of delegates that hinged on sexual orientation of a prosecutor up for a judgeship. the debate was so controversial that 10 delegates claimed conflict of interest, 26 chose not to vote at all. wendy? >> bigotry, on the wrong side of history, that's how richmond's top prosecutor described the vote. denying his deputy a judicial appointment. he worked as a prosecutor in richmond for a dozen years and he is openly gay. in the 90s when he was in the military he denied the don't ask don't tell policy in a national tv interview. delegate bob marshall, a republican from manassas led the fight against the appointment. over the weekend. marshall said, he was an aggressive activist for the pro-homosexual jenagenda. it is the political actions and not the fact that he is gay that makes him unable to judge others

>> a tragic accident in maryland today. a 3-year-old boy is dead after slipping out of his car seat when his mother braid a brief stop. jackie benson reports from waldorf. >> on sugar berry street in waldorf at 2:00 the worst happened. tony marshall walking on crutches says she saw a woman in a gray car lean out the driver's window to hand letters to the mailman and exchange words. marshall noticed an suv from the opposite direction. at the exact same moment, the woman's 3-year-old son unbuckled the seat restraint and jumped out of the car. >> i could just hear, he ran over. i was praying it wasn't the little boy. but then -- when -- when the driver of the suv got out, he was screaming. she didn't realize her son had got out of the car. she never knew he got out. so -- she was still talking to the

$9,200 plane ticket to prague, three dinner bills that totaled $4,800 in hawaii. the report also says one board member is related to an employee at a law firm. the firm got $100,000 contract with mwaa. the board's director says the group is committed to addressing the issues raised by the audit and will do whatever necessary to ensure accountability. >> congress says it will take a deeper look at $2 billion trading loss by jp morgan chase. the house financial services committee will hold a hearing on the matter. no date has been set for that. earlier today the department of justice announced it would investigate. the bank's ceo jamie dimon faced share hoede shareholders. he survived an attempt to strip him of title chairman of the board. >> run to the store for milk turned out to be the best move a retired waitress ever made. and she is not the only one few hit the jackpot. prince william county, virginia

start college plans for her seven grandkids. mary will buy smoky dog treats. pay her bills. >> might go on a trip. >> she has time to decide. shomari stone, news 4. >> news for your health. u.s. government stepping up efforts to fight alzheimers disease. the government's pumping millions into two clinical trials in hopes of preventing or slowing the disease. currently more nan 5 million americans suffer from alzheimers. the federal government fears it will overwhelm, the health and social services by 2050. by then expected that 16 million people will battle alzheimers costing more than trillion a year to treat. >> kate edwards expected to take the stand tomorrow. in the trial of her father in north carolina. john edwards is facing six criminal counts of campaign finance violation, all stemming from his 2008 presidential run.

the prosecution says edwards used campaign money to cover up an affair and child that he had with a woman named riell hunter. if he is convicted, edwards could get 30 years in prison. >> d.c. ward five has a new council member, kenyan mcduffie. mcduffie beat ten candidates with 44% of the vote. delano hunter. 20%. frank wilds. 14%. >> police tonight told dozens of frustrated residents they're doing everything to find the person who attacked a man over a beer can. it happened last thursday near 14th and w streets northwest. the victim beat sewnsewn -- bea so badly. residents want quicker action and better notification of crimes. >> protests included bull horns and cake today.

100 people gathered in downtown washington to show how upset they are about a proposal for a 4% rate hike. some smeared cake on the logo and doors while others climbed the awnings above the entrance. pepco says it needs the hike to replace equipment, improve reliability and prepare for future customer growth. >> pardon me, the former head of the international monetary fund is fighting back against a maid who accused him of sexual assault. dominique strauss-kahn filed a $1 million lawsuit in new york. strauss-kahn said the claims were malicious and wanton and cost him his job. strauss-kahn was arrested nearly a year ago in new york but all the charges were later dropped for lack of evidence. he is also accused of raping a belgian prostitute at a hotel here in washington. >> flight restrictions in place for stealth f-22 fighter jets

down through the leonardtown area. zinl the zoom in there. leonardtown. waldorf. intense rain here too. all night long. waldorf. hughesville. prince, frederick. and you go down south. leonardtown. lexington park. chesapeake ranch. heavy rain. and still seeing a ton of lightning in this area. you are probably going to seep it for, about the next half-hour to an hour. as the the storms are not moving very fast. any time soon. now, how much rain hatch we seen from these? at times they were dropping 1 to 2 inches per hour. over the last two days, we have seen about an inch and a half. towards northern montgomery county. that its damascus. 1.3 inches. inch and a half around the d.c. area. look at fredericksburg. most from today. 4 inches of rain with the loin that we showed you earlier at 6:00. head over to st. mary's county. again. nearly four inches of rain. i did see some reports. doppler radar estimates.
