will see police dogs and shot guns in the morning. >> a judge refused to drop charges against two brothers accused of beating a black teenager on neighborhood watch patrol in maryland. >> severe weather moving unto our west. doug will tell us when it is going to get here. but we begin with breaking news in atlanta. a huge fire broke out tonight at the tyler perry stud yoeiosstud. fire crews are still working. one building partially collapsed on the lot. in southwest atlanta. according to a captain with the atlanta fire department. so far nobody has been reported injured. tyler perry is an actor and movie mogul, named by "forbes" magazine as the highest paid man in entertainment last year. >> also following breaking news in the capital of afghanistan. the u.s. embassy is in the midst of a duck and cover. after several explosions and a shooting in kabul. afghan official reports three explosions just hours after president obama left that country. the president made the secret trip to mark one year since the

killing of osama bin laden. and a new path forward for u.s. troops in that area. steve handelsman reports. >> reporter: president obama spoke to america from the base in afghanistan where a year ago today, s.e.a.l. team 6 took off to kill osama bin laden on the president's orders. >> the goal that i set to defeat al qaeda and deny it a chance to rebuild is now within our reach. >> reporter: he met with u.s. troops and gave them credit. along with his aggressive drone campaign for killing 20 of bin laden's top 30 commanders. >> we have been able to decimate the ranks of al qaeda. and a year ago, we were able to finally bring osama bin laden to justice. >> reporter: the president had flown to afghanistan secretly overnight to sign a new 10-year treaty with afghan president

[ no audio ] >> reporter: he can't go on his personal life has become a distraction. he was hired as an adviser. he is openly game. conservative supporters took issue. he is taking more heat for some crude comments he tweeted about the appearance of prominent women. those women included newt gingrich's wife calista and secretary of state hillary clinton. the tweets were before his hiring. and have since been deleted. still, he feels the damage is done. and in a statement to "the washington post" he writes -- my ability to speak clearly and forcefully on the issues has been greatly diminished by the hyperpartisan discussion of personal issues that sometimes comes from a presidential campaign. romney's message to me that being openly game was a nonissue for him. mitt romney's campaign had this to say. we are disappointed that ric

but we don't want to see the severe weather. this yellow box in here through parts of west virginia. a tornado watch in effect until 1:00 if i do not think they will expect that to the eastable. i do think this rain will make its way over the mountains. i will show you when, how much of the rain will make its way over and if we see any severe weather in our forecast for tomorrow. >> charges will not be dropped in a baltimore trial that's drawing comparisons to the trayvon martin case. brothers were charged with assaulting 15-year-old who is black, a year and a half ago. the men were patrolling for a jewish neighborhood watch at the time. their lawyers say their clients acted in self defense. they asked for the charges to be dropped after the prosecution rested to day. but a judge said no. the defense starts laying out its case tomorrow. >> five murders in four days in the district. and the latest victim was a hospital technician who was stabbed after celebrating a job promotion at a bar on 14th street. 33-year-old dwayne brisbane was

a cat scan technician at washington hospital center. he was stabbed in an altercation on florida avenue on the way home from the celebration. he report lead tried to drive himself to the hospital, but crashed into a light pole. police are looking at security camera video in their search to find suspects. >> 80 people are out of homes tonight after a fast-moving fire in silver spring. it broke out this afternoon in a garden apartment complex along terrace drive. fire fighters say they found heavy flames on the second floor. the flames quickly spread to the attic and through the complex. up to 20 units were damaged or destroyed. two fire fighters were hurt. investigators are still trying to figure out how this started. >> some of the marchers celebrating may day turned rowdy as occupy protestors demanded economic justice. in seattle they smashed the windows of several major stores and banks. in oakland, california police used tear gas and tasers, on appropriate t

public offering as early as monday. it is widely speculated facebook could be valued at $100 billion. >> yankees all-star pitcher, andy pettite took the stand in the roger clemens trial. when the two were team mates. clemens admitted to using human growth hormone. clemens said that in his words, pettite mis-remembers the conversation. clemens is accused of lying during the 2008 congressional hearing on drug use in baseball. just owning a pit bull or even renting to a pit bull owner is ground for a possible lawsuit in maryland. a new appeals court ruling, declares pit bulls as a dangerous breed. that means owners are strictly liable for damages if their pet should attack some one. a landlord is liable if the attack happens on his or her property. behavior not breed should determine whether a dog is

little boys like to break things, crash them, blow them up. how about a plane? a 727? that's what producers at discovery channel did. they did it in the mexican desert. part of a documentary series called "curiosity." obviously no passengers on the plane. filled with crash test dummies and cameras. the crash was recorded inside the plane. on the ground. from other planes. and from the ejecting pilot's helmet. all to see the impact on the plane and the people inside when it crashes. that is really cool. >> tonight from a near-death experience to living a dream. a once-troubled teen, found the world of fashion and it saved his life. it wasn't until a tragedy rocked his high school and took the life of a classmate with the same interests that he got a second chance to make something

promised. i decided to turn my life around. >> have to see this one on m maggie. >> it led him to the fashion teacher. she was able to convince him to enter a contest. he didn't win, but it did change his life. sam had found his passion, but soon realized he couldn't afford it. he had no money for college. a way to pursue his career, but then -- a bizarre twist of fate. >> in 2007, sam's class mate, lydia petkov, a budding designer was one of four teens killed in a car crash. she had just graduated from west potomac hours earlier. lydia's father, richard says the family turned donations after lydia's death into a scholarship to help a student live the dream she never fulfilled. the student chosen was sam. >> still alive with me. she is going to be alive with --

we do need to see rain. so hopefully some rain to the west will come in here and give us much needed rainfall. out there right now. 69 degrees. winds are calm under partly cloudy skies. we'll continue to see temperatures on the mild side. all night. really going to be a warm night. 63 in leesburg. 64 in culpeper. still near 80, charlottesville. pax river coming in at 68 degrees. the radar, storm 4 radar. nothing to snow you around our region right now. once again the showers, thunderstorms are off to the west if i do moon juean just of the west. go, two hours, three hours along the road. pick them up. morganstown. west virginia. charleston area. close to elkins. see a lot of lightning associated with this. bigger storms back to the west. potential for flash flooding. seeing flood warnings here. once again the, the need is there for the rain. we need to see that rain come through. the mountains once again. will help to kill these, just a

little bit. i don't think they're going to make it in their entirety. i do thing we are going to see rain early tomorrow morning. here is what future weather forecast has for us along the frontal boundary. here come the showers. look at 5:00. when i expect them to come through. between, 4:00, 6:00 a.m. 4:00 to the west. 6:00 to the east. could be enough to give us rather wet roadways. give yourself a little bit of extra time tomorrow. frontal boundary. meanders around the region. chance of showers. strong thunderstorms during the day tomorrow. we could even see some severe weather. and then another chance of showers and continued warm. during the day on thursday. too. once again when you wake up tomorrow morning. good idea to take the umbrella with you. just in case. temperatures will be on the mild side. 56 to 262 degrees. tomorrow afternoon -- about a 50% chance of showers. some thunder, temperatures, 76 to 82 degrees. it will be rather warm and humid. that will be the trend over the next couple days. warm, humid, chance of showers. maybe thunderstorms, just about each day. i don't think we will see any of

a. >> a north dakota cat is back home with the family after undergoing surgery for a rare condition.

corky was born with his hind legs turned backwards and crisscrossed. the 7-month-old was talk in to a shelter where he learned to drag himself around. he was going to be put down. until a couple stepped in and donated money for the surgery. corky is learning to get away with one hind leg. vets say he likely won't jump but hope he can learn to climb like other cats. >> rough weather coming our way? >> out towards west virginia. big line of thunderstorms. now a new line out towards parts of ohio. big time thunderstorms, making their way our way. i do think the strongest should die down. i think we'll see rain early tomorrow morning. tune in.
