medical emergency. news 4's angie goff has the latest details. >> we know commerce secretary john bryson suffered a seizure in connection with those car crashes in southern california. as the secretary recovers, he remains the focus of a felony hit and run investigation. it happened saturday night outside of los angeles. within a span of five minutes police say bryson was involved in three accidents. the secretary allegedly rear-ended a car with three people in it who were stopped waiting for a train to pass. it's reported he hit the same car again while fleeing the scene, and then minutes later police say bryson hit another car on a side street. the secretary was found alone and unconscious in his lexus and taken to the hospital. he was treated for his seizure and is now back in d-c-. nbc news reports the white house was not informed about the accident until last night. security detail was not with the secretary who was driving his own car at the time.

bryson was cited for a felony hit and run, but he has not been formally charged. injuries in all accidents were minor and drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors. barbara. >> thank you so much, angie. we're following some breaking news out of egypt right now where there are conflicting reports as to whether former egyptian leader hosni mubarak has slipped into a coma. he's slipped in and out of consciousness in cairo. doctors used a detib lafibrillo get him back to consciousness. it was during the uprising that forced him from office in 2011. investigators in prince georges county are trying to figure out what led to a driver crashing right into a home. look at this. the car somehow wound up in a house on rigs road near adelfy road in adel fee, maryland. there are no reports of

injuries. >> the maryland man who drove a stolen suv into a downtown d.c. office building is due in court a few hours from now. charles ball faces several charges including assault with intent to kill. police say ball had soaked the inside of the suv that he was driving with gasoline before plowing into the office little on connecticut avenue on friday night. when officered arrived they say he was trying to light a lighter. court records show the vehicle belongs to a woman who had filed a restraining order against ball earlier in the day. ball is also a registered sex offender in maryland. and new from overnight. a howard county family is okay after a fire destroyed part of their home. the fire broke out in the 10000 block of scaggsville road in laurel. the three-car garage was completely destroyed, but they prevented the flames from spreading to the rest of the house. they worked to put out the blaze.

right now at midday, growing pains for d.c. community. work starts today to give the youth street corridor a facelift, but that means several weeks of construction. mechan megan mcgrath has more on what's ahead in the community. >> u street is a bustling commercial corridor, so there's little doubt that a big construction project like this will cause problems. people that live around here hope it's not too bad. >> it needs to be done, but it's going to hurt the community. >> people who live and work along the u street core doerr see it as a necessary evil. >> it's one of the busiest streets in the district. it's lined with cars.

forecast will prevent them from containing a massive firefighter. it destroyed 31 square miles since it started on saturday morning and expected to grow bigger than that. at least 18 homes and rnlg blgs are destroyed and hundreds have evacuated their homes. about 255 firefighter including some from canada with battling the flames. they're not sure how it started. >> one man is dead as a result of flooding in the south. a 23-year-old drown in the gulf of mexico in florida yesterday, and the south is expecting more heavy rain today. alabama and florida were hammered by rain all weekend. pensacola got 20 inches, while some areas of alabama got 15 inches of rain. thousands of people are stranded because of high water, and the flooding was so severe it destroyed some homes. if we could get some rain out west. >> don't you worry. we can get the rain from down south to here, we can make that happen. we can get the rain up here for sure. the folks out west have having a

grill if you want to. we need 12 wild shrimps, peeled and deveined and some cabbage and a banana leaf, radish can you tell into julienne and some lime juice and tortillas and 12 wooden skewers and they have to be six inches long. tell us how to do it now. >> basically what ear going to do -- the reason that you want to do thesk skewer and you can from the fail ouchlt you can break it off. it doesn't have to be exactly six inches. that deeps it from curling. >> they often do curl up. can everybody see that? that's a little hot, but this is what it looks like on the skewer. you have to keep it straight. it goes down on here and starts to cook, right? >> that's correct. being father's day i think dads like meat, as well.

right now police in southern california are investigating two weekend crashes involving commerce secretary john bryson. the commerce department says bryson suffered a seizure in connection with the accidents in the los angeles area on saturday. police say he fled the scene of one accident. they found him injured sxand unconscious at the scene of a second crash. bryson was released from the hospital yesterday and returned

to washington. he was cited for felony hit and run but has not been formally charged. a house committee will decide this week in u.s. attorney general eric holder will be held in contempt of congress. lawmakers claim he didn't produce all subpoenaed documents related to the fast and furious investigation. the botched justice department operation tried to track guns given to mexican drug cartels but result ntd deaths of several u.s. agents. in the past congressional hearing holder denied knowing of the tactics. the house oversight committee will consider the contempt of congress issue on wednesday. the first alleged victims of jerry sandusky could confront the former penn state defensive coordinator as aearly as today as the next phase begins. opening statements are under way in sandusky's sex abuse trial. he's accused of molesting ten boys, eight of whom take the stand. to explain how the former coach befriended them through his charity and then abused him. the defense plans to hammer away at their credibility by

public service commission. they're holding a new orleans style funeral complete with a jazz ensemble and a casket in hopes to bury a rate hike. pepco says the raise is to help pay for more than $900 million in improvements needed they say. police are still trying to figure out what happened to a man found dead near his virginia apartment. ba barat patel's body was found outside on saturday. police responded to the scene earlier in the night after reports of a fight, but they found nothing at that time. patel was reported missing an hourn later. it's unclear how he died, but police have released a sketch of a suspect in the case. police in alabama are conducting a statewide manhunt for a support that killed three people. two were former auburn football

children from an earlier marriage. he said she stole from his daughter, who was nine at the time. kennedy also accuses mary kennedy of showing up on trips that she wasn't invited on and often calls him dozens of time. mary kennedy committed suicide last month. nerl robert or mary's divorce attorneys has commented about the article. senate hopeful george allen is making one final appeal to voters in northern virginia ahead of tomorrow's republican primary. virginia governor mcdonnell will be among his supporters at today's campaign rally in ashburn. allen who lost a senate seat in 2006 is up against three other challengers in the fall. people who want to vote tomorrow in the primary do not need i.d.s. the new voter i.d. law does not take effect until july 1st. arizona voters decide tomorrow who will replace gb gb in congress. she campaigned this weekend for ron barber, one of her former

aides who will locked with republican kelly. she gave up her seat in january to focus on her recovery a year after she was shot in the med outside a tup son grocery store. barber was also injured. virginia governor bob mcdonnell is extending his gratitude to the president of the university of virginia for her short tenure. teresa sullivan is stepping down. in 2010 she became the first woman to lead that university. sullivan said in a statement she had a philosophical difference of opinion with uva board of visitors. her last day is august 15th. school administrators will move quickly to name an interim president and start searching for a replacement. it took him longer than he wanted, but ralphael nadal made history this morning at the french open.

washington for years know your dad and the wonderful things he does and know him from a member in the community and being out and doing lots of things. what did you discover that you didn't know about your dad? >> a lot of people said when he died he was a great man for creating the peace corps and run president johnson's war on poverty and creating head start and wroshged with my mock spreading special olympics all around the world. i think he was a good man because of his relationship with my mom of 56 years, raised five kids and went to mass on a daily basis and had countless friends. i learned so much from him and reflecting back on this book, that i hope will help me be a better father to my three kids. we're struggling with aging parents and in-laws, dealing with friends and family's commitment to faith. dad balanced all of that and did a great job. that's about a son trying to understand what his father did and how he balanced it all and was so joyful in the process.

>> with all that he did. getting out and going to church every morning and having all kinds of things happen as you were growing up, did you feel he was there? >> always. when he traveled abroad, we would get postcards and a phone call. he was around a lot. on the weekends we played baseball and hilt fly balls. his presence was always there. he didn't take me to school every day and go to of athletic events, but i always felt his presents. he would write notes and slip them urnld the door after dinner conversations in the middle of the night. when i graduated from college he sent letters on a daily basis, sometimes a couple about newspaper clippings, anything he had learned and the importance of writing to your kids. >> narz a picture of your father as a we all remember him. you know, he was known for, of course, being a member of the kennedy clan. >> yes. >> but he made a name for himself, because he did a lot of other things. tell us about that. >> absolutely. i think his strong faith gave him as since of his own worth, and his whole life is a history
