it hurt them because they allowed two shorthanded goals for the philadelphia flyers. momentum changes when you're scored upon well on the power play. and the flyers took full advantage. they created offensive chances. turnover by kris letang. it's claude giroux with a chance to score there. fleury, a nice save. not good decisions with the puck by letang. he gets crushed trying to get the puck in the zone. too much individual work by him in particular. crosby has a tough play, turns it over. and giroux's off to the races shorthanded. talbot picks up the marker right there. another shorthanded goal. 3-2, the score. penguins on a power play. and giroux pumps in the second shorty of the game. flyers took full advantage of some miscues by the penguins. >> it's the perplexing approach penguins have taken to this thing, they haven't paid attention at all to the defensive side of the game. you see turnovers. you see misreads coming back on the back-check.

the way. but backstrom has registered the overtime winner. that's his second of his very brief nhl playoff career. braden holtby is with pierre. >> pierre: what was the hardest part of this game for you? >> i think the hardest part was coming back from the late goal in the third. we knew what was on the table. we bounced back as a group. it's a huge win for us. >> pierre: take us inside your dressing room. what was said after the first overtime preparing for the second overtime? >> it was actually good. there wasn't much said. i think everyone could feel the confidence in the room. it's good. our leaders stepped up. nicky got the huge goal. >> pierre: you've always had this per spgs of being so unflappable. where does that come from? >> a lot of teaching. i haven't been like that forever. but working on my craft. mental game is a big thing for a goalie.

game two of the stanley cup playoffs, and the caps. once again, take the bruins into overtime. but this time, it ends with a win with a goal in the second overtime. whew. niklas backstrom scoring. good evening, i'm chris gordon. we begin tonight with new details about the secret service agents accused of hiring prostitutes in colombia. the agents were to prepare for the president's arrival for the summit of the americas. a dozen agents were sent home, and tonight five military service members have also been linked to the episode. nbc's kristen welker has the latest. >> reporter: president obama arrived here in colombia yesterday for the summit of the americas. he was hoping to address issues including trade, energy, immigration and also to address

some criticism that he hasn't paid enough attention to latin america. but now the agenda of this summit has really been overshadowed by what is becoming a scandal for the secret service agency. >> it would not be appropriate for the president to characterize something that's being looked into by the secret service at this time. all i can tell you is that it was -- he was made aware of it. but beyond that, i'm not going to characterize his reaction. >> reporter: according to the secret service, numerous officials were sent home prior to the president's arrival amid allegations of misconduct. those secret service officials were replaced by other officials, secret service is now launching an internal investigation, and they stress that the president's security was never compromised. we are today getting new information from ron kessler who has written a book about the secret service, an expert on the matter. he says those secret service officials involved were soliciting prostitutes and they may have brought those prostitutes back to the hotel where they are staying, and that that in turn is what ultimately

wound up alerting authorities. it should be noted that secret service agents generally stay at the same hotel as the president. this is undoubtedly a big embarrassment for the secret service, which prides itself on protecting the president. traveling with president in colombia, kristin welker, nbc news. an anne arundel police officer is being questioned after shooting someone during a domestic dispute call. it happened in the 800 block of cross valley lane. when police arrived, they heard a woman screaming. authorities say one of the officers, a four-year veteran, went inside and was confronted by gary petteri. petteri was eventually shot in the upper body. a female was taken to the hospital. she is expected to be okay. ahead on our newscast, chuck will tell us about severe weather in the midwest, and hot weather for us. and the local best buy stores that will be shutting

best buy is closing two stores in northern virginia. they are the stores at landmark mall in alexandria and costner's corner in fredericksburg. both locations will close permanently on may 12th. it's part of best buy's plans to close 50 stores nationwide over the next year. best buy says it will help the employees find other jobs within the company, or provide severance packages. best buy has 39 other stores in the d.c. area. >> is everybody ready? >> yeah!

[ bell clanging ] >> our very own dan hellie took to the sidelines today to cheer on hundreds of runners in fairfax county. he emceed the annual run for the arts 5k and the fun run. proceeds from the races benefit the foundation's arts and education programs. beautiful day for everything. here's chuck bell. >> all right. thanks, chris. yes, indeed, a beautiful day outside today. plenty of sunshine for much of the day, but now some clouds have snuck in. temperature now ticking down to 69 degrees with a light breeze out of the south at 7 miles per hour. still mild everywhere. mid 70s down towards fredericksburg. low 70s in maryland and the shenandoah valley, as well. and there are some showers out here, mainly to the west of the blue ridge out into the mountains of west virginia. they're making slow but steady progress eastbound. the air mass in place east of the mountains is fairly dry. so a lot of this is going to dry up as it comes over the

mountains. but nonetheless, i think there' enough moisture out there to at least introduce some shower chances, beginning later on the second half of our saturday evening, and then through much of the overnight hours a period of light rain and showers completely possible. so some passing sprinkles and showers late this evening into the overnight hours tonight. that clears out early tomorrow. so we'll start off with some clouds early on. but then the sunshine breaks out for the second half of your sunday. and a big summer-like warmup comes in starting tomorrow afternoon. and as we get into monday, you can almost throw the word hot at it, as temperatures especially in south central virginia will be getting close to 90 degrees on monday. so for this evening, increasing clouds, breezy, mild, chance for some sprinkles moving in. don't be completely shocked to see a few rain drops here and there, especially north and west of town. evening temperatures in the 60s. then tomorrow, get your day started with plenty of clouds around, maybe a sprinkle or two during the wee hours of tomorrow morning. and after a cloudy start tomorrow, the sunshine comes back. a much warmer day tomorrow. about a 10-degree improvement over today. and then bordering on hot for

monday with highs in the mid to upp upper 780s. chances for needed showers comes late tuesday night into the front half of wednesday before more beautiful april-like weather rolls in for the second half of the week. so ate little something for everybody in there. i just wish we could get a little more rain. >> thank you, chuck. monday, they're rocking the red at the verizon center. >> that's right. the stanley cup playoff series headed back to washington, tied at a game apiece for the second game in a row. goals in short supply while stellar goaltending was not. game two came down to a second overtime, and nick backstrom came up big. braden holtby ready to rebound. first period, boston on the power play, and holtby stops a shot from big zdeno chara, and shorthanded opportunity, but brad marchand's shot blocked by holtby. take another look. the caps collapse under bergeron. and 22 saves through it 2

periods. ovechkin picked in the net and brouwer pokes it through. finally the caps get on the board, the defender blocking tim thomas, and brouwer scores, ends 162 minutes of shutout hockey from thomas. same score, 1-0 now in the third period. boston attacks, rolston shut off, and pouliot, he pounces on it and ties the game. check it out again. slow to react. schultz. but pouliot is not. crashes in and ties the game. and just like game one, game two in overtime. second overtime period off the face-off and the bruins own caps get to the puck and marcus johan son to nick backstrom. that is the game winner. win 2-1. going back to washington. >> this is tremendous. makes all the difference to be one apiece in the series. >> big difference. they couldn't go down 2-0 to the boston bruins, defending stanley cup champions. now it comes back to washington
