plot. a foiled attack on chicago police, the city's mayor and president obama. i'll have another lives up to his name. he's won the kentucky derby and now the preakness stakes. could we see a triple crown winner? we begin tonight in prince georges county, where police say they have the man responsible for two sexual assaults earlier this year. and they say they may be able to connect him to even more attacks. news 4's darcie spencer has our story. >> edwin xavier rivas, charged in two sex aamounts and more charges could be filed. he's accused of raping a woman on buchanan street in the queens town apartments january 28th. the victim told police she was walking here around 2:30 in the morning when a man grabbed her from behind and dragged her into

some bushes. that's where he sexually assaulted her at knife point. the attack has had the community on edge for months. >> this is a high crime area. this is nothing that's new or uncommon here in this area. we just all try to take the necessary steps to make sure that our family and friends and everyone will be okay. >> rivas is charged with another sex assault in hyattsville. police tell news 4 he's being investigated as a possible suspect in a series of sex assaults that happened near the west hyattsville metro. some of them were at knife point. >> this is potentially a serial rapist. >> we know for two for sure he's responsible for. there's a possibility he's a serial rapist. we don't know at this point. >> police have mounted a safety campaign posting flyers about these attacks all along the trail. and warning women to walk in pairs. many are hoping with this

arrest, the community will be safer. >> if this is the guy that has done this. then we have taken a predator off the street. >> reporter: darcie spencer, news 4. >> it's being called a sophisticated terror plot. three men are accused of planning attacks ahead of tomorrow's nato summit. police say they wanted to bomb president obama's campaign headquarters in chicago. but their lawyers say it was a setup. phil rogers had a the latest. the alleged plot was happened here, a three flat near the corner of 32nd and morgan. accused in a plot to firebomb among other things, president obama's campaign headquarters, chicago police headquarters and even mayor emmanuel's home on the north side. >> these individuals charged today are self-proclaimed anarchists. >> reporter: ania alvarez alleges the three were engaged

in a sophisticated plot. they already purchased gasoline at this station. the bomb making efforts were well underway. >> defendant church at one point asked his codefendant it is they had ever seen a cop on fire. >> reporter: in court the state asked that the three be held on $5 million bond. the judge set the bond at $1.5 million a piece ap afterwards defense lawyers cried foul. >> we believe it is a setup, entrapment to the highest degree. >> reporter: the the attorney believes their inner circle was infiltrated. >> plans to attack the police station, the mayor's office is all coming from the mind of the police informants. >> reporter: the charges against the three are first test of a new state anti-terror law.

investigators insist the plot was very big. >> they weren't going to trick or treat, let's put it that way. >> president obama and other world leaders are already in chicago for the nato talks. they arrived tonight after wrapping up the g-8 summit at camp david. crowds met police in riot gear in thurmond today. there were no arrests or violence. g8 world with leaders had few conflicts. they agreed to promote growth in europe. the american economy depends on it. >> put simply, if a company is forced to cut back that may mean less business for pittsburgh or milwaukee. >> the leaders threatened sanctions on iran if it continues its nuclear program. a major development in the gay marriage battle. the naacp passed a resolution

calling gay marriage a civil right. this comes two weeks after president obama says he supports same sex marriages. traditionally the issue has divided the black community. prince georges county churches have led the opposition to same sex issues in maryland. gay marriage is already legal in d.c. and six states. a failed engine valve appears to be responsible for the scrubbed launch of a space x rocket this morning in florida. the private company attempted to large the rocket to bring supplies to the international space station. computers shut down the engines at the last second. nasa wants to use space x now that the shuttle program is retired. the next launch attempt could be tuesday. turning to the weather now, it

is quiet for now, but chuck bell is tracking the first tropical storm of the season. >> hurricane season doesn't officially start until june 1st. mother nature just a little bit ahead of schedule. it's a beautiful clear night here in the washington area. temperatures dropping into the 60s and most of the western suburbs, even a few 50s starting to show up on the map. no rain in our immediate future p.m. there will be rain chances coming our way starting late tomorrow. there is tropical storm alberto off the coast of south carolina. i'll talk about where it's expected to go over the next couple days and give you our seven-day forecast. a traffic alert, if you travel the beltway in virginia, the outer loop is currently closed at raddic road. vdot shut the highway down to work on the expressway with project overnight. the outer loop will reopen by 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. coming up, the man who wants

u.s. soil. he escaped from his house and took refuge at the u.s. embassy. the chinese government allowed him to come to the us to study at law school. a tennessee man is going to court for help paying child support for his 30 kids. he's just 33 years old, his youngest children are toddlers, the oldest is 14. hatchet has fathered children with 11 different women. he wants the court to lower his child support payments. says he makes minimum wage. some of his children's mothers only get $1.49 a month. flee horses that were mysteriously slashed last month are doing better. one with of the horses has fully recovered. the other two are still healing because they're active and their wounds keep opening up.

demonstrations and performances. it continues tomorrow from 8:00 to 5:00. facebook founder and ceo mark zuckerberg made a big update to his facebook status today. he posted an update to his time line that he's now married. he wed priscilla chen at a ceremony at his home in palo alto, today. the ceremony caps off a busy week for zucker are burg. chen graduated from medical school monday. the couple met at harvard and have been together for more than nine years. flavored vodkas are shaking up or stirring up the drinking world. some liquor store develops are packed with more than 50 different flavors of vodka. there's sweet from cherry to raspberry, then there's the savory, like bacon and peanut butter. >> i think it's a bartender that

withing. for now, high pressure in charge of our weather, and there's an area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere as well. that's the one that's going to come in here tomorrow, bring in the clouds and rain chances as early as 6:00 tomorrow night. there's a chance for light raindrops, southern maryland. most of us get our first drops around midnight tomorrow night. and expect a showery day coming up on sunday. alberto by tuesday, off the coast of the outer banks of north carolina. but it's going away from the coastlines. as long as it's that close to virginia beach and may provide us with some shower chances about wednesday. high clouds for now. clear skies for now. a few high clouds coming in by morning. 40s in the cool spots to near 60 bayside. on the whole, i think it's going to be a pretty day. clouds will be increasing. chances for light sprinkles late in the day. there's the all important
