popular bike path want changes to improve vaft. a rock 'n' roll band stepping up efforts to find the killer of a virginia tech student. and candidates in a swing state. we begin with a hit and run accident that sent three people to a hospital. the driver who ran off took a child with him. the accident happened along keniworth avenue in northeast. >> reporter: d.c. police say at 5:00 this evening an elderly woman and two children were hit by a man in another vehicle. that man fled the scene while the three individuals were transported to a hospital in serious condition. one witness tells us she was on the other side of 295 when she heard the commotion and came

running this way and saw a man run through the alley with a child. >> i seen two kids in the suv. one kid was bleeding from the head. an older lady in this car here. >> reporter: police describe the man as a black male at 150 pounds, 5'8" with braids and black sneakers last seen fleeing on the city side. it is unclear tonight what caused an engine problem that led to an emergency landing at dulles airport. a united express flight took off for pennsylvania this afternoon but right after takeoff the pilot noticed vibration in an engine and he shut it down and turned the plane around and went back to dulles. a d.c. woman says her father is alive thanks to the help of a good samaritan and his dog. sawney bell was walking to work when two large dogs got loose

from a towing lot and mauled him. he was left with a broken arm and deep the bash wounds. a man and his bulldog came to bell's aid and chased the dogs off. charges could be forth coming. >> i think the owner needs to own up to what happened and we need to take it from there. >> bell is in the hospital tonight. his daughter says he is having surgery tomorrow. parents are upset after learning a special ed teacher was arrested on child pornography charges. robert fenn was fired from poplar tree elementary school in chantilly. he was arrested yesterday at the school. he lives with his parents in herndon. agents searched that house and took away computers and other

evidence. >> it's something we don't expect in our community especially with a teacher. we don't expect that. >> obviously it's sickening and heart breaking and you never imagine it is going to happen at your children's school. >> police don't believe students at the school were harmed. a family in virginia is trying to solve the murder of a local teenaged girl that has been a cold case 30 years. cindy vanished at the age of 18 from tacoma park, maryland. that was 30 years ago. skeleton remains were found two years later but recent dna testing positively identified the remains as hers. >> our hope now lies with you, our friends, our neighbors and the community. if you know anything at all about cindy's disappearance please come forward and help close cindy's case.

fraud. in november there will be an election to replace brown. the family of an 80-year-old woman killed in an accident wants safety improvements on a popular bike trail. she walked on the trail every day for 15 years before the accident on monday. shomari stone spoke with her relatives tonight. >> hard time to believe it's actually happened. it's like in the -- you know, horrible movie. >> reporter: these two have empty hearts. >> there is a big hole. >> reporter: surrounded by photos of their mother in this exclusive interview. the 80-year-old died in a tragic bicycle crash on monday from her assisted living facility to the four-mile bike trail in virginia. >> she never come home from the stroll in the park. >> reporter: a 62-year-old bicyclist was going down a hill

at an undetermined rate of speed and saw eda ahead and yelled to your left. >> eda stepped to her left and the bicyclist hid her head on. she fell backwards and hit her head on the pavement. >> this thing is not supposed to happen. >> reporter: the bicyclist stayed on the scene and someone called 911. police invested and say they won't charge him, saying this was an accident. want bicyclists to slow down. bikers want walkers and joggers to pay attention. >> i don't want to hit anybody or hurt anybody. >> we voiced our concerns. >> reporter: they want the county to take steps to make the trail safer. >> we suggest they divide the bike path. >> we just, you know, pray, it won't happen to you. in arlington, virginia, i'm shomari stone, news4.

an inmate trying to escape from a courthouse holding cell wound up running through the wrong door. he went right into a courtroom and there was a trial in session. this was monday louisville, kentucky and video shows the man pushing a guard through the door right into that courtroom. court officers in there tackled him and so did an attorney. jetblue is facing a lawsuit over a midair meltdown by a pilot back in march. the pilot was locked out of the cockpit and the situation triggered an emergency landing in texas. he started yelling about things related to terrorism during the flight. the passengers had to help restrain him. nine passengers filed a civil suit claiming that jetblue was negligent for trusting him to

fly the plane. jamie dimon was in the hot seat today answering to a $2 billion trading loss that he disclosed last month and whether any of the consequences will fall on taxpayers. >> reporter: jpmorgan chase ceo jamie dimon is the hero for keeping his bank in good shape. but their huge loss this year brought dimon to a senate hearing. >> this guy should be going to prison. >> stop foreclosure now. >> reporter: dimon admitted the minimum loss is $2 billion. >> we will lose money but no client, customer or taxpayer money was impacted by this event. >> reporter: dimon testified the crisis came when the staffers in london tried to reduce risk, a hedge. >> isn't that gambling? >> i don't believe so.

capitol hill. lance armstrong is dismissing charges that accuse him of using performance-enhancing drugs. the u.s. anti-doping agency says that blood samples from armstrong from 2009 and 2010 are consistent with something called blood manipulation. armstrong is a seven-time winner of the tour de france. this could strip him of victories. in a statement he said i have never doped and unlike many of my accusers i have competed adds an endurance athlete for 25 years with no spike in performance, passed more than 500 drug tests and never failed one. protecting children from concussions will mean new rules for the nation's largest youth football program. pop warner football's guidelines include limits contact drills to a third of the practice time.

we have been. you may need a light jacket tomorrow morning. but probably won't need much of one at all. no rain in our region and not much happening in the east. and thunderstorm activity in dallas, texas. two storms that developed. this guy right here. any time you see the purples or the white that shows you hail. this moved right through dallas and to the south. let's look at video from the hail. many areas saw at least golf-ball-sized hail and there were reports of baseball and softball-sized hail. that will put a lot of damage out there. you can see the windshields taken right out of the cars as the baseball-sized hail came down earlier. for our weather we have a low pressure to the east. that comes through tomorrow. it will give us a little bit of moisture. most likely just cloud cover.

a slight chance of a shower but a nice day and most of us should remain dry. on friday nice weather with plenty of sunshine. tomorrow morning seasonably cool. a few clouds. temperatures in the 50s in the suburbs. low to mid-60s in the city. tomorrow afternoon a few clouds. isolated shower in southern maryland and the eastern shore. the beach forecast looks very, very good friday, saturday and sunday. temperatures in the 70s with plenty of sun each day. 80 on friday, 81 on saturday, 82 on sunday. does not get much better than that. heat possibly next weekend. we got sports coming up next. ♪
