sandusky. good afternoon, i'm barbara haysen in for pat. and today the testimony was dough tailed and graphic. the first victim told jurors of a five-year-long sexual relationship that began when he was just 13. brian moore reports. >> reporter: in opening statements of the sex abuse trial, two divergent profiles -- the former penn state assistant football coach was described by the prosecution as a serial predator, and by his defense as a father figure who's being victimized. prosecutor joe mcgeddagon showed victi eed picture of the victims and painted a vivid picture of the young men and the abuse they allegedly suffered. >> the prosecution put up a series of pictures at the time the alleged abuse began, so in the jury's mind, they will always now through the course of

this trial associate those victims victimses with those victims. >> reporter: the first victim described a relationship that began with showers and escalated into physical acts. publicly the witness said sandusky would act like his father, but when they were alone, quote, basically like i was his girl friend. the prosecutor warned the jury that these victims were very young at the time of the abuse and that i reactions were that of young children and their recollection of the events might not be perfect. joe amendola admits to showering with young boys, but said that was simply part of the football culture, not a crime. he pointed out at least six of the accusers have their own civil attorneys and a financial interest in the outcome of this day defense attorney joe amendola says sandusky loves

kids so much, he does things that most of us would never dream of doing. commerce secretary john bryson was charged with felony hit-and-return after two accidents that may have been caused by a seizure he suffered in california. he caused the accident saturday evening, was found unconscious and hospitalized overnight for observation. police say drugs or alcohol were not factors in either accident. bryson is back in washington now. he is 68 years old. lawmakers say holder has not produced all the documents they subpoenaed in their investigation. into the fast and furious investigation. however, many of the guns were never traced and some were found at the scene of violent crimes. in december of 2010, arizona

'80s rocker in "rock of ages" but we hear he was the extreme opposite at his hollywood premiere. >> yeah, what was he wearing? >> i tried to get tom to confess to partying in the '80s. i said were you hitting it hard? did the tomster go deep? he said never. tom has always been the strict professional, but she howed up to the premiere on friday, the movie started at 7:30. he was there at 5:00. i heard a report that tom will be here at 5:00, so we need you here at 5:00. normally i wouldn't get there until 6:15. i say, okay, fine. there's tom, he greeted every single fan in order, and i mean, the guy is just incredible. he's a committed when it comes to the premiere, when it comes to a movie. in this movie, which i have seen, you will see two things from tom you have never seen before, his left butt cheek, and his right butt cheek. he is in rearless chaps, folks.

upper '80s today. a good way to cool off was being on the water yesterday. this is the south river. the south river, that ten-mile tributary that's right around the bay, a lot of folks were out with their sailboats, their motor boats, just a nice ways to cool off. this past weekend we were right up around 90 degrees, some locations even higher. temperature today at 87 degrees, that's reagan international. we have a south wind. as jim said, it's plenty sticky, the dew point at 61 degrees. temperatures throughout the area, we're 86 in fred ricks, 70 in culpepper, 79 in winchester, the cooling off coming from showers and storms moving through. we'll take a look at this. two areas of very, very heavy rain, tropical moisture down through the southeast, and then we've got more moisture, powerful line of storm just south of chicago, paducah,

kentucky, that continuous line where they have several warnings out for severe thunderstorms. meanwhile, around here, just showers for us, winchester, warrenton, and around lock u.s. dale, this area is creeping to the north and northeastward, so you folks in lees burg, you'll be getting a few showers, scattered showers for the evening, more coming in after midnight, a lot more for tomorrow. that's this tropical moisture down south, where there was upwards of 13 inches of rain through areas of the deep south. here's what's going to happen. we've had an area of low pressure and the cold front. both of these, tropical moisture will be making their way northward, so we're due to see quite a bit of rain, anywhere between maybe an inch of rain, some locations north and east a little bit more over the next 24 hours. showers and thunderstorms will be playing out tomorrow, especially during the afternoon, and right through the evening hours. here's 4:00 p.m. wednesday.

graphic testimony today in the jerry sandusky trial. one of the alleged victims testified about soap battles in the shower that escalated into sexual abuse. he also testified the former assistant coach sent him creepy love letters. he's charged with abusing ten children. secretary bryson back in d.c. the crashes happened saturday in l.a., and may have been caused by a seizure. secretary bryson was hospitalized overnight. police say drugs and alcohol were not factors. a big construction project got under way. the project will bring wider sidewalks and more parking to the neighborhood. it's happening between 9th and 14th streets. the project is expected about to last a year. stocks off big losses amid ongoing fears about a global economic slowdown. the dow fell 143 points, the

nasdaq 49, the s&p 500 wound up the day about 17 points lower. new details may be revealed in the last days of mary kennedy. the report gives a raw and candid look inside the kennedy home, as it appears mary kennedy was spiraling down, drinking heavily, depressed and out of control. jeff rossen reports that she was only allowed to see her children if she was supervised. >> reporter: on the grounds of their sprawling new york estate, mary kennedy hanged herself, a painful end last month to a painful life. she was in the midst of a bitter divorce from bobby kennedy, her final months laid out in excruciating detail in this "newsweek" article. mary's violin andfold abuse

had no comment. two college students from mesh are safe after being trapped in nine days in a snowstorm in the new s.e.a.l.ant wilderness. there was a massive search for the students studying abroad. the couple said they planned to camp for a few days, but had to hunker down and wait out the storm. they kept warm by staying near hot springs. today the students are being criticized for venturing out with so few supplies. >> just like not the time of thing you want to be wearing and have when you're stuck in a mountain storm. >> there's a lot of work that went on into the operation, the use of the helicopter, and obviously the search volunteers that were used. >> they made their way out on sunday. other than being hungry, they're in pretty good shape. a team 6 researcher is working on what happened to amelia earhart.

so we've been talking about the possibility of showers and they're already starting to pop up. >> they are. we'll see more showers by tomorrow morning, and then pretty much into it bhi tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. take a look. is that a jet ski? i can't still if they're standing or sitting. somebody cruising through the water trying to cool off, on a day where temperatures have been into at least the mid 80s in most neighborhoods. even a few just north of d.c. around bethesda. so we're going to start out by taking a look at storm 4 radar. the bulk of the rain sits to the south and west. areas through i-66, culpepper, that's moving to the north and northeastward, where you can see some showers around white post.
