temperatures very comfortable. how about middle 70s? i'll take that. we'll talk about your sunday forecast and have a check at the beach weather coming up when i see you again. >> beach, huh? jeez. sounds good. thanks. three teens are recovering from hypothermia after getting stuck in high water. prince george's county crews rescued them from under a bridge and it was all caught on tape. >> reporter: dramatic video captures ems rescuing three children holding on to a support beam under this bridge in mt. r rainier, maryland. he gives the kids flotation devices and pulls them out one by one in less than 30 minutes. >> to see a situation where three young lives could have been swept away in a moment is scary. >> reporter: it started when two

14-year-olds were playing during the thunderstorm. they fell in the cold, rough water. drifted downstream and grabbed to the beam. >> they were getting a little anxious down in the water. they kept -- after a period of time they're saying hey what's happening? >> reporter: witnesses called 911 while the kids held on to the support beam. >> when i saw the guy coming on to the rope and the kid was hanging on the wall, you pray they'll be all right. >> reporter: they were treated for hypothermia and drove them to the hospital. >> fortunately for them this had a good outcome. this morning the national weather service is working to confirm a possible tornado in hartford county, maryland. that's about 70 miles northeast of washington. the strong winds peeled roofs right off homes and brought down trees and utility poles.

at least four people were injured but all those victims are expected to make full recoveries. a confirmed tornado in hampton, virginia. police are describing as controlled chaos. there was damage in the city along with uprooted trees, a gas leak, and power outages. no major injuries to report from there. firefighters in virginia say severe weather was the blame of a house fire in oakton last night. witness saw lightning strike a house which caused a fire in the attic. a dozen firefighters were called to battle the blaze. all members inside were able to get out safely. right now the search is on for a missing man with special needs to silver spring. he's ramal thomas. he disappeared in the az pen hill area. this happened just as those thunderstorms moved in around

5:00 yesterday evening. they're worried for his safety because he functions at the level of a 4-year-old. he's about 5'4" tall. he was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white shirt. he should be wearing a silver bracelet reading citizen of maryland. if you see him, contact montgomery police. the storm snarled during the rush hour. the strong winds knocked down trees causing a power outage near newark avenue. as a result, all marc and amtrak trains were kept at the station. train service is now back to nar mall. new from overnight, because of that bad weather, v.d.o.t. were going to close the lanes.

the road work has been moved now to nx friday night. crews will restripe the pavement and shift traffic. drivers who use the wilson bridge should expect major delays this weekend. crews are paving the final route lanes so only one lane gets you by. the work is expected to last until 5:00 monday morning. drivers are urged to avoid the area altogether. thousands of people will be in d.c. for the race for the cure. 25,000 people are expected to take part in the race. it starts at 8:00 on the washington monument grounds and ends near the space museum. metro opened early to accommodate the extra traffic. egypt's ex-president hosni mubarak will spend the rest of his life in prison. a court just convicted him in

numbers and how it's going to effect the presidential rate. >> reporter: it's a punch to the gut of people looking for work like these at a jobs fair in north carolina. it's terrible news for president obama. when the numbers were tallied for may, only 69,000 jobs were added, the fewest in a year. unemployment ticked up to 8.2%. car sales were up, jobs at manufacturing are looking good. but there were deep cuts in construction. federal state and local workers laid off. because tax revenue is down. some blame the crisis in greece. >> europe is a big issue here. you add europe to this uncertainty and it's also why people are pulling back on hiring. >> mitt romney on cnbc blamed president obama. >> as well as trade policies and labor policies, all of them have made it less likely for businesses small and large to want to hire more people.

>> reporter: romney's plan includes opening up u.s. gas and oil reserves and killing obama care. president obama was at a plant in minnesota pushing a program to hire veterans, part of his jobs plan that's stuck in congress. >> there's steps that could make a difference right now. that could also serve as a buffer in case the situation in europe gets any worse. so right now congress should pass a bill to help states prevent more layoffs so we can put thousands of teachers and firefighters and police officers back on the job. >> reporter: whatever works. millions of americans need help. economists see no sign the economy will get much stronger between now and the november election. i'm steve handelsman, nbc news, washington. george zimmerman now has less than 48 hours to turn himself in. zimmerman is charged for shooting and killing trayvon martin back in february. martin was unarmed.

prosecutors say zimmerman and his wife misled the court into thinking they did not have a lot of money to post during their initial bond hearing. when they actually had $135,000 raised from zimmerman's legal defense website. the lawyer says the misunderstanding was an honest mistake. zimmerman claims self-defense in martin's death. john edwards has been cleared on corruption charges, but it appears his saga will continue at least a little while longer. rielle hunter says she's releasing a memoir. it's titled "what really happened -- john edwards, his daughter and me." edwards and hunter had a child out of wedlock nb 2008. oprah winfrey's popular book club is back. it will feature the traditional paper edition as well as the new

e-reading editions. it's going to include winfrey's comments and a readers' guide. she says this is an interactive club. her first book for the venture is "wild." taking a side in the gay marriage debate. they have released t-shirts that support same-sex marriage. they say harmony, pride, love is love alongside a rainbow. profits from the shirts will go. opponents are furious saying target should stay out of the business of redefining marriage. two years ago target faced criticism for donating money to a minnesota gubernatorial candidate who is against gay marriage. a garbage man saw something strange. it's a runaway baby stroller. he stopped his truck to block

traffic and ran after it. the woman didn't realize the stroller wasn't locked. fortunately nobody was hurt. the driver even said the baby was giggling after his unexpected ride. >> my goodness. >> funny how kids -- they don't even realize. he thought it was a fun ride. >> i'll say i've had something similar happen with that. and it was weather related. the wind blew the blanket off the stroller and it wasn't locked and started to roll away. thank goodness for the truck driver. >> what mother didn't just go -- >> i know. heart started pounding there. but weatherwise, gosh. it's so much different. what a difference a night makes, right? >> if you could sleep last night. it kept going a little while. now everything's quieted down. we have a great day ahead. we have a few clouds around this morning as we look at the washington monument. it's 6:15.

take a look at this video. this was a shot last night from chopper 4 while it was grounded during the storm. it shows some ominous looking clouds over tipton airport. there appears to be signs of rotation but there were no tornadoes confirmed. >> there was a possible funnel cloud yesterday afternoon. radar detected a possible tornado in the area. nothing was confirmed there either. luckily no reports of any damage from that. >> you were so busy yesterday. i was watching you do the 5:00 news. every time you tried to toss to someone else on the phone you would toss to doug. >> pretty much every year had a

warning or watch. >> exactly. and speaking of the tornado warning that included the airport, i was reading through the storm reports, bwi, one of seeing tree damage being blown around in the perimeter. we'll get the ground in. the weather has to go out and inspect everything first. but we're all over that. we have some sunshine starting to break through the clouds. it's pretty nice. want to give you heads up. some tides running above normal this morning. remember, we had all that heavy rain. and the tide's about one to two feet above normal. so far things are good. we're at 61. humidity's 75%. we have a nice day ahead, everybody. it is great to have you with us. so nice when we have 50s here. look at these ooz o50s off to t west of winchester.

and the rain, it is off into the coast and leaving everybody behind. we have some high pressure settling in on top for the weekend. and we are expecting a nice day today. so we'll call it dry. and hopefully no type of warning popping up anywhere because we need a break. our temperatures will bring us to 70s. over towards the bay, middle 70s there. and in cumberland, maryland, with temperatures around 72. you guys had reports with trees down out into allegheny county. so it was widespread from the eastern panhandle of west virginia all the way to the bay. speaking of the bay, the front has cleared your area. and we have the sunshine here. now, tomorrow, a little trough of the atmosphere is going to come through. this will kick up showers mostly across pennsylvania. i want you to keep an eye to the sky. up here you might sea a shower.

to weather. she was kicking, kicking. i was trying to go to bed last night and calm down, but it wasn't happening because we had exercise. today's going to be a lot better than what we had yesterday. so just take it easy. we've got 61 outside. it's a gorgeous start. and that humidity is dropping. it's going to feel good today. now, our current readings show so many 50s out there from cumberland to manassas. and the heavy rain and severe weather has pushed up into new england leaving us with lots of sunshine. look at the middle and upper 70s today at corky's farm tweeted me that the virginia wine festival is going on. it's a great day for their half marathon. i don't see any problems with that. angie's a runner. you can relate. this is good running weather. >> it's great running weather. it's all about breathing. >> and not getting a blister on your toe. >> yes. not great running weather for me today though. taking it easy. but good for them, all of out

there. >> thanks, kim. i mentioned it earlier husband's flight got canceled. as you know, the storms took a toll at the local airport. >> many having to reschedule their flights last night. all had delays for departing and arriving flights. some were more than two hours. we just checked right now. arrivals and departures and reagan national, dulles are all on time. >> that's good news. the strong storms dumped a lot of water on to the d.c. area flooding streets. take a look at this. two cars completely under water in this picture here. this was during the evening rush hour at olive street northeast. one man had a swim to safety. >> i made a right turn and i got about to, like, right where the truck is. and the water rose up o the about -- it rose up from three feet to about six feet within --

just like that. and i had to jump out of my truck. luckily the windows was down. i jumped out of the truck. this car was submerged under the water. i tried to see if anybody was in there but i couldn't see anything. by that time the rescue squad came. wasn't nobody in there. >> fortunately no one was hurt. three teens are recovering this morning after crews rescued them from last night's powerful storms. this dramatic video is coming from prince george's county fire and ems. it shows the rescue. the kids were playing along the northwest branch waterway near mount rainier. they held on to the support beam under the bridge while crews came to get tell. all had to be taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia. take a look at this video if in north d.c.

come to a decision to move forward. >> reporter: tom sherwood, news4. the newest and fifth maryland casino is set to open next week. and its owner is urging to not open any others. there are already plans to open another casino in prince george's county. yesterday its owner pleaded with lawmakers that hold off on approving what would be the state's sixth casino. he wants them to wait and see how this new casino performs before agreeing to move forward with a new gaming center. opponents of maryland's redistricting plan says they are one step closer to putting it up for a public vote. they've reportedly gathered 25,000 signatures. they need about 30,000 more by july for it to be put on november's ballot. republicans have been critical of the congressional redistricting. especially the sixth district in maryland. a piece of montgomery county

which usually leads democratic. an 8-year-old girl is dead after her mother accidentally ran over her and four other children who were playing in a driveway. the accident happened at a home along hanna street thursday night. police say marianne cruz lopez was in the process of moving out of the home when she hit the gas instead of the brake. she struck the five children with the suv. the vehicle then crashed into the garage sending bricks to the children. natalie died. three of the victims a toddler and the 6-year-old and 7-year-old boys are in critical condition this morning. so far cruz-lopez has not been charged. an army official accused of killing 16 afghan civilians faces charges of steroid use and alcohol use in addition to murder charges. he's accused of leaving his base

going to two small villages and opening fire on random afghan citizens. the defense of roid rage could be brought up but didn't want to comment on defense strategies. bales is being held at the military prison in ft. leavenworth, kansas. more warships will be moving to the asia pacific region in the coming years. leon panetta announced it in singapore. by 2020, 60% of the navy fleet will be in the region. some say the added military presence could lead to tensions with china. panetta says he believes it could lead to a partnership for countering drug programs and humanitarian aid. >> our effort to renew and intensify our involvement in asia is fully compatible with the development and growth of china.

welcome back. today thousands of people will be in d.c. for the annual race for the cure. the race starts at 8:00 on the washington monument grounds and ends near the national air and space museum. participation appears to be down this year. jane explains why a fund raising flop may be behind the drop. >> reporter: thousands of breast cancer aur survivors and their supporters pick up pacts for the race for the cure.

an emotional time for many. >> it means a lot to me. >> you feel the power of all the walkers. it's just very, you know, soothing knowing you're not the only one. >> reporter: last year's race saw 40,000 people fill the streets along the national mall. this year that number may be down by 1/3. possible fallout from the charity's unsuccessful effort to stop funding planned parenthood breast screenings. there would be no on camera interview about the number of participants in this year's race. the arlington free clinic know the numbers are soft. >> komen is extraordinary. there is a blip. we've heard it's down. i expect over time it will come back up. >> reporter: still, this health care center couldn't be more grateful for the moneys raised by the annual komen race. 432 free mammograms have been done here to low income races

pour. this is what rush hour looked like yesterday and this is a still photo. commuters driving through deep water. terps line kbaker tweeted out this photo when he got stuck in it. >> looks like the water is up to the bumper of the big truck. and look at this. fast-moving water in damascus. drivers risked their lives driving through the rising water. fortunately no one was hurt. the water has receded. that water went up in an instant. took a little while to come back down. >> and you know what i'm going to say. turn around, don't drown. that's dangerous. >> there's so many people in these huge suvs that think they're invincible and can go right through it. >> doesn't take much -- once your car starts floating, you're trapped. >> it takes one foot? >> yeah. to move a large car. best to just go around. if you have a gps in your car, it's not hard to do that

islands. they're getting the rain. we got that over with yesterday. what we have is the sunshine and lower humidity. nice weather to get oud and maybe do a bit of yard cleanup unfortunately. we have to think about that after yesterday's severe storms. by 10:00 in the upper 60s. 75 is my forecast at 2:00. and temperatures around 76 at 6:00. pleasant. afternoon clouds but not looking at any rain today which is a good thing. let's talk about the nats. they had to postpone that game yesterday. today the game is at 4:05 at nationals ballpark. here's what i'm thinking for the first pitch. 76 degrees with the west wind. partly sunny. that will be pushing any balls hit down the first baseline. go nats, let's bring home a big "w" for us. the sunshine taking us through 8:00 tonight. sunset isn't until 8:20-something. it's going to be a great day.

the street parties have already begun celebrating a once in a lifetime event. >> cheers for the jubilee. >> reporter: preparations are underway. today a full dress rehearsal for the royal procession. the stands are going up to hold thousands for a concert on the front steps of buckingham bals itself. and everything is in place for the grandest moment of all. a thousand ships on the river tems. special jubilee bells will ring for the queen. some of the boats will be lavish. others a little less so. like the one carat and her friends will be rowing. >> i think it's a great excuse for the country to have a party. >> reporter: and a chance to celebrate a woman who has honored a promise made long ago. >> with my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service.
