i was struck with an object. a frightening series of attacks in d.c. by someone with a hammer, and tonight one of the victims is telling his story to news4. good evening. i'm wendy rieger. a 19-year-old man is charged with that attack and another attack that left a young woman in the hospital. he was also suspected in three more assaults, including one that killed a tourist. we're live from the petworth neighborhood with new details

she learned from one victim. darcy? >> reporter: this victim is 58 years old, and he walks his little white dog named cocoa here in his neighborhood every day. and that's what he was doing thursday afternoon when he encountered this suspect, a young man. the young man said hello to him and he says he was suddenly hit on the head. this man is one of the victims in last week's hammer attacks in the petworth neighborhood of northwest washington. he was walking his dog, cocoa, last thursday afternoon in the 200 block of ingraham street when he said he encountered the suspect, 19-year-old michael davis. >> he walked by and he said, how you doing, sir, with a smile, and i said, how you doing? before i could turn to see where my dog is like i'm doing now, i was struck with an object. >> reporter: the victim was hit in the head. he fell on the sidewalk and was unconscious for several minutes. >> i still could see and i did

know whi -- didn't know which way he went or he got away quick. >> reporter: davis has been arrested in connection with this attack and with another attack that landed a little girl in the hospital. he is responsible for three more assaults, including one with a tourist from colorado. >> i got a good description of him, and all i can saycy hope they got the right man. >> reporter: the victim did not report this incident immediately. he did report tt next day after he learned about these other attacks. according to these documents, when police came out to the scene of the incident, they found a broken offhand he will of a hammer. so it's believed to be yet another one of these hammer attacks. the court documents also indicate that the victim was able to identify the suspect in a photo line-up. reporting live from northwest washington, darcy spencer, news4. another woman was hit with a hammer in d.c. today, but police have not said if this attack was

linked to the ones in petworth. a woman was hit at 1:00 this afternoon and was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. a triple stabbing occurred in annapolis overnight in the elks lodge. one of the victims is a security guard who was working at the party. police are warning women tonight bay series of sexual assaults in hiyattsville, maryland. there be been two reports on the westville trail. >> reporter: police say there are some similarities in these cases, but there's nothing concrete enough for them to tie them all together. on a picture perfect day, people are taking to the northwest brants trail in hyattsville, maryland to bike or walk.

it's the same trail where three women were all raped in the last month and a half. and the attackers are still on the loose. >> oh, my god. yeah, i heard about that. >> reporter: march 12, march 27 and april 20, dates in which police say the women were attacked during both daylight and evening hours. women we spoke with say that's what's most shocking. >> i'm scared here at 5:00 in the morning. i'm scared to walk on the bridge. >> these two composite sketches released by police describe a hispanic male in his late 20s or early 30s, about 160 pounds. the victims told police the man spoke spanish and used a kitchen knife to get them into the brush and raped them. but the most recent one describes an incident more than a week ago. he has hazel eyes, mid-20s, 170 to 190 pounds, medium to stocky

build with light hair and mustache, and this man bran d h brandished a gun before taking her into the brush and assaulting her. >> it feels fairly safe, but i do have to go to work, so there's not much you can do about it except be aware of your surroundings. >> reporter: police say they're stepping up their patrol and even partnering with other jurisdictions to help get the word out. authorities are also taping up flyers along the trail to help grow awareness. for now police are just recommending that any time you walk up and down these trails, make sure you do it in pairs or groups of people. in hyattsville, maryland, news4. four people were injured after an ambulance crash in clinton. we are told two medics and two civilians were injured, including a patient who was being transported. everyone is expected to be okay. we do have a crew heading to the scene. we'll bring you more as we get it. turning to the weather.

driver caused an accident involving a stroller in alexandra this afternoon. this was near the entrance to the hoffman movie theatre. her prius jumped the curb and hit a stroller, knocking them out of it. they were taken to the hospital as a precaution. surface-to-air missiles could be stationed on the top of apartment buildings in london to protect the olympic games. the british military says a block of apartments in east london has a perfect view of the park and the surrounding area. a leaflet was sent to those residents telling them missiles and soldiers would be sitting on their roofs for two months. the residents don't like this. they have protested this plan. they said they will only use the missiles in an extreme security threat. the duke and duchess, it's their first wedding anniversary today, and they're celebrating in public. it was a year ago when they had

it was out by 8:00 a.m. a beautiful sunday evening already in progress. a mostly clear sky overhead as we get ready to move toward sunset. sunset 7:59 tonight. that means tomorrow night sunsets starting 8:00 or later all the way past labor day, everybody. summer just around the corner. mostly clear skies and still right on the nose at 70 degrees here in washington. a nice breeze at 20 miles per hour, keeping a little light chill out there. 74 in charlottesville, 70 in winchester and culpepper, suburban maryland 65. gaithe gaithersburg right now. annapolis, 61 degrees. baywater temperature, 59. outside on radar, no drops in our immediate future. there are raindrops, though, in the forecast, a scattering of rain chances for tomorrow. i think tuesday may be our best chance for getting the showers

that we do still need this time of year. we're about 4.5 inches down in rainfall this time of the year. high pressure will bring us rain tonight and a chilly start tomorrow morning. upper 40s for most of the suburbs, so a two-blanket night for sure. a warm front moving our direction as it inches in tomorrow could scatter some showers, especially for you folks out west in the blue ridge, but rain chances exist just about everywhere tomorrow, only a 30% chance. as we get into tuesday, tuesday afternoon especially, that will be our best chance for rain as it goes along the mason dixon line and starts to dry out. temperatures, mid-60s at 7:00. back to the mid-50s by 11:00. and then overnight, still a chilly start to your monday morning. 37 to 45 the range. then for tomorrow a nice-looking start but we'll pick up some clouds by mid to late afternoon,

a 3-run walkup homer. they beat the orioles 5-2, and they take the series. the big test, the yankees in new york tomorrow. let's go to hockey down 1-0. the capitols hope to even it up with the rangers tomorrow. the caps, who are going for their first franchise stanley cup, so, of course, it doesn't hurt to check out a team that's won 27 championships. maybe some will rub off. yesterday was about missed opportunities in their loss, and at least that missed call, no penalty as johansson is taking down. that was a tough call. another bummer here. simmons shot on the cross bar. and the third one, mark green goes past the post. the caps couldn't get anything going on offense. they lose 3-1. >> there were times we had some

opportunities that we turned pucks so the good passes weren't made. that was the story of the game. we were just a little bit off. we weren't sharp on our passes, we were fanning on shots, stuff like that. little things that in the course of a 60 minutes in the playoff series against a good team, they're going to hurt you. we just got to be a little sharper. >> all right, they're ready to step it up. news out of college park. early this morning terps starting guard pichon howard was arrested and issued a citation for disorderly conduct. he was never taken into custody, he was just arrested and then released. the incident happened outside a route 1 cafe. police say a fight broke out. howard was not involved, but the police say he was shouting. nba playoffs, tony parker hosting the jazz. the number one seat of parker takes it inside. tim duncan will handle the rest. he just makes it look easy. take a look at that down below.
