they're now 4 bucks instead of 2. $50. aaa says the key to a peaceful ride is to hit the road during off peak hours. and more people will be traveling this year than last because gas prices are down. right now, the average price for a gallon of regular in the district is $3.76. in maryland, it's 3 b$3.64. prices at the pump have been falling for the past seven weekses in a row, down about 40 cents there their highs in early april. not everyone is heading out of town for the weekend, though. derrick ward joins us live from bell haven marina with more on what's going on around here. >> reporter: well, as you said, a lot of people are indeed getting out. and finding modes of transportation either on the roadways because of those lower gas prices or on the boats. key thing is to find your own unique way to observe it.

iphone. but according to these court documents, one woman took to a whole new level. >> i keep it zipped up right in here. >> i keep it tight in my hand or in my pocket. >> reporter: what do you do to keep someone from stealing your iphone? >> nobody's going to steal an iphone. it's all about the guns. >> reporter: it's no secret that iphone thefts are a big problem in our city. above and below ground. thieves take them out of your bag. snatch them out of your hand. you set your iphone down in the wrong place, and there's a good chance you'll be using someone else's phone to call 911. what happened here at 14th and park wood place northwest takes the cake. police say a woman used her 6-year-old son, her 6-year-old son, to steal an iphone. but i'm getting way ahead of this story. police have tried all sorts of

things to curtail iphone thefts. metro transit police have used decoys down under and when the crook grabs the phone, the cops grab the crook. that's what d.c. police did wednesday afternoon they had an undercover officer here pretending to be asleep with his right hand next to his iphone. they say the woman comes along with her 6-year-old son and tells the little boy to grab the iphone and grab the iphone he did. the woman, that young and the stolen iphone continue up 14th street. they turn around and seat undercover officer is getting up, they drop the phone but it's tight later on cops move in and make the arrest. stealing an iphone is one thing. using a 6-year-old boy to do it --

miami from mondjamaica. ryan snyder got up and started moving swiftly toward the cockpit. passengers jumped in to action to help the crew keep snyder away from the cockpit door. the plane made it safely to the gate and smi dnyder was arreste. snyder was not on the no fly list. he'll face a judge next would he be. arraignment for the man charged with murdering a 6-year-old has been delayed. etan patients oig vanished while walking to the bus top 33 years ago today. police say 51-year-old pedro hernandez confessed to luring the child into a building, choking him, and dumping his body in the trash. hernandez is currently in the hospital and is on suicide watch. so the court proceedings have been delayed and will happen from his bedside. hernandez reportedly gave details of what happened the day patz disappeared. >> hernandez described to the detectives how he lured young etan from the school bus stop at

space x dragon capsule docked late this morning. the privately owned spacecraft is dropping off 1,000 pounsd of supplies. this is the first commercial venture for nasa which ended its shuttle program last year. tom, how has this mission gone so far? >> reporter: the mission has been nearly flawless. a couple of minor technical glichls as th glitches, but they were resolved. i think this will go down as one of the most important days in history. not as important as the first landing on the moon of course, but the bottom line is nasa today had a paradigm shift. the commercial sector starting to take over missions to the space staying ation and eventuae hope is manned missions. and what's really amazing is that this up start company only ten years old and founded by a now 40-year-old was the first to get it, the first it get to the station lead, beating out
