firefighters to put out. and for the first time, president obama weighs in on the secret service scandal. agents and service members accused of hiring prostitutes. >> if it turns out that some of the allegations that have been made in the press are confirmed, then, of course, i'll be angry. >> i'm chris gordon. a man attacked on the subway. but he says it's what metro did next that really left him angry. he says his first calls for help went unanswered. and metro police took so long, he had to catch his attacker himself. news 4's darcy spencer joins us live from the smithsonian station with details. darcy? >> reporter: chris, yeah, this victim says that he was actually attacked while riding a metro train. he got off here at the smithsonian station. he says he and a couple of other passengers followed the attacker and watched him until police arrived and that was 15 minutes

later. >> down at the other end of the car we hear someone screening. f the white man. f the white man over and over again. >> this man who doesn't want to reveal his identity said the screaming man beat him up on a metro train last month. >> came down level with my face where i was sitting. said look me in the eyes, and i turned to look at him. at the same moment he head butted me. >> he says the assault wasn't even the worst of it. he says the train conductor and station manager ignored him. and he stayed on the phone with a dispatcher nearly 15 minutes before a metro transit officer got there. >> it's far too long. you know, something broke down somewhere. she didn't do her job right. >> reporter: he later found out the officer was dispatched from alexandria. he was at the smithsonian station in d.c. he says the dispatcher would not call for a d.c. cop. >> i kept saying over and over, why can't we coordinate with a different agency.

why can't you just get someone here. she kept saying please be patient. the officer is on his way. >> reporter: he says the chief of metro transit police told him d.c. police should have been called to assist since it was a crime in progress. >> they weren't able to keep me safe. they weren't able to respond when i needed them. >> reporter: the victim wrote an opinion piece that's printed in the sunday edition of the "washington post" saying why he doesn't feel safe riding metro. he's demanding an investigation and wants victims of similar situations to come forward. >> had that guy had a gun, a knife, this would have turned really, really bad really quickly. >> reporter: the victim's opinion piece is creating a lot of buzz on the web. already more than 100 comments on "the washington post" site. we contacted metro officials for a comment on this story. they say that it appears that his call was handled correctly, but they have launched an investigation into his

complaint. reporting live from the national mall, darcy spencer, news 4. one firefighter in the district was hurt tonight fighting a brush fire in southeast. the flames broke out around 7:00 near pennsylvania and branch avenues. officials say about an acre burned. no homes or structures were ever in danger. that firefighter who got hurt suffered minor injuries. another brush fire threatened homes in anne arundel county around 2:00 this afternoon at holiday point marina in edgewater. the flames damaged one structure at the marina and a boat. no injuries were reported. the cleanup continues tonight across the central and southern plains. the notorious tornado alley lived up to its name yesterday leaving a path of destruction across several states. nbc's jay gray has more from woodward, oklahoma. >> reporter: they were the images and sounds so many had feared. >> you could hear some people screaming, and down the road

there. you could hear stuff crashing and breaking. and it sounded horrible. >> reporter: tornadoes, nearly 100 of them, tearing across the midwest saturday and into sunday. at one time, two funnels dropping from the clouds in oklahoma. the violent system blasted through nebraska, iowa and kansas tearing away anything in its path. >> everything is gone. it's just gone. everything we had worked for all of our lives. >> reporter: in wichita it took only seconds to dismantle a part of this manufacturing plant. >> this was a monster system. >> reporter: it was even worse in woodward, oklahoma. joel and his daughter frantically searched for somewhere to ride out the ef-3 tornado. >> we crawled up underneath -- crawled up underneath here and we stayed there and debris was hitting our legs and stuff. >> reporter: but they were the lucky ones. five people were killed in this small town. three when a twister ripped through this mobile home park. the loss is overwhelmed this tight-knit community. adding to their grief, the think

that warning sirens were damaged during another storm early saturday and did not sound as the deadly twister moved in. >> i've thought about that ever since i found out that we lost five people. so i would think it would have helped, yes. >> reporter: it's help the heartland now needs as the cleanup begins. jay gray, nbc news, woodward, oklahoma. >> chuck, tonight is there still a threat of severe weather in the midwest? >> there certainly is. most of it now is down across arkansas, missouri or northbound into minnesota and now wisconsin as well. this big storm system is essentially splitting into two pieces. the main spin going northbound into the great lakes and the trailing cold front down into the middle of the mississippi river valley is generating a lot of severe weather down there as well. we'll take a look at it here on the radar. see where the heaviest of the showers and thunderstorms are now. most of them in western parts of wisconsin and then down the

mississippi river. heavy rain now from chicago to st. louis to little rock, all the way into parts of southern texas. meanwhile, all is quiet around here after a toasty warm day. unfortunately it's going to be dry through the overnight and feel a lot like summer around here for your monday. we need some rain showers. we'll talk about whether or not we'll get any anytime soon coming up. tonight, president obama says he'll be angry if the allegations against the secret service are proven to be true. 11 agents were put on leave accused of hiring prostitutes during a trip to colombia. brian mooar has the latest. >> reporter: president obama's summit visit to colombia has been upstaged by allegations of scandalous misconduct by some of the secret service personnel sent there to ensure his safety. >> if it turns out that some of the allegations that have been made in the press are confirmed, then, of course, i'll be angry. we're representing the people of

the united states. and when we travel to another country, i expect us to observe the highest standards. >> reporter: the hotel carib ne cartagena is said to be the scene of a night of over the top partying on wednesday that included booze and prostitutes. 11 secret service agents and uniform division officers have been relieved of duty. five members of the military are also said to be under investigation. the president stayed at a different hotel and the agents involved were not members of the elite presidential protection division. but now the whole agency and its culture are cast in an unflattering light. >> the investigation will not be about the 11 to 20 or more involved. it will be about how did this happen, and how often has this happened before? >> reporter: ron kessler wrote the definitive book on the secret service. >> and this really is the biggest scandal in the history of the secret service. >> reporter: and a deep embarrassment for an agency whose motto is, worthy of trust

and confidence. brian mooar, nbc news, washington. >> well, prostitution is legal in parts of colombia. the secret service says it holds its agents to a higher standard. and has zero tolerance for misconduct. the u.s. senate will take up the so-called buffett rule tomorrow. is named after wealthy investor warren buffett who says he pays a lower tax rate than his secretary. lawmakers will consider president obama's proposal requiring people earning $1 million or more to pay at least 30% of their income in taxes. three men are facing charges tonight after a police chase in culpeper. an officer pulled over an suv around 2:30 this morning on state route 3. police say as the officer approached the vehicle, the driver, david story jr. backed up and struck the officer's arm and then drove away. police say after a short chase, the suv crashed into a ditch and story jumped from the vehicle and ran. he was arrested a few minutes

later. he now faces numerous charges, including assault on a law enforcement officer, hit and run and dui. the other two men in the suv were charged with public intoxication. two teens were stabbed, another three injured during a house party in brandywine. it happened last night on poplar ridge road. police say several suspects came uninvited. an argument broke out, and then two of the teens were stabbed. one of them remains in critical but stable condition. police say the other injuries were minor. no arrests have been made. tomorrow marks five years since the mass shooting at virginia tech that killed 32 people. the tragedy changed the course of many lives. omar samaha is one of them. his little sister rima was a freshman at tech. in deal with his grief, he became an advocate for changing gun laws in the u.s. but still travels back to virginia tech often for football games and to

the second perjury trial for roger clemens is scheduled to begin tomorrow here in the district. federal prosecutors slipped up last july when they showed jurors evidence that wasn't allowed in court. forcing a mistrial. this time, the department of justice has added three new lawyers to the case. clemens is charged with perjury and obstruction of congress for lying about using performance-enhancing drugs. he could face up to 30 years in jail if convicted.

a local comedian is getting more than just a few laughs tonight. joe dealy suffered a stroke nearly six weeks ago. tonight, comedians from all over the country came together to try to raise money for his medical bills. news 4's erica gonzalez reports. >> i go on facebook, the left side of my sfas drooping. >> reporter: one joke after another. joe deeley admit he's doesn't know when to turn off the funny man routine. after suffering a paralyzing stroke nearly six weeks ago, he tells me it's what helps him cope. but the truth is this comedian is scared. >> any trekkies? i'm a trekkie. >> reporter: 11 years ago, deeley sought out to make it big. but the price of pursuing his dream left him without insurance. >> they say don't quit your day job. i quit my day job. bad move. >> reporter: today, deeley is in a fair oaks nursing facility making strides in the road to recovery. two weeks ago he regained

movement of his left arm. >> later on that day, i was able to do this and i burst into tears and i called my dad and i said, i can move my arm. and it's just scary because i'm trapped. >> reporter: with two elderly parents and a mentally ill brother to care for, who would take care of deeley? a question that's provoked many a sleepless night. that is until comics united. >> my friends heard that i needed help, and they came to my rescue. it's like the comedy coast guard. here i am flailing, help, i'm drowning, and they're all coming to my rescue. >> reporter: comedians from across the country had audiences at the d.c. improv in northwest in a stitch tonight to help deeley pay for his medical bills. >> i've spent ten years as a comic. have a accomplished anything? i didn't have any one big thing i can point to but now this -- i feel like george bailey at the end of "it's a wonderful life." >> reporter: joe tells me his goal is to walk out of here by june 16th, the day before his birthday and says the whole

ordeal has even made him contemplate changing professions. >> can't wait to get back to full capacity. i'd like to become a physical therapist because they are really amazing people. they are very dedicated. i may not be a big star, but i've got friends. i've got great friends. >> reporter: in fair oaks, erica gonzalez, news 4. >> joe deeley, a heart-warming story. >> he spent the last ten years making other people feel better. it's nice people are reaching out and helping him feel better. >> i know erica was affected by that story. >> absolutely. and a great calling. he decides to get into physical therapy, there are fewer higher causes than helping somebody else. outside, you couldn't complain with today, could you? of course not. 83 degrees in april. yes, indeed. time to break out the shorts and the running shoes. well, we may have done that a little while ago. today was another fine example of a day you could take out the running shoes, the bicycle.

head out to the lincoln memorial, the volleyball field out there. beautiful day outside today. temperatures, like i mentioned, 83 for a high temperature this afternoon. even here at 11:00 at night, in april, our average high temperature is only 67 degrees. it's 76 degrees at 11:00 at night. winds out of the southwest at 16. ushering in that warm and increasingly moisture -- more moisture-laden air into the area. you'll notice a hint of presummer humidity tomorrow. temperatures even at this late night hour, low to mid-70s all over the metro. your monday planner is a warm one indeed. temperatures mid-60s on your way out to work and school. low to mid-80s at lunchtime. and still in the low 80s by the time you get home from work and school about 6:00 tomorrow night. plenty of sunshine start to finish. maybe a few more clouds for you folks out further to the west in the shenandoah valley. as far as the big storm that caused all the trouble yesterday, the main center of low pressure is just about on top of minneapolis and st. paul

in minnesota. severe weather out ahead of it tonight. across parts of northwestern wisconsin and heavy rain now coming through the chicago area. this could really impact some of those monday morning flights. a lot of airplanes may be slowed down tomorrow. detroit to chicago, st. louis, memphis, little rock and eventually down the coast towards the houston, texas, area. be ready for potential for weather-rated flight delays if you are flying away from mid-atlantic. if you are staying here, a mild overnight hours. moisture definitely on the increase. tomorrow you're going to notice it. warm and sunny for sure. temperatures well into the mid-80s again tomorrow. but with that southwest wind bringing more and more moisture up it will feel a little bit like summer humidity out there tomorrow. by 10:00 tomorrow night, the weather front still west of the mountains with a few showers in the mountains but watch what happens as it comes east of the mountains. all this relatively dry air in place, barely any shower chances at all around here until maybe we get back towards wednesday when finally some cooler air comes into the picture and a

to score. clifford takes the loss as the nationals fall, 8-5. they are back at it tomorrow against houston. there's not going to be a goalie controversy for the capitals. at least not yet. rookie braden holtby playing so well that dale hunter says holtby is the guy, even if michael neuvirth gets healthy enough to play. he could be available this week. thomas vokoun aggravated a groin muscle last month and isn't skating. so it doesn't look like he'll be back for a while. as for the rook, holtby has turned away 72 of 74 shots against the defending champs. the bruins haven't been able to solve the riddle that is the rook and holtby continues to stay aggressive in the crease. the series now tied at 1-1 with game three coming up at verizon

♪ celebrations as d.c. commemorates emancipation day. the holiday which is officially tomorrow, marks the day d.c.'s slaves were freed. it came nine months before the emancipation proclamation. it's estimated that about 3,000 slaves were granted their freedom on that day 150 years ago. salmonella concerns prompted a recall of bagged salad. dole is recalling more than 650 cases of its seven lettuces salad. the bags all have a use by date of april 11th, 2012. now no one has gotten sick, but salmonella was found in a random sample. the product was sold in 15 states, including maryland and virginia. so if you have any, officials
