won't stop crying. at a news 4 sclus ib, we're there as police go after speeding motorcycles on a notorious stretch of road. good evening. they call it operation road runner. it kicked off on indian head highway, a place where illegal street races have proven deadly before. and our cameras were the only ones there today. darcie spencer has our news four exclusive. >> reporter: dozens of motorcycle riders have a need for speed had to slam on the brakes and pull over. they were crack down on so-called rocket bikes. >> we're getting a lot of complaint from the homeowner's association. the civic associations. and reference to motorcycle racing and also racing vehicles. >> reporter: for six hours, prince georges and other county

police departments targeted riders who just can't ride 55. >> they'll come in between the cars on the line. they're doing probably 100 down the road. >> many motorists we talked to support the enforcement, they say it's not just speed that's a problem. it's hotdogging. >> i watched a guy on indian highway from one stoplight to the next. >> most of the cyclists we saw today seemed to be going at a safe speed. chances are they saw all the enforcement in the area and slowed down. speeders are attracted to indian head highway because of its straight streps. in 200 several people died as a result of the street race in this same area. >> how fast would you say some of these bikes are going? >> probably around 90 to 100 probably. >> makes you feel like you're sitting still, right? >> yeah. >> during operation road runner, police handed out 19 warnings, and there was one with dui

temperatures on their way back down still 0 in town. a lot of the western sub ubs already back in the low 60s right now. the closest drops to us are out near chicago land. we'll talk about how long it's going to take to get here. it won't interfere with father's day perfect weather for bbqing and sitting in the hammock. we'll talk about the seven-day coming up. d.c. firefighters had to pull five people from a burning apartment. flames broke out around 5:00 this morning on orange street in southeast. the apartment owner described a hectic scene. >> some of the residents to climb out of the window, one person jumped out of the window. others were assisted through fire personnel who did a great job in assisting the residents to come down a ladder. >> two of the firefighters were burned during one of the rescues. no serious injuries were reported. four families displaced tonight. the owner of the building believes embers from a bbq may

have sparked the fire. inappropriate sexual contact with a teenaged girl while he was her swim coach a decade ago. noah was arrested yesterday. rucker had inappropriate sexual contact with her back in 2001. at the time he was a swim coach at james madison high school. he was 29, the accuser was 17 at the time. a woman who identified herself as rutger's wife told the associated press he denies the allegations and looks forward to his day in court. a mother punched in a bus stop and the startling reason for the violence ah, parentally because the woman's toddler wouldn't stop crying. 9 confrontation happened yet morning in tacoma park. police say a man approached the woman and her 3-year-old son telling the mother to shut her kid up. the boy finned to cry, so police say the man pushed a child,

purged the mother in the mouth and then he ran away. the mother and child are expected to be okay. police are still looking for the man who attacked them. th just one day after announcing changes to the u.s. immigration policy, the white house held a summit in maryland today that focused on hispanic issues. under the new immigration policy, the government will stop deporting illegal immigrants who are are brought here as children. they can apply to stay in the u.s. for two years at a time. democratic maryland congressman says it's good government. >> students who have gone through our school system side by side with other kids in the community, allow them to fully participate in what this can't has to offer, and the country can gain greatly from putting these individuals to work not in the shadows. >> the white house is hosting a series of hispanic summits around the nation as it tries to

connect with the key voting block. meanwhile, mitt romney is questioning the timing of the policy change. he was campaigning in pennsylvania today. cbs's bob schieffer asked him what he thought about the president's announcement. >> i think the timing is pretty clear. if he really wanted to make a solution that dealt with these kids or illegal immigration in america, this is something he would have taken up in his first three and a half years, not in his last few months. >> he did it for politics? >> that's certainly a big part of the equation. >> romney wouldn't say if he would change the election policy if elected this fall. >> his wife wasn't on the campaign trail today. she was on new jersey supporting her horse and trainer as they qualified for the u.s. olympic equestrian team. and romney tweeted this picture, the horse will compete in this summer's dressage competition. coming up, a deadly accident before a radiohead concert, the stage collapsed that left one person dead. plus, a space plane with a

one person is dead after a stage collapsed in toronto earlier today. the collapse happened while crews were setting up for the outdoor music festival. three other people were injured and the show was cancelled. still unclear why this stage gave way. after more than 15 months in orbit, an air force unmanned space plane is back on earth.

we have a story from china about a surrogate mother. this tiger cub born at a zoo in beijing needed some love after its mother refused to feed it. zoo officials found a shelter dog who recently gave berth to a litter of puppies. too bad yesterday for the first time, and already with a little help from zoo officials. yes, the tiger cub began too feed. big night for the amazing staff right here at news 4, the event recognizes local news organizations for excellence in journalism. they walked away with ten trophies, including best morning newscast, and best news special for 9/11 washington remembers. liz crenshaw and her consumer team earned an emmy. we had two big wins for our sports department. we received an award for redskins showtime. our promotions team was honored with two emmys.

it wasn't the best day for the nationals. the nationals went 14 rounds, with the heavyweight yankees, but could not limp away with the win. they lose the game and the series, i guess that means the yankees. the nats still have a comfortable four game lead atop their own division nl east. it was a great day at the ballpark, we can all get along, yankees fans, nats fans. everybody was happy. the nationals jumped out to a 2-0 lead. jordan zimmerman pitching. eric chavez larges one. that one goes off the scoreboard. the yankees take a 3-2 lead. zimmerman exited after six innings, bottom of the eighth, nats still down a run. ian desmond playing with a sore oblique. here he looks pretty healthy.

hamill retires 17 straight, no hits in 6 and 2/3 innings. later in the inning, jason heyward at the dish. there goes the no hitter. heyward breaks it up with a single to left, there was a lot to play for. in the bottom of the ninth, hammel is still in, looking for the complete game shutout, and he gets it, mccann grounds out to end the game. baltimore wins 5-0 as hamill pitches a dandy. the o's first one-hit shutout since august of 2000. now, to golf, while rory mcelroy and bubba watson were moving out yesterday, some tour veterans were moving up the leaderboard in today's round three. like lee westwood. he jumped 25 spots. he fin othered third seven times in majors, but has yet to win a championship. he's like the brides made of golf.
