metro bus drivers, who are like all of us faced with an increasing amount of bad behavior by motorists. they report and dashboard cameras confirm they're getting cut off dozens of times a day by people who are driving too aggressively. but doing this to a bus is much more dangerous than cutting in front of a car. >> a normal vehicle, a car i think weighs 3,000, maybe 4,000 pounds. a bus is closer to 30,000 pounds. it's just that extra weight, that extra momentum that the bus has to go through to stop. >> reporter: cutting off a metro bus causes risk not only to the driver but to passengers on the bus. >> the passengers do not have seat belts on. so there's going to be movement within the bus with the sudden stop that either is an accident or a near accident that the operators are trying to avoid. >> reporter: metro bus drivers put in countless hours of training. but if they're involved in an accident even if it is not their fault it still goes on their record. reporting from northwest washington, jackie bentsen, news 4. tonight house and senate offices are being locked up tight on capitol hill after a

series of burglaries. police say thieves have hit several house offices over the last few weeks. they took computers, electronics, cash, and some historical documents. investigators say the thefts have not threatened national security. police have not named the lawmakers where the office break-ins happened. >> for the second time this year supreme court justice stephen breyer is the victim of crime. somebody broke into his house in georgetown while he was out of town earlier this month. according to the police report, the thief took silver candles and other silverware worth $3,000. back in february a man with a machete robbed breyer and his wife inside a vacation home in the caribbean. drugs, the gun, and the first pictures of george zimmerman's injuries. tonight legal experts are scouring hundreds of pages of evidence released in the trayvon martin case. what's not yet clear is what it all means. nbc's kurt gregory reports. >> reporter: more than 180 pages

of documents, witness statements, and photographs were released late thursday by special prosecutor angela corey's office. evidence the state says supports their charges against george zimmerman. among the pages, never-before-seen photos of injuries allegedly sustained by the 28-year-old zimmerman during his confrontation with trayvon martin and images of the scene where the shooting took place on february 26th. zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder but has pleaded not guilty under florida's stand your ground law. also within the documents are reports from investigators including one that describes an interview with martin's father, tracy martin, two days after his son's death. the investigator reported, "i asked mr. martin if the voice calling for help was that of his son. mr. martin clearly, emotionally impacted by the recording, quietly responded, no." martin's mother, sabrina fulton, has insisted that the screams

audible on recorded 911 calls are that of her son. also among the documents, the medical examiner's report, which states the teenager was killed by a gunshot to the heart. toxicology tests performed found that martin had thc, the active ingredient of marijuana, in his bloodstream. >> whether or not he smoked a joint a week before, it does not matter. this was an unarmed teenager in a place he had every right to be who was confronted by a man with a 9-millimeter gun. >> reporter: pages upon pages of evidence. in a case that has held the nation's attention for months. kurt gregory, nbc news. jury deliberations begin tomorrow in the john edwards corruption trial. earlier today prosecutors and defense lawyers gave their closing arguments. prosecutors accused edwards of knowingly using campaign donations to cover up an affair with rielle hunter. defense lawyers say edwards did not knowingly do anything

illegal. edwards sfasing ings facing ups in prison if he's convicted. there's a dress code controversy unfolding at one school in maryland. it centers on a boy who was suspended for wearing girls' clothing. the boy says he's being unfairly targeted and some parents agree. shomari stone reports from calvert county. >> i'm just angry. >> reporter: high heels, a miniskirt, and a black wig landed warren evans in controversy at calvert high school in southern maryland. the school suspended him for a dress code violation. >> i feel annoyed that they would go out of their way to make it a problem. just with me wearing a skirt. >> it's not right. it is not right. >> but they didn't complain about it then. >> reporter: parents get in a heated debate about the suspension after school. ♪ warren is openly bisexual and says the school discriminated against him. he says boys should be allowed to wear skirts and high heels just like girls. but the school says you're violating the dress code by the way you're dressed. >> i don't think so.

>> why not? >> it didn't say anywhere in the code of conductors in our dress code or anything, that boys can't dress like girls. >> reporter: the district's dress code policy states schools can regulate dress or hair length. students told me girls wear skirts the same length as warren and nothing happens. >> i think they was just using the skirt as an excuse. >> reporter: school officials won't comment on the suspension. they say that the dress code applies to all students regardless of gender. some parents say that it's a distraction for their kids when a boy dresses like a girl in the classroom. warren's father disagrees. >> where some people just aren't tolerant with that kind of thing. >> reporter: next for warren, what will he wear to prom on saturday? in calvert county, i'm shomari stone, news 4. in the largest corruption scheme ever involving federal contractors, there is tonight a guilty plea from the ring leader, a man named cary khan from alexandria. prosecutors say the scheme

involved at least $30 million in bribes and kickbacks. kahn was a contractor for the affirmy corps of engineers at the time. the money was apparently used on homes, cars, and several mistresses. he's facing 35 years in prison. take a look at these police-enhanced surveillance photos. recognize that guy? police say he's wanted for severely beating a man in broad daylight after an argument over a beer can. a camera captured the attack at 14th and w streets earlier this month. the man was beaten so badly that his jaw had to be wired shut. right now there's a bill in congress that would ban some abortions in the district. arizona congressman trent franks introduced the measure that would make abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy illegal in d.c. it's based on disputed research that claims fetuses can feel pain at 20 weeks. opponents say the bill is unconstitutional and it intrudes on home rule. the bill is not expected to pass this year. for the first time ever there are more babies of minority races being born in the

u.s. than caucasian babies. between 2010 and 2011 the number of white babies dropped below 50%. hispanic babies account for the biggest increase. this is nothing new in maryland, where minority births have been the majority for more than a decade. >> here at holy cross our deliveries increased probably five times that rate. so we are actually leading the nation in this demographic change. and you know, we've been learning a lot about how to deliver culturally competent care. >> the overall u.s. population remains predominantly white except in four states and the district, where minorities make up the majority. tonight president obama is among millions of fans remembering donna summer as the queen of disco. ♪ so let's dance ♪ the last dance summer died today from lung cancer. she had kept her illness quiet. throughout her career she had 19 number one dance hits and won

five grammy awards. in a statement tonight the president said her voice was unforgettable and the music industry has lost a legend far too soon. donna summer was only 63 years old. we're less than ten hours away now from facebook's debut on the stock market. the social network's initial public offering will place the company's value at $104 billion. facebook is pricing its stock at $38 per share. the ipo will make ceo mark zuckerberg the 29th richest person in the world. and a small share he gave his father as a gift in 2009, well, that will be worth 76 million now. google's self-driving car was on the streets of d.c. today. it's a fully automated vehicle that uses gps, motion sensors, and radar technology to get around. right now it is licensed only in nevada. board 3 council member mary chase is impressed with the car safety record. she hopes it can get approval to

oregon will be back on the job soon. a news helicopter camera caught this plunge through the roof while he was fighting a two-alarm fire yesterday. firefighters say i fell only about four feet, landed on some rafters. he was able to get out of that building unharmed. betty white's still got it. fresh off the renewal of her show "off their rockers" here on nbc. white played to a packed house at the lizzer auditorium in washington. later she sat down with wendy rieger. how was it? >> i have the picture on facebook. i'm e-mailing it to anyone who's said hello to me. this definitely was an omg moment for everyone in that audience tonight. because to be around betty, and she wants you to call her betty-s really like a dream come true. she's got a new book out called "betty and friends: my life at the zoo." and she has a date tomorrow with the animals at the national zoo as she promotes her lifelong passion, which is animal

it's going to be priecht just her and the animals. but i had everyone giving me sign her for my daughter, sign this, sign that, and then after she did that i said and one more thing, and i leaped over and grabbed her and said i need to have my picture taken with you. she was really great. she was really a wonderful, wonderful woman. so we're lucky to have her here. >> doug's here with a check on our weather. so nice out there today and tonight too. >> you know, just about as good as our weather gets in this area. it was absolutely spectacular outside today. and i think we're going to see a very similar day tomorrow, maybe a little bit less of the breeze that we saw out there today. but that breeze really helped. the high temperatures today in the 70s. all across the area. and again with that light breeze and very low humidity this thursday was one to remember. high temperature today got up to 77 degrees. the average high temperature is 75. so a little bit above average today. and we have seen a lot of rain this month. monthly rainfall right now at 2.36 inches. that's the highest monthly total in about the last five or six months. saw a lot in december and then

next couple of days. so first off, a terrific evening tonight and a terrific night tonight sponsored by high pressure across the area. here comes an area of sunshine tomorrow. more sunshine. another nice warm day. but we're going to watch that area of low pressure. it's not going to come in during the day on saturday. so if you have any plans this weekend, no worries. especially saturday. sunday, however, we're going to watch this area of low pressure creep up toward the north. and the rain is going to try to creep up to the north, too. i think sunday will be dry. but i do expect to see at least some shower activity on monday into tuesday as this coastal low moves up toward the north. coastal low, yes. weak, that's the biggest thing, though. it will be very weak. i'm not expecting much from this storm. just some shower activity monday and into tuesday as i mentioned. tomorrow morning a cool start in some areas. jacket weather again. temperatures 54 to 56 in the city. but some areas in the upper 40s when you wake up tomorrow. then a cool afternoon or rather a nice afternoon with plenty of sunshine. and i'm just calling it fantastic. 72 to 76 degrees. and here's what's happening down
