one seventh grader incredible reaction after his bus driver passes out with the bus going full-speed. >> new plans for the national mall that includes restaurants, bathrooms and amphitheater underground. >> ten days after learning a winning mega millions ticket was sold in the state, the mystery is over. at least sort of. shomari stone chatter. >> reporter: good evening. tomorrow officials will hold a news conference. we will finally find out some information about who won mega millions. i tell you this story has the had more twists and turns than a roller coaster at an amusement park. last week, this woman, she works at mcdonald's took the nation on a ride claiming she had the winning ticket. couple days later she reportedly said she hid the ticket in mcdonald's. then told me giggling she lost it. well tonight i asked her if she found the lost ticket. she said i can't tell you.

well one thing is clear, this jackpot was the largest in mega millions history. each of the three winners will receive more than $218 million before taxes. now, lottery officials told me this winner wants to remain anonymous. i asked officials if merland is the winner, they would not tell me. keep in mind that maryland does not require win tires reveal who they are. in baltimore, maryland, i'm shomari stone, news 4. >> fire danger up and down the east coast after a stretch of dry and windy weather out there. the wind pushed the forest fire in southern new jersey. dozens of homes threatened there. similar fires have popped up from richmond to connecticut. they're affecting amtrak service in the northeast. what they call a red flag warning continues for a large swath of the eastern seaboard. gusty wind led to a brushfire at rivera beach in anne arundel county in maryland this afternoon. and in brushfire spread to a

building, in northeast d.c. this morning. a few showers out there now, who knows what is to come. doug knows. >> that's my job out there. as far as we are concerned, we have rain coming through right now. some showers around the woodbridge area, prince william county, warrenton we'll tcontine to see those moving quickly. this is not any relief from this very dry weather. we need to see upwards of a couple inches of rain. the last time we saw a storm with over a half inch of rain was back in february. take a look now at manassas, west of woodbridge, there is rain coming down right now. once again most is on the light side. something else is coming in with the showers. i'll show you what you can expect the next couple days coming up. >> thank you, doug. a police officer shot and killed a man in landover. on sheriff road, after 7:00. according to police the officer approached three men acting suspiciously. one of the men got into an altercation with the officer. when the officer used a taser on

him, police say the man pulled the prongs out and went for the officer's done. the victim has not been identified. >> people in and around clinton, maryland, tonight are really upset after a 6-year-old child accidentally shot and killed himself. jackie benson reports now that child found a loaded gun in a backpack in his house. >> reporter: prince george's county police detectives are investigating what they believe was an avoidable death. officers were called to the 6,000 block of arbutis lane in clinton, 2. 30. p.m. for a report that a 6-year-old boy had accidentally shot himself. police say he found the loaded gun in the backpack of a 20-year-old man who lives in the home, but who is not related to the child and was not home at the time. >> this didn't need to happen. seems like it happens every year. some where around, and within the washington metropolitan area. it just does not need to happen. >> detectives learned the boy in the first grade was in the house with his great grandmother and

his two sisters ages 9 and 11 at the time of the shooting. neighbors say the family is well-liked and well-respected and they are horrified to see them visited by such a tragedy. >> you wouldn't know any nicer person. they used to cut grass around here for the neighborhood. her and her daughter. you know? >> the man who owns the backpack has been questioned by prince george's county police detech tich -- detectives. charges will come after the case is reviewed. jackie benson, news 4. >> a woman hopes graphic images of her husband's injury will serve as a warning. a mattress and bed frame flew off a truck and hit 51-year-old igor stacho as he walked on a sidewalk. he and his family were there on spring break. he now has multiple skull injuries. his wife says the truck never stopped. >> it's horrible. you've don't know what to do.

you want to hug them and be with them. people have to realize they have to secure their things on a truck. >> sheriff deputies are trying to figure out who was driving the truck. it's not clear how long the man will be in the hospital. >> warning from the pilot about turbulence to come may have prevented injuries at all during a rough landing at national airport today. it was united flight 1115 from houston. it blew two rear tires when it landed. planes are being blown around on final approach late this morning. passengers told new 4 they were warned about turbulence as they fastened their seatbelts for landing. >> we were leaning actually to one side. and then, i was sitting by a window, on the plane, and i saw smoke. so i knew -- a tire had blown and then the pilot announced that -- a tire had blown. >> no one on board the plane was injured. the plane was towed and they changed the tires. >> dozens of families are getting help from the federal

government after a plane crashed into their apartment homes. the navy started giving out emergency relief checks. payments for individual residence started at $2,300. families are getting more. close to 50 apartments were destroyed when the fighter jet crashed friday. it started a big fifrmere. vision for transformation of the national mall is becoming clearer now. we can seep how architects are hoping to make the mall the crown jewel of washington. wendy? >> reporter: america's front yard. looking like the yard of an abandoned house. only thing missing was the chevy on cinder blocks. a big renovation, a competition among architects to create new designs, three areas, near the capitol, washington monument and constitution gardens. some of the plans are grand. a proposal for constitution gardens calls for turning it into a museum without walls. for the washington monument, they would peel up the landscape around it, to reveal an

underground theater, and other amenitie amenities. proposals are on display at the national museum of american history. and the smithsonian castle. they will be there through sunday. and you are encouraged to view it and weigh in. they are available on line, nationalmall.org. the trust for the mall will announce winning designs may 3. work will begin in two years and be completed by 2016, coinciding with the mall's centennial anniversary. back to you. >> wendy, thanks. maryland lawmakers are going down to the wire tonight. they reached an agreement on a package of budget measures in the final hours of the legislative session. we are waiting to hear about the fate of a gambling expansion bill and would allow table games and bring a casino to prince george's county. if it passes before midnight, voters will have to approve it una referendum. the death of trayvon martin, the teenager killed in florida, will not be investigated by a grand jury. today, a special prosecutor

decided that her office alone would decide whether george zimmerman will face charges in that shooting. it happened back in february. zimmerman says he shot martin, unarmed, in self-defense. he has not been arrested. the case has prompted a number of demonstrations including another one today. there is also increasing debate about ethical questions raised by that case. the head of the naacp met with law students at american university today. they plan to reach out to the u.s. attorney general. in the meantime, nbc news confirms, george zimmerman set up a website called therealgeorgezi therealgeorgej therealgeor therealgeorgezimmerman.com.

a maryland senator is calling for answers in the trayvon martin investigation. he spoke at a prayer vigil at st. john baptist church in columbia, maryland. cardin, encouraged residents to keep the case in the public eye and spoke about the need to change laws and end racial profiling. the vigil was organized by naacp youth council and african-american coalition of howard county. >> two white men arrested in a rampage that terrorized the black community apparently have confessed. in documents, jake england and alvin watts admit to shooting three and wounding two. all were african-american victims. there is some new research available tonight that find a mother's weight during pregnancy may have an impact on their child's chance of developing autism. a study of 1,000 women found

in the past, they're considering whether to prosecute the owners for negligence. >> to really remarkable video out of washington state. a bus on the way to a middle school today when the driver, you can see him right there, falls unconscious suddenly. then watch as a 13-year-old immediately sees what is going on, jumps up, starts steering the bus. after steering the bus to the side of the road, the boy pulled the keys out of the ignition and started doing chest compressions on the driver. other children were in the, on the bus calling 911 from their cell phones. 7th grader. the driver remains hospitalized but is a life tonight. young girl in our area acted well beyond her age when she had to call 911 to save her baby nephew. tonight fairfax county recognized 10-year-old cynthia amanderez for her bravery and smarts. angie goff with more on the story. angie? >> reporter: the 911 call dialed

by this 10-year-old, cynthia, that saved her 2-year-old nephew's life. >> i was like a little bit scared. but i know i had to stay calm so i controlled it. >> reporter: back in july when cynthia kept her cool and translated cpr directions in spanish to her mom. they got the baby breathing, before help arrived. >> 911 dispatcher cheryl dean was the voice. >> you don't get a lot of children that are able to handle calls and be that exceptional when they call. >> reporter: her bravery earned cynthia big recognition. with her nephew the fifth grader was honored with an award, the first for the fairfax county department of safety communications. winds gusting to 25 miles an hour. take a look at the current wind gusts. hagerstown, 31. near fredericksburg, 28 miles an hour. pax river, same deal, 30 mile an hour wind gusts at this hour. we are starting to calm down to the west. that will be the general trend overnight tonight. once the winds calm down, the temperatures are going to go way down. 43 degrees. in cumberland, maryland. 45, winchester. 50 in leesburg. there is the 56 degree number. 57, fredericksburg. colder air on the doorstep. there is freeze warnings to the west, in through parts of west virginia and western portions of virginia. here is what is going on with the clouds and few showers coming through. even a couple heavier showers. show you this. again we do need to see the rain out there. we have been so dry, normally up to this point in the year. we need about 10 inches of rain. the average. close to 10 inches. so far this year, about 4 inches below that. 4.69 inches in 2012. like i said, just not a lot of ran out there. a few showers right now.
