore, if you shop smart. so you just have to be prepared. >> so loyalty cards are key. >> yes. >> you're going to save money using that. you also say to stock up during sales. now how is this helping you save money if you're buying a lot of product at the same time? >> well, you know, a lot of the times people wait until they're out of their toothpaste or wait until they're out of their hair dye and pick it up when they need it. that's the worst time to buy it. when it goes on sale, stock up. and if you're not brand loyal, and you see an amazing deal, that's another great way to save. and these things, they last a year or two years or more. >> right. >> so it's a great thing to stock up on. >> hopefully have a lot of room at home that you can store everything away. because that can be a problem. that is the key. next thing you say coupons, you

say max out coupons not just the store coupons, as well, but go online, as well. >> websites like coupons.com, go to manufacturer websites of things that you buy frequently. and then combine all those coupons. that's called stacking. and if you can use multiple coupons on an item you can get it practically for free. >> i've seen people walk out of drugstores paying nothing. >> drugstores, supermarkets. >> you also say try store brands. if you're not brand loyal. >> we've been testing store brands versus big brands for years and years. and with toiletries we found they can be just as good or better than the big brands. we tested sunscreens, and we found that cvs, walgreens and target store brands were just as good as the big brands and walmart's equate brand, which is their star brand's body lotion was one of the best body lotions we tested. >> that's great to know. you also say price match. how does that work? >> target and walmart actually will price match. which means if you see a lower advertised price somewhere, a really great price, bring the

or even air conditioning may lead to problems. dr. roshini raj is a "today" contributor. >> good morning, tamron. >> a lot of people talk about their eyes this time of the year. mostly allergies but there are a longer list of other issues. >> they are. our eyes are so important but we really take them for granted. we didn't notice them until something goes wrong. we came up with a big roundup of the most common problems. >> one of the most common, itchy eyes. i mention allergies because i suffer from them severely. >> particularly this year has been a bad allergy season and we often see it in the eyes. so this itchy, watery eyes can be a sign of histamine release. that's the chemical that's at play during allergy season and what can you do about it? you can try over-the-counter antihistamine drops for your eyes. you can try steroid drops. but the other key is to avoid the trigger. when you're in your house, keep your windows closed. when you're in the car, keep the car windows up and closed and you want to wash your hair when you come in from a day outside.

because otherwise you're sleeping with that pollen in your hair, which will then get, you know, eye exposure as well. >> all right, burning eyes. you say this could be dry eye syndrome. what is that? >> well, many people suffer from dry eyes. meaning they don't produce enough tears to keep their eyes well lube rickated. that can lead to a burning sensation, gritty feeling in your eye. this can happen if you're in a surrounding with a lot of air conditioning, too much heat. if you're a contact lens wearer. if you smoke for example. if you're staring at the computer screen too long without blinking all this could lead to dry eyes. >> what do you do? >> well, the main solution number one is artificial tears. you can buy over-the-counter tears and they can either be the very thin ones or a thick more gel-like substance. talk to your doctor about prescription strength if you need it. and try to keep the air around you humid, a humidifier. if you're at work you want to take a break from staring at the screen every ten minutes. bat your eyelashes. it's not flirting with anyone. lubricating your eyes. >> pink and puffy eyes.

>> is a sign of inflammation of your eyelid. and it can be caused by oil or some dirt getting clogged in the oil ducts right around where the eyelashes come out. sometimes wearing too much makeup or not taking eye makeup off at night can lead to this. this will go away on its own if you find some warm compresses two or three times a day, keeping the area clean. avoiding the inside of the eye eyeliner is usually a good idea. but hygiene is the key here. >> and people seeing spots. what would cause that? and is that something serious? >> well, it can be. but often it's not. we call them floaters, those little spots that kind of float in and out of your vision. occasionally this is normal. basically the gel-like substance of our eyes, call your vitreous humor as it tends to shink you can get slumping of cells. they cast a shadow on your retina, this is what you're seeing. however if you get frequent floaters or it's associated with any flashing lights or loss of vision that could be a sign of retinal tear or detachment that needs to be treated immediately. you need to take it seriously if it happens often or with any of

>> great. let's get to some legitimate jobs out there. you said some great things, good ideas for mom perhaps if you're good at scheduling or organizing. you can start your own service as a personal assistant. >> yeah. you can do this either virtually or physically. there's one big site out there called taskrabbit.com, where task rabbits are anywhere from $40 to $50 a day essentially running tasks for everyday people who are too busy to do their own tasks. whether it's picking up groceries for someone else or dry cleaning or doing some data entry online or research online, there is a bit of a qualification process, you have to go through some exams, but usually it takes about a week and 70% of applicants get qualified. >> okay. next you say try online tutoring. now this is for those who have a specialty or educated in something. >> right. you need at least a college degree in some cases. tutor.com is a popular website for a lot of moms and dads going on there to find extra work. there again, is a bit of a qualification process. you don't need a teaching license but you do need about a

college degree. there's a couple of exams you have to take, a background check. but you can earn from $10 to $14 an hour and math and science tutors earn the most. >> that's great. now if you have some extra space in your backyard, pet sitting or boarding. >> i love this. because also it's a way to involve your kids especially. i interviewed a mom in phoenix who's doing this and she's got teenage sons. it's a way for them to earn some money, too. the money that she earns from pet boarding she gives a little bit to her sons who also walk the dogs, feed the dogs. she uses a site called sleepoverrover.com which is a local phoenix site that connects pet borders and owners. check the local vet's office or the local pet store to set up ads. >> some great ideas all around. i know you have a lot more ideas so farnage torabi. >> you're welcome. >> coming up next, easy home cooking recipes that you can whip up in 30 minutes.

this morning on "today's kitchen," what's on the menu? slow cooker chipotle beef tacos with cabbage radish slaw. >> sounds delicious. the recipe is from the new book "real simple easy, delicious home cooking." ally is the real simple food director. this cookbook is arranged in seasons but also focuses on weeknight meals. >> it focuses on weeknight meals. we're always thinking about how do people really cook? what are the problems they have getting dinner on the table and how can we help them? the slow cooker, as you know, has really been coming back. >> yeah. >> and for a really good reason. it's incredibly easy to cook dinner. >> you get started on our beef tacos. >> and this takes five minutes in the morning before you go to work. you don't have to cook anything. you just dump. you dump and chook. >> it's just chopped. >> exactly. this is beef chuck and you just cut it into pieces. >> there's no key to the kind of meat you use in this? >> my philosophy with slow

cooking is the fattier the better. but fatty also means cheaper, so beef chuck is really cheap, inexpensive cut of meat. so that's some beef in there. and we have some onions and garlic and bay leafs. >> okay. >> and this isn't too bad to put together in the morning. >> no. >> this is a nice size, you could feet the entire family. >> yes. >> this is a giant professional slow cooker. >> exactly. >> and then this is what gives the flavor. this is chipotle chilies which you buy in a can. they're smoky. they give a lot of heat and color and smokiness to this. >> salt? >> and oregano. >> perfect. >> no other base to it, no other liquid? >> the slow cooker is magical. liquid just appears. >> it's the fatty beef. >> yes. it really isn't liquid. but, yes. >> but it's good fat. >> exactly. >> so you cook that for four hours on high or eight hours on low. >> you work all day and you come home and it smells amazing. >> exactly. and you strain the liquid. and then you just shred up the pieces of beef.

i'm holding in my hand the world's smallest puppy. this little dog is only 1 month old and she's already made a name for herself as the world's smallest puppy. she weighed just 1 ounce! when she was born. she could fit into a take spoon.

>> that's beyonce and this is jay-z, her lover. >> this is beth dicaprio, also responsible for saving beyonce's live, also naming her. executive director of the foundation that rescues animals in california. >> actually, mom came from a shelter in san bernardino, california and she was slated for euthanasia like so many moms are. they just can't hold on to them. so she was brought down to our facility and she was very pregnant. we were afraid that actually it was too big of a dad so we knew -- we found out that there were four viable and one still born. but when she was born she moved and -- oh. >> there's nothing in it. >> but she -- our large animal vet, dr. russell, was there and he gave her heart compressions.

>> how. >> he just did right on her chest and i think they just showed a video of after we got her breathing just her first gasps. >> i can imagine everyone seeing this -- the video of these adorable dogs, beyonce and the rest, and wanting to adopt. i bet you've had a bunch of people who want them. tell us about that. >> we have had so many wonderful people. we're so grateful for the outpouring of love and support. i think what's happened for us is that we're one of many rescues around the country trying to save dogs and cats that would otherwise be euthanized. we also save horses. but what she's been able to do is to bring awareness, how important it is that we spay and neuter, how important it is that we are not going out and buying dogs from breeders when there are 3.5 million dogs and cats being euthanized each year in our shelters. so we're so grateful that our little miracle baby is able to do that. so grateful to be able to be on your show. >> they're not making room for her! >> she's very tough. >> watch jay-z get some eats.
