afternoon. rich peverley one of the most underrated forwards. watch the hustle. this is great stuff by a guy that wins the draw here. hustles to the front of the net. gets the redirect goal and bruins on the board. another guy i think is the most underrated defenseman is andrew ference. he turned into a terrific defender and knows how to jump up in the play. take a chance on occasion. this is why they are where they are at. bruins made it interesting thanks to ference and peverley. >> we are headed towards overtime. philadelphia is the first team in the east to move on. virtuoso performance by claude giroux sent the pittsburgh penguins marching home.

welcome back to subway intermission report. first round series that generated the most buzz, most bruises and most goals was pittsburgh at philadelphia. earlier today the flyers put an end to it. in philadelphia, first period, 32 seconds in, claude giroux finding the back of the net. >> terrific wrist shot by giroux. you have to love the energy he brought to the game, really to the entire series to get the flyers started. >> after the second period, 2-0. make it three. eric gustafsson, his first career playoff goal.

penguins' bench. this is what you want from your best player. he answers it 32 seconds into the first period with a ripper past fleury. great start to the game for the philadelphia flares. they never looked back. thanks to claude giroux, they move on. >> have you seen a more impactful first 32 seconds of a game? >> no. probably the first six seconds. when he hits crosby, the tone was set to trumpet with the goal was more emphatic. >> six points in a single game, 14 points in a series. he's clearly elevated his play. speaking of a guy who elevates his play, danny briere. pedestrian regular season but are you surprised he had this big of an impact on the postseason? >> not at all. he's done it in 2010. helped carries the flyers on his back to the stanley cup finals. back doing it again. he had some question marks in the bass back of his mind during the regular season. he certainly showed he can do it in the playoffs.

the poise under pressure, quick shots, ability to get to the high traffic areas for a little guy, he came up huge for the flyers. look at that. finds the back of the net. pumped up, fired up. came up huge after putting on a clinic offensively throughout the series. biggest goal was scored here. penguins made it 3-1. started to get nervous? not for long. briere responds. gets it to the back of the net. fired up for good reason come playoff time. >> let's bring back to our game. we are headed to overtime down in d.c. who do you think gets the overtime winner? >> alexander ovechkin. he's got the tire and the hot hand right now for the washington capitals. determined effort from ovechkin in this game. a more confident ovechkin since he scored. >> a lot are dirty goals. i go with milan lucic. >> one for the caps, one for the bruins. we'll see how it plays out. getting set for overtime in

minutes. the fact of the matter is it's a long change. you've got a lot of tired people who played excessive minutes the last two days. it's probably going to come down to a fundamental mental mistake. you've got to watch the bouncing pucks. make sure if you're a forward, pucks have to be in deep if you're the last man back. you've got to be hard off the boards. you can't make fancy plays now. the situations don't encourage it. >> mike: if you just like hockey and you're not a fan of either team, it's got to be a lot of fun for you. if you are, going to be agonizing. and it will continue if the answer goes against you.

beagle, shot grabbed thigh high and held by thomas. >> eddie: bergeron gets this puck back to the point. he looks for the stick. marchand off the stick of patrice bergeron. off the crossbar and behind holtby. >> pierre: now carlson is being told, make sure you pick up the right area. bergeron makes a really good read. >> eddie: two close calls for the bruins. >> mike: they win the draw thanks to krejci. on for the drop back. milan lucic so ference can settle things down. making the sweep is krejci. trouble there though. ference had a little trouble handling. though it does come back to him. as they say in hockey, better next time. ference brings this ahead.

he's gotten it to the red line and back in. off to wideman. rattled all the way back down so ference will go back and get another icing. 3:03 played in the first sudden death overtime period. ovechkin remains out. backstrom and johansson. lucic is directly behind krejci if he can win it. similar play on the opposite side resulted in the tying goal from ovechkin for washington. hamrlik led it across. backstrom couldn't go at the pass the way he wanted it. he scores! tyler seguin! and the series will go back to boston for a seventh.

>> pierre: you guys look fresher. it wasn't easy. you have a lot of banged-up people. will three days off help? >> yeah. i think so. we have a lot of character. couple days off, play at home and get it rocking will be good. >> pierre: how much do you draw on last year going to the stanley final and winning three game sevens during the playoffs last year? >> it's huge. i feel like we have that experience advantage. hopefully, we keep it rolling during game seven. >> pierre: talk is inside your mind game seven in boston to start the game? >> crazy. still gives you the goosebumps. my first time here in the playoffs. the garden gets me rocking. >> pierre: thanks for your time. see you for game seven, tyler. >> thank you. >> mike: it is the first time a seven-game series has seen the first six games decided by the

margin of one. this one in overtime, the third overtime game, the first one here in washington and it is won by the bruins. >> eddie: it was a matter of time in this overtime for the boston bruins. had a couple of great chances early. then again a turnover. great pass by lucic. tyler seguin who had an outstanding afternoon yesterday, had nothing to show for it. today gets a goal and assist. gets the big game winner. then, the patience and subtle move with his stick to make it look like he's going to shoot the puck and just opens that blade up. that frees holtby. a wide-open net for tyler seguin. we've seen him get streaky over the course of the last two-plus hockey seasons. he's the type of guy that can be a huge factor in game seven going back home for the bruins. >> pierre: you talked about it yesterday. four shots on goal in game five. wasn't able to capitalize coming

into this game through five games. he had 20 shots on goal. krejci does a good job. lucic makes a good play. live legs kick in. fresh legs like seguin today, marchand yesterday helped the bruins. give washington a ton of credit. washington laid it on the line. it was a neutral zone turnover by backstrom and awesome finish by seguin. >> eddie: the big guys got into it offensively for the boston bruins, the guys on the capitals pat their goaltender on the backside and the head. big guys for the boston bruins got on the board the last couple of games which they had been shut out the first four of the series. big guys showed up huge in the last two. >> mike: there have been two games today. what did you think of those? you saw them back-to-back on nbc. one was the elimination of the penguins by the flyers.
