5:04 pm
and then the rescuers themselves had to be rescued. it just goes to show you the problems the wind can cause even on a relatively tranquil body of water like the tidal basin. before it got too windy today paddle boats were out plying the waters of the tidal basin with high winds actually pushing two of those boats up against a bridge support. four people had to be rescued by employees of the boat vendor. but when the vendors went back in their powered boat to retrieve the paddle boats they ended up in the water and had to be rescued by members of the harbor patrol. the good news is that only one of those employees was slightly injured and taken to the hospital for observation. >> now we talked to the park service today and there are no set rules about when and -- when they want the boats out and when they don't. however when you have white caps like today the rule is they'll pull the boats in and now we see why. on the tidal basin, derrick ward, news 4. >> thank you. the high wind combined with the dry conditions prompted a red flag warning across our region. this is the aftermath of a brush fire in rivera beach in anne
