first a metro train derails at rosalynn station creating may your problems during the evening commute. >> shomari stone is on the scene. tell us what happened, won't you, shomari. >> reporter: right now, jim, doreen, blue and orange lines are operating as scheduled. every 20 minutes. what they normally do at 11:00. you asked what caused all this? we are hearing there was a wheel on the first car of the train. it popped off. caused the train to derail. right now crews are trying to get the train back on the tracks. >> delays due to the incident at rosalynn station. >> reporter: here is the incident she is talking about. this metro train sits off the tracks at rosalynn. inconveniencing hundreds on the orange and blue lines. >> it looks scary. >> reporter: nicole mcdonald knew something was wrong when she saw metro crews inspecting her train.

at 7:00 the truck on one car of the franconia/springfield bound blue train were derailed. no passengers were hurt. metro police told the ones going from d.c. to blue line destinations take the yellow line from l'enfent plaza. there are so many more people on this evening's commute. ♪ >> reporter: some listen to sweet voices while they wait. others voice their frustration. >> i can understand these things happen. they shouldn't. but they do. it's the fact that they don't have any response plan. >> reporter: how does it make you feel seeing the train has been derailed now you had to wait? >> it's normal. normal. metro doesn't tell you anything. i actually learned it from your guy. >> reporter: from us? >> yeah. >> reporter: now she heard from us however a lot of other passengers did hear from metro in all fairness. metro is recommending people go to their website. sign up for their alerts. no word on what affect this will have on tomorrow morning's

commute. officials plan to release more information over the next couple hours. live here in rosalynn, virginia, shomari stone, back to you. >> thank you. to the breaking news in district heights. a man shot in the head in the street. in the 1600 block of addison road, 8:00 tonight. the victim died at a hospital. his identity has not been released. so word no word on motive or anyone arrested. >> the fire chief ordered all fire fighters and paramedics in prince george's county to canvas going door to door to test carbon monoxide detectors. this move comes after five people in one house died of carbon monoxide poisoning today on shelby drive. jackie benson is live with more. jacks. >> reporter: when temperatures dipped down, occupants of this home like a lot of us turned on their furnace. that decision had deadly consequences. by night fall, friends and family had begun clearing out

the home on shelby drive in oxon hill where tragedy struck this morning. it struck at the heart of the community that found shelter and accept a acceptance in this part of prince george's county. marvin chavez arrived about 10:00 a.m. to check on his father and stepmother recovering from back surgery. he found everyone in the house dead. 56-year-old oscar chavez seen here with a grandchild along with his wife, 44-year-old sonja. sonja's sister, noraleva visiting and two neighbors. the first fire fighters who responded measured some of the highest carbon monoxide levels they had ever encountered in a home. the culprit a gas furnace flu damaged by rust and partially detached. >> the reality is these people apparent leap were affected quickly by a large quantity of carbon monoxide. without the detector and without the connection of the pipe,

consider it. >> other names tossed about. chris christie, jeb bush, and former secretary of state, condoleezza rice. secret service forced out three more agents tonight because of ties to the prostitution candscandal in colombia. two resigned. a third had national security clearance revoked. announcement today brings the total ousted to nine. president obama says secret service employees do incredible work but he says those caught in the scandal were in his words, knuckle heads. a rite-aid manager, father two of shot in a bold midday robbery. now speaking exclusively to news 4 tonight. albert mcduffy shot as he was trying to open a register for a robber. this crime caught on store surveillance. from his hospital bed, mcduffy described the moments after the shots rang out. >> can't believe he just shot me. i can't believe he shot me.

and didn't move fast enough. you know, stuff like this. it happens. i don't hatno, i am still here. i am in great spirits. just frying to get back on my feet. >> mcduffy paralyzed from the waist down and the suspect didn't leave with any money just a packet of mentos. he was arrested and charged.a fy wreck. is facing criminal charges. 18-year-old rico richardson was riding in a stolen car last month. an officer tried to stop the vehicle. the car slammed into a tree and burst into flames. the driver and two other passengers were killed. police arrested richardson today and charged him with theft. >> fairfax county high school students are learning a lesson about the dangers of guzzling down booze. they took part in a program at

herndon high that deals with binge drinking on college campuses. students watched "haze" and tells the story of a university of colorado freshman who died of alcohol poisoning while he was pledging a fraternity. they were told there is no safe amount. >> the important thing -- that i would like you to take away from this is not just about binge drinking. we talk about it all the time. there is no responsible underaged drinking. you can't teach a child to drink responsibly. a survey in fairfax shows 20 to 25% of high school students participate in binge drinking. they say that number rises to 50% in college. >> first time in sick years, case of mad cow disease has occurred in the u.s. the infected dairy cow discovered in california. secretary of agriculture quickly responded to the news saying the infected cow does not pose a risk to the food supply or human health. authorities believe the cow contracted the disease

some really incredible video out of china. going viral on the internet. a teenager fell through the sidewalk. the girl was on her cell phone at the time. she fell 20 feet down a hole. a cab driver saw it all and went to her rescue. he climbed down the hole and stayed with her until emergency crews arrived. not seriously injured. crews say water eroded the ground under the sidewalk and caused tight crumble. >> airport security is broken. that its the claim from former head of the transportation security administration. in a new book, kip holly says the tsa is too focused on that list of banned items. he says some things on that current list need to be allowed. so airport screeners can focus more on toxin as and explosives. holly says many practices put unplauin place after 9/11 may be updated

and said that agents should focus on behavior instead of appearance when they profile travelers. a big drug bust at dulles, chocolate and juice boxes seized with a little something extra inside. security finding four pound of cocaine stuffed inside a woman's luggage at dulles tonight. they say she is a legitimate currier from guatemala, flew in from el salvador and was immediately deported. the estimated street value of the cocaine $130,000. still trying to find the two dogs involved in a vicious attack in northeast d.c. it happened last friday on queen street. the trinidad area. it was recorded by a building surveillance camera. video ows two kids jumping on the roof of a car. trying to escape. the kids were not hurt. a man who tried to help suffered a serious bite on the hand and now being treat ford rabies. >> i went to the hospital yesterday to get -- my second rabies shot. and in the process my hand was

out there, take a look what is going on. i know the numbers are correct. current temperature. 54 after a high today of 64 degrees. it is going to be another chilly night across the region the we have seen a lot of chilly nights lately. weather pattern really shifting from where it was in early march. yes we have seen some warm days in the month of april too. but some cool days too. that's what we are going to see out there tonight. today, high temperature, 64. low of 42, third day in a row below average. that is the first time, really, there has been two times that it happened since february 1. how about that? so another, very cool streak out there. 54 degrees overnight. current temperature with wind out of the east at 3 miles an hour. still mild in the district. we still have a lot of cloud cover over the area. cloud will get out of here. we'll see the temperatures begin to cool. 41, winchester. 41, culpeper. 46 charlottesville. out there towards the chesapeake. at 57 degrees. over towards annapolis. you look at the numbers. you say that is not too cool.

once i mention the clouds leave. we will be able to cool quickly. that's why we have some new advisories. frost advisories, loudon, frederick, fculpeper, wincheste, west/southwest, luray, stanton, freeze warnings here for temperatures around the freezing mark overnight tonight. some people saying do we need to cover our plants? yes, if you live west of i-95. at least cover up the plants. some of you said you lost a couple things in the gardens from previous frost. the cloud cover right now. notice starting to clear out a little bit behind here. there is still cloud cover. even back to the west. we may stay on the cloudy part of things. partly cloudy. not going to allow us to cool down if we were clear. a little good news. a cool one tomorrow morning. take a look at the numbers. high temperature in denver. 88 degrees. billings, montana. 86 degrees, the high in miami was 77. you can steep where the cool air

is a long the east coast. the huge ridge out west. big trough in the east. i don't see this changing very much over the next couple days. the troughable mo will move up north. not quite as deep. it will still come through our area. temperatures will be around average or below average through the next week. get used to this cooler air. tomorrow, a nice day. we will see some sunshine. but then the clouds do move in. ahead of yet another storm system. this one -- looks like it could bring us a pretty good amount of rain too. half inch to an inch. at some locations during the day thursday. maybe a few thunderstorms. tomorrow morning, you know it is going to be little on the chilly side. temperatures, 33. some of the coldest suburbs. 43 in the city. going mostly clear skies tomorrow. some tear yaz will see cloud cover. chilly start. tomorrow afternoon. sunny. looking good. 65 to 70 degrees. the next couple days. 70, thursday. rain on thursday. and friday. 63. 62 on saturday. looking just wet on sunday.
