outdoors later. >> reporter: yesterday on the mall, d.c. fire and ems had to treat dozens of people for heat-related illnesses here at the pride festival. we haven't heard of any problems. a lot of people we spoke to say they're definitely cooling it down with water and playing it safe today. the festival is continuing as we speak. reporting live from northwest washington, dorothy spencer, news4. tonight auburn university is in shock. three people are dead, three others injured after gunfire broke out at a party near the campus. this all happened, as we said, near the campus of auburn about 50 miles east of montgomery, alabama, about 30 miles west of columbia, georgia. here's more on the search for the gunman. >> reporter: a gunman opened fire during a fight at a party held at an off-campus apartment complex near auburn university on saturday night. >> it happened so quick. >> reporter: three were killed in the shooting, including from former auburn university players. three more were injured in the gunfire, one of whom is a

he is running for the seat left by giffords after she was shot in 2011. the voters will head to the polls on tuesday for a special election to fill the seat. barber is running against jesse kelly who lost to giffords in 2010. returning to the race for the white house, president obama backtracking now on a comment he made about the economy. it's a comment that republicans are using to try and prove that the president is out of touch. brian moore has our report. >> reporter: it's safe to say these are six words president obama would like to take back. >> the private sector is doing fine. >> reporter: and you can bet those are six words mitt romney and the republicans will not let him forget. >> we've seen layoffs, cutbacks. >> when it's all said and done, i'm making $200 a month. >> i've been looking for a job for two years, haven't found any. >> reporter: after a news conference on friday, president obama tried to clarify himself.

colorado that has now grown to 22 square miles. hundreds of people are to evacuate their homes yesterday and this afternoon. within 24 hours, the blaze has damaged or destroyed 18 buildings. air tankers are now dropping retardant on the flames, but at this point the fire is not contained at all. the cause remains under investigation. it's very dry out west. here we're dealing with high temperatures, a little break in the humidity today, but a little uncomfortable. >> we had dew points in the mid-60s, so it probably felt pretty hot. we nixed the moisture out, so it probably didn't feel that bad. humidity dropped to only 31% during the peak of the afternoon heating, and that allowed the evaporation of sweat off your skin to take effect and be a little more effective had it would have been if the humidity had stayed in the 50 to 60% range. as you look live over the

where is the rain coming from? right down here across the deep south. another heavy rain day across mobile and pensacola, places that smashed rainfall records yesterday. they're getting inundated today. if you have friends and relatives flying, big airport delays at hartsfield-jackson. all this rain is racing towards parts of central georgia where they really do need the rain. a couple thundershowers just to the west of downtown new york city. that may slow down some shuttle flights in and out of new york airport, so a lot of challenging travel around the mid-atlantic here for the next couple hours, at least away from us. for us, high and dry in our area. that's welcome news. a little weather boundary off the delaware coastline. it's never going to make it to us but it will focus on another little chance of showers to our north and east. mugginess moving in and rain chances starting to increase by 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 tomorrow afternoon out to our west. by tuesday morning, raindrops

likely across the capitol beltway and heavy rain possible late tuesday into the morning of wednesday. going to the beach monday and tuesday, no complaints. a couple showers by tuesday afternoon but on the whole good weather. dry weather for us in the overnight hours. tomorrow becoming cloudy and quite humid, showers likely way late in the day tomorrow out to the west and south of washington. in town, rain chances ramp up for tuesday and wednesday, may linger into thursday, and there's a lot of clouds at the end of the week. a little bit of low pressure trying to develop off the delaware coast. that could drag raindrops into thursday.
