help a one-year-old child and her family as they fight one of the rarest forms of cancer. >> what happened to facebook, a rocky first day for the internet darling on nasdaq. >> we begin with breaking news in northwest washington. one person is dead after a stabbing on north call ole street. they tell us the man was stabbed multiple times in the head and chest about an hour ago. it happened outside the tyler house apartments near new york aven avenue. to a shooting a a metro station. it is not clear what led to the gun fire. with two teenagers hit people are shaken up. >> reporter: a second suspect was arrested this evening. he is also a teenager, the apparent motive was an on going dispute. >> by nightfall there was still a heavy police presentation at the rockville metro station, heightened security after two people were shot here hours earlier. >> we heard pop, pop, pop, pop,

about four or five shots and i knew it was gunshots, and there was a young kid about 14 behind me. i grabbed him, and we ran behind the booth and we hid behind there, and there were a couple more shots, and then somebody yelled it was okay and we went out and the boy was bleeding, just blood everywhere. it was awful. >> it happened about 2:30 p.m., a 16-year-old young man was shot at least once and seriously injured. an 18-year-old woman coming home from work was grazed in the leg as a stray bullet tore a gash across her skirt. city of rockville, montgomery county, and metro transit police officers fanned out in an intense search for the suspect. he was arrested eight minutes after the shooting at a gas station a few blocks away. major tim marsh of rockville city police confirms a gun believed to be the one used in the shooting was recovered. >> the shooter and the primary victim are known to one another.

players vernon and vontay davis and the next hearing is scheduled for july. an eyewitness in the trayvon martin story changed his story. witness number 6 initially told police he heard george zimmerman screaming for help during the deadly con can fron station with martin on february 26th. date line has confirmed reports that the witness later told state police he saw martin on top of zimmerman but he wasn't sure who was screaming. the amended account is not part of the mountain of evidence released to the public this week. eight leader from around the world are spending the night in maryland. president obama wants the g-8 summit at camp david to focus on europe's economic troubles. he says solving greece's debt crisis to crucial to the u.s. and world economy. protesters looking to get the attention of the g-8 took to the streets of frederick maryland today and it is the biggest city near camp david and many shops

is battling a rare form of liver cancer. she is that 1 in a million. >> she is very, very sick. whether she is vomiting or just has terrible mouth and sores that line her esophagus. >> reporter: gianna had a buy opposite three months ago and they found the cancer spread from her liver to her lung and she has to take all of this medicine 25 times a day to survive along with undergoing chemotherapy in philadelphia. >> it is very, very difficult. >> reporter: xiu san had to stop working as a teacher adding to the family's financial strain. >> it is amazing how quickly everything adds up between all the visits and going to the clinic two and three times a week. >> reporter: as you can see the hess family is having an uncertain financial future. you can help gianna by going to the 5 k run hosted by the joe cosella foundation. around 800 people already signed up. they're expecting at least 1,000. >> the foundation was started

the rain will hold off through sunday and into monday but by monday here comes the rain. we'll talk more about this system and the rest of the weekend coming up. >> thanks. under womening is the world many analysts are using to describe facebook's first day as a publicly traded company. >> the media giant did break records today. it didn't break the high expectations for its wall street debut. today $16 billion ipo was the third largest in history, and it set a record for the most number of shares traded on a stock's first day. all of that volume overwhelmed trading websites after the opening bell. nasdaq had tested these systems all week to prepare, but it could not handle the chaos. >> you imagine there was only one theater showing the avengers over the past week and everybody was trying to get in the narrow doors and waving their tickets

around and trying to make sure there is not the equivalent of a stock market riot as people try to get into the stock. >> so that glitch, it left a lot of traders unsure of just what they purchased or sold and it may have dampened interest in facebook stock. by the end of the day it closed only 23 cents higher than the $38 per share opening price. analysts say it will take more time to see if facebook turns out to be a good investment but for now the ipo made facebook more valuable than mcdonald's, not a bad thing, and has taken zuckerberg from a student to a ceo with a $19 billion stake in his company. >> jurors in the john edwards corruption trial will go back to work on monday morning. the panel failed to reach a verdict after a day of deliberations. they must decide whether edwards knowingly used campaign money to hide his pregnant mistress in 2008. if he is convicted edwards could get 30 years in prison. an airline pilot from virginia is facing charges after security

officials found a gun in his bag. 52-year-old brett dieter was arrested in buffalo today as he was getting ready to pilot a plane to new york city. they believe he started traveling with the gun on wednesday when he left the airport in charlottesville and say he may have taken it on as many as seven flights. he works for piedmont airlines, a suck acidary of u.s. airways. a local brewery has taken down a beer ad featuring marion bailey. the flying dog brewery made this poster with the words crack one open, d.c. it promotes a release party for the first canned beer and also pokes fun at barry's 1990 drug arrest and his daughter told th lawyer told them to take it down because they did not have permission to use his photograph. the neighborhood is turning into a big bird bathroom. not talking a few birds here, a

georgetown is a jest with it the archdiocese is criticizing the university and the church is upset about the obama administration's requirement to cover birth control. >> george mason university's graduation also the scene of some drama today. campus police arrested a woman for ignoring officers when they told her to stop letting people into the ceremony. the patriot center was filled to capacity and more than 100 people had to wait outside during today's ceremony. gmu said goodbye to president allen wurtoo crediting with tripling the number of applicants in his 16 years at the school. >> a man that had a dangerous run in with an alligator explained what went wrong and what he was thinking. >> people lined up for blocks. we'll hear from the bravo star some people waited seven hours to meet here in our area today. >> also, we'll tell you what got ♪

not his best work, how an aquarium worker sdriebtd a recent encounter with an alligator. he had it was in somebody's front yard and right beside a busy road in north carolina as he tried to maneuver closer and he slipped and the gator caught him on the arm. boyce explained what went wrong on "the today show" this morning. >> i think i lost my footing there in the ditch. it was a little slippery, and i kind of lost my footing before i even kind of fell down and sort of put my hands on it sooner

than i meant to, and it jumped around and it was a little out of my size range to be doing by myself, and i was kind of hoping that somebody else might jump on the back behind me but apparently they didn't like that idea too much. >> no. >> wildlife officials eventually captured the gator and released it back into the wild. boyce was treated for minor injuries and major embarrassment. we have an update tonight on a story that touched a lot of our viewers about a former d.c. teacher and principal who ended up homeless. her name is carol doser and she suffered a series of health problem from a car accident and severe allergies and that led to her losing her job and her home. she was sleeping on the streets when we met her last year. hundreds of viewers offered help including some of her former co-worker who is took her in. she now has disability benefits and a small apartment in southwest d.c. and not much else. she says she is slowly changing

her outlook on life. >> and whether i am living on the streets, sleeping on somebody's couch, hiding out in a church, or working for the d.c. government, fighting for the rights of children, i am a human being. i matter. >> now that she has a roof over her head she says she is going to get legal help and counseling before she begins a job search. >> one of the newest kings of cable tv created a stir tonight. fans of bravo host andy cohen started lining up at 9:00 this morning. he was here for a fashion show and book signing. cohen is an executive behind the "real housewives" and "top chef" series and his box chronicles his fairy tale at that rear. he spent 28 years in television and only the last five in front of the camera. he says his show watch what happens is popular because it is not scripted. andy cohen's book is called

"most talkative." you were out there for that, part of that tonight. it was kind of a scene in we thes da. >> yeah, real big scene but it was a great flight to be out and about. the weather has been perfect, and i think a lot of people staying a lot longer than they would normally to enjoy the weather. take a look outside right now and we'll show you how it is trending across the area. temperatures are in the 60s and into the upper 50s. starting to cool off as we talked about earlier and some areas will see a fairly cool night tonight and not bad at all. 76 degrees the high temperature today and out at the airport and that is the average high and, yes, a great day and, yes, there are more great days to come. at least two, i think. high temperatures across the region, 77, 71 in culpepper and 73 fredericksburg and cambridge 73. 63, clear skies, sun has gone down, winds out of the southeast now. calm. those winds are calm. they will stay calm through the

night tonight. that's going to allow temperatures to fall, down to 55 in winchester and 52 in culpepper, and 63 in the district. a cool start tomorrow and when the sun comes up and it comes up before 6:00 we'll see a quick rise in the temperatures. here is a system, an area of low pressure. if this was a mid-august or september, we would be talking about potential tropical system. this is not tropical right now and you can see the trough just off the coast and we're going to be watching that one closely over the next couple of days. tomorrow i think still plenty of sunshine and nice and warm and area of low pressure slowly moving back towards shore. on sunday it moves a little bit farther in and we'll see our northeasterly winds during the day and a few more clouds on sunday and the rain i think stays well to our south so sunday will be dry, too. then on monday as this little area of low pressure continues to move back to the west, we are going to see the clouds move in and we'll see the cooler weather

move in and we'll see our chance for showers increase on monday and it will stick around, too. if you're going down to the beaches, maybe ocean city, virginia beach, expect cooler temperatures and expect rather breezy conditions and winds upwards of 15 to 20, maybe 30 miles an hour over there, so make sure you take a sweater or light jacket. a few high clouds tomorrow morning, a great start and warming quickly. 46 to 55 degrees and tomorrow morning we'll start off warming up as a mentioned quickly and warming up into the upper 70s to low 80s and call it 76 to 82 and another nice one out there and get out and enjoy it with winds out of the northeast at 10 to 15. if you think of head to the air show, a very nice day for that as we are going to key the blue angels, the golden nights, all during the day, mostly sunny and great tomorrow and sunday also looking very, very good and here is the next couple of days showing 79 on sunday, 73 on monday, and cooler with a chance of showers and right now it looks like showers tuesday, wednesday, and thursday, too, so

sixers record back and evened that series now at two games a piece. kevin garnett getting ready, ain't feeling real friendly towards the camera. get out of here. his team, they came out on fire, folks. paul pierce knocking down three and 9-0 run to start the game and celts jump on top 20-5 in the first eight minutes. now turn around to the fourth corner and pierce turned it out and turner head of the pack, jam, under 45 seconds to go and philly with the ball and up by 2 and andre for three and, oh, my goodness, that's playoff basketball. sixers out score the celts 61-37 in the second half and win 92-83. series even at two games a piece. wouldn't it be nice to have playoff basketball in d.c.? reminder, preakness stakes can be seen tomorrow on nbc 4 and post time is at 6:18 p.m.
