trayvon martin case, prosecutors have released a probable cause affidavit, it says that george zimmerman pro filed the black teenager and began running after him that night. he then shot martin in the chest after a struggle. the affidavit also states that zimmerman did not use a racial slur on the 911 tape. jay gray has more on this first day in court. >> reporter: george zimmerman spent less than three minutes in the courtroom dressed in a gray inmate jump suit, flanked by a deputy and his attorney. he showed no emotion and spoke only twice. >> yes, sir. >> reporter: responding to the judge as he discussed his second-degree murder charge and rights in the case. >> yes, sir. >> reporter: it was a strictly procedural hearing, the judge agreeing to a request from the defense to seal court records in the case. >> if you want to do it from now on and the state agrees, is that -- >> we're in agreement with that. that's fine, your honor. >> no request for bail, it

zimmerman and the teenager took place in a gated community where martin was staying with his father. zimmerman has said the shooting was in self-defense. prince georges county police officer is on administrative leave after she fired her weapon during a call until temple hills. it happened at 3:00 this morning at the lynn hill condos on good hope avenue. two officers responded to a robbery call, they were confronted by a suspect as they arrived at the building, when they say the suspect started acting in a bizarre manner. >> he threw himself on the ground, and then reached for and acted as if he had a weapon. based on his actions, the officers believed that he had a gun, and our female officer in this situation fired her county-issued weapon. none of the rounds hit the suspect. >> that suspect was arrested after the incident. for stabbing a man in the condo. that person is in a hospital in critical condition now. this is the second police-involved shooting in

prince georges county in less than a week. an officer shot and killed a man monday night in landover. police in the district have confirmed a meth lab was discovered at an apartment in adams morgan last night. officers were already serving a warrant when they discovered the meth lab. one man is in custody, a woman and six-month-old baby were also in the apartment when the lab was discovered. at this point we know one man is being charged with cocaine possession. a fake hand grenade launched a security scare and evacuations near ground zero, up in new york city. the bomb squad called to the world financial center in lower manhattan, just before 11:00 this morning. the security guard saw the grenade in a package, through an x-ray machine, he called the cops, nypd determined it was not dangerous, they cleared the scene in an hour-and-a-half. optimism about economic growth in china and that gave stock as big boost today here. the dow jones rallied, it went up 181 points.

could go six weeks. a nun in spain refused to testify today in a court case involving stolen babies. sister maria gomez appeared in court in madrid, accused of stealing a woman's newborn from the hospital in 1982 spanish police learned of the scheme last year, they believe the child was taken because her mother was considered undesirable. sister gomez is the first person to go on trial in this case. police believe the conspiracy involves a larger network that includes doctors, nurses and nuns. officials in north korea say they intend to go ahead with the controversial rocket launch. a five day window for that launch opened today. but it did not happen. reportedly because of bad weather. authorities in north korea say they plan to send a weather satellite in orbit but the u.s. and other nations believe that launch might be part of an effort to develop a delivery system for nuclear weapon. the u.s., china, and russia have

all warned north korea not to go through with it. the launch preparations have been highly public, the centerpiece for celebration marking the centennial of the birth of north korea's founder. u.s. forest service officials are are calling one of the wild fires burning in virginia suspicious. investigators say the blaze that is consuming the rich hole forest in allegheny county started in the exact same spot as a previous fire. they also say the flames jumped the containment line by the length of a football field earlier this week. >> when you get a fire that started in the same place as a fire a few weeks ago or a month ago or last year, there may be something more than coincidence going on. >> the fire burned 7000 acres since saturday. large first burned an additional 10,000 acres across page, craig and shenandoah counties. >> the lack of rainfall and warm temperatures in the month of

news station, this is news4 at 6:00. george zimmerman made his first appear an in sanford, florida. charged yesterday with murder in the death of 17-year-old trayvon martin. prosecutors have released a probable cause affidavit. it says george zimmerman profiled the black teenager. zimmerman is due back in court on may 29th for an arraignment he will likely enter a plea at that time. in the meantime being held in jail. democrats and republicans are battling for the women's vote and in the past 24 hours, the war of words got personal. democratic adviser hillary rosen slammed mitt romney for saying he gets economic advice from his wife, an, a stay-at-home mother who raised five kids. rosen said ann romney never worked a day in her life. this afternoon rosen released a statement saying she had apologized to ann romney and anyone else offended by her remarks. the nationals made their home opener down at nats park a winner for the fans. they beat the reds 3-2.

arrested the store supervisor. not only was he present during both crimes, he was also caught on video helping the robber. >> they did notice the night supervisor acted suspiciously. he entered one minute in the store before the robber came in the store. he never mentioned this to detectives. when the robber leaves the store, he forgets the bag of money. you see the supervisor running out with the bag and the suspect gets it. >> that supervisor is 5-year-old fenton graham of silver spring. his girlfriend, michelle, was arrested for hindering the investigation. she is the daughter of the armed robber. metro riders may be used to riding the rails without air conditioning during the summer, but the agency says things are going to get better. ako the air conditioning units failed on average more than once

a study was released on the latch restraint system. it's required on every car manufactured since 2002. the poor design can block the anchor that holds the in place. general motors announced it's recalling 50,000 crossover suvs due to bad windshield wiper, 2011 and 2012 chevy traverse, buick enclave and gmc acadia. ice and snow can build up on the wipers and cause them to fail. gm will send letters to owners later this month. no crashes or injuries have been reported. a russian doctor now faces possible jail time because he was apparently short on both time and patience. a security camera was rolling when the doctor crashed this

firefight. captain crawford received the air force cross today. in a ceremony at the pentagon. it is the second highest military decoration in the air force, second only to the medal of honor. here what is captain crawford did. in afghanistan, he was combat controller, served as the communication link between the forces on the ground and their air support. back on may 4th of 2010, he survived a 14 hour firefight. he also ran in the line of fire to save the lives of three wounded afghan soldiers, and to evacuate two afghan soldiers who had been killed in action. all the while, the captain was calling in air strikes, and using his assault rifle to fight off the enemy. during that 14 hour battle, he coordinated more than 33 aircraft and 40 air strikes. captain crawford is from philadelphia, when he came home
