we have children watching. we have bubbly weather. >> i was surprised to learn there was a saturday morning show. >> don't start. >> wednesday might be wine day but saturday is not souse day. >> i enjoy you and our whole crew here. let's talk about the strong storms that battered the atlantic. alex witt has more for us. good morning. >> good morning to you, lester. a lot of people are picking up the pieces this morning after that intense storm blew over trees, downed power lines and ripped roof. swiftly, spurring tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings up and down the eastern seaboard. >> we're still getting pounded tonight with thunderstorms producing very, very heavy rain. in the nation's capital, the first wave of storms hit right at rush hour. flash flooding caught drivers by

surprise. some were rescued by a boat. >> i made a right turn and the water rose to where the truck is, three feet to six feet in jeff like that. >> in maryland this dramatic video shows three teenagers being hoisted to safety after being trapped. >> three young lives could have been swept away at a moment. it's scary. fortunately for them this had a good outcome. >> elsewhere in the state the violent storms stripped roofs, knocked over signs and overturned vehicles. 's a piece of metal wrapped around a tree. this funnel briefly touchnd down at a hampton maria. in pittsburgh severe winds tore the roof off this 80-foot inflatable dome at robert morris university. ten people inside the complex at the time but escaped without

injury. >> no serious injuries reported in either virginia or maryland. more than 30,000 homes in baltimore lost power. more than half have been restored. lester. >> alex, thanks very much. here is hoda. now to mux where 1200 firefighters are battling the nation's largest wildfire. nbc's miguel almaguer is in reserve, new mexico. what's happening there? >> reporter: hoda, good morning. this isn't just the biggest wildfire burning in the country, it's the largest wildfire to ever scorch new mexico. it's roughly 118,000 acres. to give you some perspective, the burn zone is roughly the size of new york city. now, there is some good news and bad news today. the good news, firefighters who have been working every day all day, 24 hours a day for up to two weeks have this fire roughly 15% contained. they are hoping to get more containment later this afternoon. the bad news, this wildfire is burning in the national forest, where there is rough terrain, a lot of terrain they can't get

to. to be honest, they say the fire will burn for weeks if not months down the road. the good news it's not threatening very many homes. there's a subdivision relatively close to where it's burning, an hour from where we're standing. firefighters have several crews there trying electroprotect the structures. that's one point of concern for them here. again, the good news, the fire is burning mostly in an area that is inaccessible and not threatening many homes. >> wow, a long time to put that out. thanks. now to lester. some big warning signs about the economy. according to the labor department only 69,000 jobs last month, unemployment report led to 8.2%. theismal report affected dow jones, erased gains for the year. leading to new fears the economic recovery is stal here is cnbc's tyler matheson. >> reporter: hundreds lined up at a job fair in los angeles.

>> i've been actively looking for employment for the last three years. >> you just have to keep potion tiff and know there's something out there somewhere. >> reporter: nearly 13 million americans are without jobs and hunting for work in an economy that clear from the labor department report is still struggling. the 69,000 added are less than half the 50,000 or so most forecasters expected. a dramatic drop from just a few months ago when in january, february, march the economy added more than 225,000 new jobs a month. some economists see may's sluggish performance as a kind of payback for that hiring surge. although there was some new jobs, the unemployment ticked up for the first time in months. >> i think most of us expected to see more job creation, to see less than 70,000 jobs were actually created in the u.s. is certainly signs that employers are still cautious about hiring.

>> reporter: among the few bright spots employment increased in health care, transportation and manufacturing, including the auto industry. in fact, ford, chrysler and gm all showed double digit sales gains in may. still, government payrolls fell again last month and there were job losses in housing and construction. >> housing really is one of the biggest concerns. it's not just impacting the builders that are building these houses, it's impacting all the people that work on these homes. electricians to plumbing, painters, concrete. you know, it's the trade positions. >> reporter: but even those who work in construction and able to find jobs say the industry isn't what it used to be. >> we used to do seven to ten a month, now half of that or three-quarters of that. obviously if we don't have enough revenue coming in, i have to let some of my people go. >> reporter: for "today," tooirl

have been acquitted. along with them the president's two sons acquitted on charges of corruption. we understand the president has been transferred to a prison in the south part of cairo. he will begin serving his sentence immediately. and at the same time the appeals process is under way. alex. >> thank you so much. syria is under more pressure to end its violent crackdown on dissent that began 15 months ago. the u.n.'s top human rights body voted overwhelmingly on friday to condemn the regime of president assad on the slaughter of more than 100 civilians last week. defense secretary leon panetta is talking about a new military strategy for the asia pacific region. speaking at an annual security forum in singapore, said the united states will move 60% of its warships to the pacific by the year 2020. panetta dismissed the notion after more than a decade of war in iraq and afghanistan, the move is designed to contain china's emergence as a global power. there is some good news about fighting cancer.

researchers meeting today in chicago say they have found a new class of chemotherapy drugs that target cancer cells while sparing healthy ones. they hope the experimental treatment called tdmi will prove to be more effective and less toxic than existing treatments. a runaway car sent five people to the hospital in connecticut. fire officials say he lost control as he was trying to park. plowing through a supermarket. none of the injuries thought to be life threatening. the driver may have had a medical problem. mets fans are celebrating today. the team finally has its first no-hitter. johan santana pitched against st. louis cardinals. that's one of baseball's best offenses by the way. padres are the only big league franchise without a no-hitter. look at that, especially coming after a year of being off the team because of surgery. he was recovering. nice going. >> fans celebrating too much.

have temperatures rebound up into the upper 70s this afternoon. and the nats first pick is at 4:05. looking good. that's your saturday forecast. hoda. >> thank you, bill. it's a dramatic twist in a racially charged case that's drawn national attention, the fatal shooting of an unarmed 17-year-old teenager named trayvon martin. now the judge has revoked the bond of the accused murderer george zimmerman and ordered him to go back to jail. nbc's kerry sanders with more on that. kerry, why the turnaround here? >> reporter: well, good morning, hoda. because florida prosecutors say george zimmerman and his family misled, deceived and outright lied to the court when they said they were basically broke. the only way they could meet the bond was to get second mortgages on his parents and his grandmother's homes. 28-year-old george zimmerman released from jail here six weeks ago is headed back behind bars. >> at this time revoke his bond,

place him on no bond status. >> reporter: florida prosecutors argued the released murderer released on $150,000 bond in april deceived the court when he failed to reveal a $135,000 balance in a paypal account. >> it was misleading, a blatant lie. >> at the bond hearing zimmerman's wife was allowed to testify by phone to avoid cameras in the courtroom. >> do you have any estimate as to how much money has already been obtained? >> i do not. >> she stated unequivocally she does not have any money. >> in a recorded jailhouse telephone call prosecutors say husband and wife talked in coded language. george zimmerman, you're going to take out $10 and keep it with you in cash, less than 10. she willie zimmerman. like $9. george zimmerman, say about 10. i'm wondering, you have more than $10. >> they were using codes, instead of saying $10,000,

$9,000, they were using code words thinking police are going to be real stupid when listening to these calls and couldn't figure what's going on. >> reporter: zimmerman accused of killing trayvon martin and charged with second degree murder. the attorney said if he lied about his paypal account, how can he be believed when he says he shot trayvon martin in self-defense. >> his credibility is the most important thing in the entire case. >> reporter: the attorney says failing to reveal the paypal account was a technicality. proving that zimmerman did not use any of it for the bond. >> if deception was their intent why did they disclose to me the first day it was discussed and why did he forward all the money i asked him to forward the day we asked him to forward it. >> reporter: prosecutors say that george zimmerman also had two passports but failed to turn both of them into the court as required. the judge said that that was not a critical violation. once george zimmerman turns

himself in, it's expected judge lester will have him and his wife she willie front and center to answer some questions. hoda. >> thank you. thanks, kerry, once again, here is lester. it will be two years since kyron hormowho ar horman headed school and vanished. she's suing the person she thinks is responsible. >> every time i think of kyron, i think of his big smile. >> reporter: a mother's pain two years after her son disappeared. desiree young is now taking action filing a civil lawsuit against kyron's stepmom, terri horm horman, the last one to see the second-grader in 2010. >> in this lawsuit, i'm asking the court to compel terry to tell me where kyron is. >> reporter: an attorney for terry says she has no comment on

the suit. she told investigators she last saw the little boy walking towards his class. his mother and the father have long believed terry is responsible for the disappearance. >> we need to do everything we can to apply pressure from all the different angles. >> cane horman is divorcing terry and says she's behind a murder-for-hire plot against him. terry has never been charged with anything. while she has been a focus in the disappearance, she's never been named a suspect. >> on behalf of miss young, i'll be able to issue subpoenas, compel production of documents including e-mails and text messages. >> reporter: young is asking for $10 million in damages but says any money she recovers will be used to help families of other missing children. >> it is your worst nightmare. no matter what you do to prepare for it, you can't. >> kyron, we will never stop. we will never give up. >> two parents desperate for any
