derrick ward has our report. >> reporter: violence at this gaithersburg apartment complex has been rare of late. >> it's a community. everyone gets along. i'm pretty shocked about this. >> reporter: but the kind of violence that transpired saturday everyoning is rare for any community and the kind that is hard for police. >> there was one altercation in the apartment. at one point, the father had decided to leave. as he was attempting to leave, there was another altercation between he and his son, matthew eugene price. it was then that he shot his son. >> reporter: the victim 23-year-old matthew eugene price was shot once in the chest in the third floor apartment. he sometimes shared the apartment with his father. after the shooting he staggered outside of the parking lot and collapsed with his father not far behind.

folks that live here say the father was unpleasant. he wore a uniform but often yelled at neighbors but said the son had a more pleasant attitude. the question is how things got so bad that one would kill the other a neighbor saild said the elder price seemed to be troubled. >> i think he had a problem for family or job. i don't know. >> reporter: price is due to be arraigned on first-degree murder charges on monday. derrick ward, news 4. a silver spring man is charged with stabbing his estranged wife to death. hector granddo is charged in the death of anna. she was killed outside of her home. he turned himself in to police a few hours later. records show the couple went to court over child support in 2001. he is expected in court for a bond hearing tomorrow afternoon. in prince georges county, the search is on for a driver

who hit man and left him dying in the street. it happened on the 2400 block of university boulevard and lewis dale, maryland. police say they arrived on the scene to find 28-year-old samuel diaz had been hit by a car that fled the scene. he was take on the the hospital but died a short time later. police are looking for a silver suv with front-end damage. there was no cross walk in the area. in the race for the white house, a new phase, mitt romney is looking for a running mate and president obama is officially back in campaign mode. wat launching his re-election efforts. >> reporter: kicking off his re-election bid this weekend in the battleground states of ohio and virginia, president obama took off the gloves and took on mitt romney. >> i don't care how many ways you try to explain it, corporations aren't people. people are people. disappointing jobs report and that's not good news for a president working to keep his job. on captiol hill, brian moore, news 4 virginia governor mcdonald campaigned with romney this past week. he is considered to be on the short list ff the vp pick francois ho francois hollande is the new french president. people were angry at his handling of the french economic crisis. it could change the way that europe d tackles the debt crisis. hollande faces more stimulus and fewer austerity measures. khalid shaikh mohammed and four other defendants trial could continue on for years. it is the beginning of a long process before trial gets underway at guantanamo bay. yesterday mohammad and the other defendants are fused to use the

court's translation system delaying the proceedings. the trial is supposed to start in play but both sides admit it is unlikely to happen. a day ruled by clouds and cooler temperatures. how long will it last? meteorologist check bell has the answer for us. >> good afternoon. plenty of cloud cover around the area for today. we could describe it as sunshine challenged. no doubt about that. the rain drops have stayed away for the most part. temperatures snuck up just over the 70 degree mark for much of the afternoon. 71 washington. 68 montgomery county. 70 fairfax. 70 prince georges county, as well and storm four radar shows one or two lonesome drops in the southern end of the shenandoah valley. can't rule out a stray drop or two but most of us will be dry in to the tuesday wednesday time frame. we will talk about that coming up. next on news 4 at 6:00 tonight, a u.s. soldier

a murder investigation at the site of the kentucky derby. police say a body was found on the grounds of churchill downs. a security guard found the man in a barn. i'll have another ran away with the victory. police don't think the victim was associated with churchill downs or the derby. there will be an autopsy tomorrow. an american soldier sevening in afghanistan collapsed and died while he was talking to his wife on sdiep. the wife says she saw a bullet hole in a closet behind him. captain bruce kevin clark show nod sign of discomfort before he collapsed on april 30th. the family said they kept the skype link open two hours while they tried to get him help.

the pentagon says they are investigating the cause of death. some sad news from the entertainment world. actor george lancecy passed away. for three decades tv viewers knew him as goober pyle. he played a service station attendant on the "andy griffith show." he played the same character on two other shows. he spent three years in the air force after a year of teaching. he died this morning in nashville. george lindsay was 83 years old. next tonight, a royal visit why prince harry is coming to d.c. tomorrow. we have seen some sun today. anymore for the prince on monday? meteorologist chuck bell has the workweek forecast. and tonight at 11:00, think i you are fighting spam? how to avoid a common mistake that could make your junk mail

lee. >> prince harry is receiving an award for his work with wounded service members he worked with a number of charities including walking with the wounded. it retains and re-educates veterans. he will also visit wounded vets at the british ambassadors residence. police in montgomery county are taking a new approach to cracking down on speeders. the county is starting a program it calls the corridor approach. instead of fixed locations for speed cameras on roads they will be using portable cameras and move them throughout. the idea is to create speed camera zones, rather than spots. >> the portable cameras will move throughout the corridor, thus they will always be in different places. rather than people looking for the camera what they should do is recognize the speed limit and

drive safe. >> police have identified 67 different roads in the county where they will deploy the program but will no longer announce exact locations of those cameras. thousands of people completed a 39-mile journey today. the tenth annual avon walk for breast cancer wrapped up on the national mall. 2200 people participated this the walk. it raised more than $5 million for breast canser cer research. welcome to the annual international children's festival. this year's event featured displays and presentations from 22 different countries, thanks to their embassies here in the district. the presentations included dance performances, food and kid-friendly crafts. >> some kids and their families who have never left washington, d.c. even can come and meet kids from turkey and albania and

a couple of sprinkles in the southern of the shenandoah valley. it is way west of the blue ridge and that's where they will be tomorrow. another slight dhans of a shower. in and around town tomorrow, i don't think we have to worry much. our next chance of rain is part of the next system which is going to the great lakes. there's a trailing cold front across the midwest. that arrives here late in the day on tuesday and that will spark off showers with some thundershower chances as well. for now high pressure is bringing that moisture, on-shore flow. a stable air mass that comes off the ocean, as well. just sprinkle chances in the high spots. that will gradually break down as we go through the day tomorrow and become a southerly component. it will bring a break of sunshine tomorrow and warm things up as well. the surge of warmth and humidity arrives tomorrow with the rain chance. spotty showers near 81 and that's it. for tomorrow morning, cloudy and drizzle to start off

in case you had any doubt the coach made it pretty clear today. >> i don't think anyone had any doubt. i think robert griffin was going to be the guy but just in case there was a question, mike shanahan wrapped up this weekend's rookie mini camp with a declaration. he told reporters robert griffin iii is the starter, period. doesn't get more black and white than that. the skins gave up two future number one draft picks, as well as a number two. so he will run with the first team in practices. in addition to griffin, there was a glimpse of other rookies. next up ot a's may 21st.

griffin was eager to get back to work, as in real work not just the showing off kind. >> this is what we do. it's been a while since we have been able to do football things. we have been doing come biens and beauty ba tents it is time to get to football. it felt good to get out here and do the things that you study on page on the paper and go out on the field and perform it. it was a lot of fun. >> you can see what an incredible athlete he is. i was impressed the first day we didn't have one bust with a formation or play call. i don't think i have ever had that in any mini camp i have been involved with. we know there is a lot that goes in to it through the ota's and coming back to the summer camp and preseason games but i look

forward to it. >> all right. the nationals, baseball now, they wanted to take back the park. they launched a campaign to keep phillies fans from infiltrating washington over the weekend and they drew fan fans the old-fashioned way by winning. tonight they go for a sweep over philadelphia. those in boston looking to sweep the red sox. life is pretty fast on the green monster apparently. j.j. gets ahold of one. look at that. over the green monster. over it. that was hardy's second homer of the game and only the third inning. 0s up 2-0. birds up 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth. bases loaded and the rookie, his first big league homer was a grand slam off of tommy hunter. tied game at five. welcome to the big leagues, young man. mark reynold has come alive. is it doubt out? off the wall. in center field.

adam jones comes around to core score and still in extra innings and they are tied at six. let's go to hockey. the capitals and rangers are even steven at two games a piece. a healthy nick back strom has been key. he was sidelined with a concussion but with one play it showed he's back. back strum, get off of me sends it behind the neck an the creeps in front of the goal past lundquist. back rum has six points in the postseason but that shoulder, that shows he's back in action. the caps players said they have seen the shove in practice and hopefully that concussion is a distant memory. he is strong on his feet.
