we could get more than an inch of rain. we get more than an inch and a half, it will be the rainiest day since december 7th, pearl harbor day. we need every drop we will get. we have been so dry that even with the heavy rain coming, not even a threat for flooding. take it slow and easy on the haoez for sunday and monday and tuesday. the rain drops are not going anywhere anytime soon. moderate rain moving into parts of st. mary's county. that's the leading edge of a big plume of moisture. heavy rain experts from offshore down to the northern coast of flaw. we are watching it closely. temperatures are falling throughout the course of the

that car. >> this morning, a man is recovering from a vicious dog attack in d.c. the attack happened on friday night along queen street. andre hawthorne tells us he was getting home from work when he saw the two dogs, and he describes them as pit bulls and was chasing two teenagers. the dogs began to attack him. >> i fell down, so both dogs were coming at me, and i was trying to protect my face and check. >> hawthorne was bitten on both arms and hands. he is now getting rabie shots and will find out tomorrow if he has nerve damage. police are still looking for the

dogs' owner. a homicide along marine row barics. police heard both make a homophobic slur towards bushong. p ofpl th stabbed bushong. >> in columbia heights, a carjacking ended towards the border. a man and woman were thrown into the trunk of a car, but the kidnappers could not drive a stick shift so they ordered the man to drive them around. the man jumped out of the car and ran for help. the woman freed herself. both victims suffered minor injuries. and then media are staking out the jail for a glimpse of

george zimmerman. defense attorneys say his family is having a hard time coming up with the bail set at $150,000. the case sparks countless protests with many upset that police initially did not charge zimmerman. his lawyer said public outrage made safety an issue for his client. >> it's difficult, because i want to get him somewhere where he is safe and available to help me, but it's difficult. >> zimmerman's attorney said he hopes a release will happen by the middle of the week. he did not say if his client will stay in florida while waiting for a trial. >> the latest on the secret service prostitution scandal. one senator is asking if any white house members are part of the on going investigation.

charms grassly sent a letter to the secret service director. he asked several questions, including whether the agency reserved or share roomed for white house staff members. 11 employees are accused of bringing prostitutes back to their hotel in columbia on april 11th. six of the agents have already resigned. the man leading the investigation into the scandal will be on "meet the press." the homeland security committee chairman, peter king, along with darryl issa. a prominent member of the nixon white house that became a

key figure in the watergate scandal has died. colson spent seven months in prison for trying to discredit the man behind the pentagon papers. after his release he founded prison fellowship. colson spent the remaining years of his life helping ex-immates. he died yesterday after surgery trying to fix a blood caught. charles colson was 80 years old. and a pastor fired from his family's historic church will begin services at a different location. the dispute stems over money in one of the largest churches in our area. derrick has the story. >> reporter: we are outside the metro points hotel just off of 450 and the beltway, and there's an old adage that says the church is not the building, but

the people inside. joe pebbles considered the heir, he was ousted by church leadership on wednesday. the board was created by decree by his mother's will. she died in 2010, and since then there has been a disagreement about the management of the assets of the church. this has been characterized by lawsuits and even claims leveled by each respective side that they were in league with satan. the minister has called for cool heads to prevail and called for his followers to not hate. he said in his vision of a church, it will continue and go on. >> the eyes of the world are looking at us right now. some people are looking at us to see if we are going to be angry

dramatic pictures in overnight from japan. a chemical plant exploded. the blast killed a worker and injured 17 others. a man that took a picture of the plan the on fire said the explosion felt like an earthquake. it was powerful enough to break the windows on surrounding homes and buildings. no word yet on what caused this explosion. this morning police in new mexico are searching for a man that opened fire at a mobile speed camera. the camera inside a speed van caught the man pulling up in van last week, and he gets out in what looks to be a nightgown. the santa fe police say they are

this year's unusually warm weather brought extra sunshine and along with it the early arrival of tick season. according to the centers for disease control 12 diseases are transmitted by particulars, including lyme disease. a rash appears within a few days to a month, and usually at the site of the tick bite. >> we think that the summer of 2012 is going to be the worst year yet for lyme disease, at

of low pressure to form. what will help it do so? this little area of green showers, that's a jet stream streak that will come into the base of the area of low pressure and deepen the low very, very quickly. as a result, we are going to see a lot of rain tonight. if you have travel plans, monday morning to philadelphia, new york city, or boston, leave early or plan on having a big delay tomorrow. the heaviest rains for us come in late this afternoon through the evening hours. heaviest rain probably 3:00 this afternoon, to about midnight tonight. and then the low races up the coast, and takes the heaviest rain with it. plenty of moisture and cold air. places like western maryland, six inches of snow could get two or three inches as far as

her disappearance is being called suspicious. 6-year-old isabel salas was discover the gone around 8:00 on saturday morning. investigators are looking into all potential scenarios including the possibility that isabel wandered out of the home or that she was kidnapped. police in new york are searching the collection of clues involving the disappearance of a 6-year-old boy. they have been tearing a basement apart in hopes of solving the mystery. brian moore has the latest. >> reporter: working into the weekend police investigators in new york continued the effort to close the cold case disappearance of aaton. he disappeared in what should have been a short walk to his

bus stop. each piece of ruble could hold the key to breaking the case. searchers were literally shifting through the dirt for clues. >> careful work is going to be done. precise, detailed deliberative work is going to be done. >> etan's disappearance was national news and it is now 30 days later. ramos was found responsible for etan's death in a civil court, but attention is now focussed on miller, a handyman that used the basement that is now being searched. >> i am not seeing anything other than the denial in involvement of what happened to the beautiful young boy. >> in new york, hope, lots of movement but still no resolution

in the search for etan patz. brian moore, nbc news. tomorrow, opening statements begin in two high profile cases. a retrial is happening here in the district for roger clemens. the former major league pitcher is accused of lying about using performance enhancing drugs. the government wants to keep one reported exchange out of court between clemens and a congressman. in that statement clemens denies he told a teammate he took a human growth hormone. ironically prosecutors allowed another portion of that exchange last year and it led to a mistrial. tomorrow in tkpwrepbz borough, north carolina, edwards will face a jury. he is accused of misusing campaign money to hide an affair while he ran for president in

2008. the former candidate faces six criminal counts. the mistress, rielle hunter, could testify for the defense. virginia state police say they are investigating hundreds of cases of voter fraud. according to the richmond times, they are looking at 400 cases across the commonwealth. 26 have been consreublgted. most of the charges included people lying on registration forms and illegally casting ballots. this morning walmart is looking into an investigation that they used bribes to obtain permits all over the country to build stores quickly and to dominate the market. walmart issues a response saying it's working aggressively to determine what happened.

a volleyball and a soccer ball that washed ashore in alaska may be the first pieces of debris to arrive in the u.s. from last year's tsunami in japan. look at a picture of that soccer ball. it was in the gulf of alaska. the sports equipment was traced back to a japanese school hit by the tsunami. an earthquake hit on march 11th, 2011, and 16,000 people were killed and 3,000 people still unaccounted for. right now, her family believes she was dying of cancer and had six months to live. her school raised $6,000 for her cause, but just one problem, she did not have cancer. a miraculous comeback on robin gibbs. his condition is still to come.

obama's college tour, pennsylvania voters head to the polls, and money, money, money. on monday, romney campaigns in pennsylvania. he will likely remain in the state through tuesday. on tuesday, republican voters go to the polls in five states. president obama begins a two-day three-state trip this swing states talking student loans. if congress does not act by july 1st, student loan interest rates could double. he will hit college campuses first at the university of north carolina chapel hill. in north carolina the president will make his first appearance on the jimmy fallon show. it can't be spelled out clearer, this is about young

welcome back. our wednesday's child this week is a young man you have met before. it has been three years since we first introduced you to tony. >> barbara harrison caught up with him at best buy and found he had an interest in electronics. >> remember tony? he is taller since we met him. back then he wanted to grow up to be a dog trainer. he has new ideas now. although he doesn't have a cell phone or ipad, he loves reading the specks for them.

could be seriously impacted. rain drops switching over to snowflakes in far western maryland, some spots near deep creek lake could see six inches of snow or more, and could get the one-inch line as far east as cumberland, maryland. occasional snowflakes possible, maybe as close by as frederick, maryland. i don't think it will add up to too much. rainfall amounts, one to one and a half inches from i-95 westbound to the blue ridge, and one and a half to three inches or poor from i-95 eastbound to the chesapeake bay. and then an ugly day to go back to work and school for tomorrow. rain ending with occasional snowflakes and a few spots. staying very chilly through tuesday. a peek that sun shows up on tuesday. i am already optimistic for next weekend. >> yeah, look ahead, to the goal next weekend.

>> eyes on the prize. a texas teenager is behind bars accused of pocketing thousands of dollars after she convinced her family and friends and classmates that she was dying on leukemia. the 19-year-old angie gomez was arrested in horizon city on friday. her school held several fundraisers for gomez. there is no evidence bgomez eve had cancer. and bee gees singer robin gibbs spent more than a week in a coma. he can nod his head and communicate with family members. the 62-year-old got pneumonia and fell into a coma last week. he had intentional surgery last month. gibbs founded the group with his
