>> the nation's capital prepares for discovery final flight. some of the best places to witness history in the morning. >> and an entertaining game between the caps/bruins. tell you who came out on top. >> first, fender-benders may not be what they seem. they could be the setup to something much more dangerous. the warning is going out to drivers across montgomery county after two incidents on one stretch of road in the potomac area. jackie benson reports. >> reporter: it was just after midnight saturday morning when police say a 58-year-old man driving a volvo on jones lane in potomac felt another vehicle bump him from behind. when hen g got out he was confronted by two masked men. >> they put him in the trunk of his own vehicle, and drove him to several atms where they obtained money.

>> reporter: the man was released. three hours later in the parking lot of the church on jones lane. police later learned a woman driving a range rover also on jones lane about a mile away was bumped from behind around 11:30 p.m., april 3. >> she didn't feel it was a legitimate hit from behind. she felt maybe she had been rammed and therefore contacted police instead of stopping her vehicle. >> reporter: in that case the suspects drove off. neighbors say they're very concerned. >> that's scary. yeah. i don't want to get in a situation like that. >> very late at night. early in the morning. 2:00, 3:00 in the morning there is maybe nobody around. >> reporter: this area is still fairly rural, it is not densely populated. police say the fact that the suspects knew of all the locations including the church may indicate they live some where nearby. jackie benson, news 4. thousands of people gathered in blacksburg, virginia tonight. five years after a gunman went

on a rampage at virginia tech. students, teachers, even the governor paused to remember, jim carrey has our report. >> reporter: it's become a yearly ritual of remembrance, an act of unity, the candlelight vigil that took place five years ago the day after 35 were killed and 22 wounded. their family members were at the center of the memorial. >> leslie geraldine sherman. >> reporter: a candle is lit for each of the victims. earlier in the evening, governor bob mcdonald whose daughter will graduate from virginia tech spoke at the powerful vigil. >> at this moment of remembrance, you have chosen not to curse the darkness but chosen to light a candle. >> reporter: classes were held on april 16th for the first time. >> we attend class today not because we have forgotten but because we choose to live on for

tax on people making $2 million. republicans say it is a political gimmick that would do little to help the economy. >> president obama says he will push congress to make the tax code more equitable for the wealthy and middle classes. >> a california rape case reaching into uncharted legal territory raising questions about how the victims of sexual assault should be treated. it involves a teenage rape victim and unusual step taken by prosecutors to get her to testify against her attacker. jim hanley is here with more. jim? >> reporter: the 17-year-old was allegedly raped, by a serial rapist. >> i am truly sorry for all you have been through. >> reporter: an apology from a judge as a teenage rape victim basically jailed to ensure she will testify against her attacker was set free.

police say the suspect is a serial rapist. they filed charges against him. prosecutors had to drop them after she failed to show up in court twice. the girl is unfoster care and has a history of running away. last month prosecutors refiled the charges and had her placed in juvenile detention saying her testimony is vital to getting him off the streets. and that outweighs any inconvenience to her. the tactic isn't sitting well with everyone. the teen's attorneys say she is being treated like a criminal not a victim. and victims' rights groups stay what happened to her could discourage other victims from reporting sexual assaults. the teen's freedom does come with some restrictions. she has to wear a gps ankle bracelet, so authorities can track her down if she should disappear again. the trial is set to begin april 23rd. jim, doreen? >> thank you, jim. coming up -- bourbon street in washington some are calling it.
