moving during rush hour. good evening. i'm jim rosenfield in for jim vance. >> i'm doreen gentzler. roger clemens has been acquitted on all six counts of perjury in his performance enhancing drugs retrial. the verdict was returned after ten hours of deliberation. pete williams has the latest. >> this is a huge victory for roger clemens and a big setback for the government. it's telling the trial dragged on for nine weeks. the jury took a day's worth of deliberations to find him not guilty on all counts. >> i put a lot of hard work into that career and, so, again, i appreciate my teammates that came in and all the e-mails and phone calls. >> now, we don't know exactly why the jury reached that conclusion. there were problems with the case, mainly the main witness,

his former trainer. he's the only person who claimed to have seen roger clemens take steroids and human growth hormone because he claims he injected him with the drugs. there were a number of problems with his testimony and credibility. he's been found to have lied in the past. the jury may not have believed him. some jurors from the first trial when he was brought here before the mistrial, some wondered why the federal government was king it a federal case in the first place. a huge victory for clemens. the last of the big government cases against professional athletes using steroids. the cases have been fizzling out lately. barry bonds was sentenced to home detention, charged with misleading a grand jury about whether he used steroids and the federal government investigated and decided not to charge lance

trade end diplomacy. their facial expressions, they cut a deal, but there's no smiling. mexican president calderone praised president obama to allow 800,000 young, undocumented migrants to this country to stay, study and work here. i'm steve handelsman, news 4, capitol hill. tonight, we areng some of the jailhouse phone calls released in the george zimmerman case. the recordings reveal conversations between the watch volunteer and his wife. zimmerman was in jail for the february shooting death of trayvon martin. they were talking about finances not disclosed to the court. in a call, he tells his wife to transfer money between bank accounts. >> keep your ten out first to keep in your pocket, then at the

track. the judge tells jurors they could begin deliberating as early as thursday. the prosecution closed today with the mother of a young man known as victim number nine who recalled the night her son begged her to pick him up. >> he's outside without his shoes on waiting for her. he was afraid to be in that house. that was a very powerful moment for the prosecution. >> reporter: reflecting on the suffering, she said i just can't imagine. the defense opened with a minor victory. prosecutors dropped a misdemeanor child endangerment charge. sandusky still faces 51 serious counts. richard anderson testified he showered with young boys many times. the defense argued it's part of football culture. joe asked anderson whether he hugged young boys in the shower

or stayed with them in hotel rooms. the coach said no. anderson testified about gruelling workdays and frequent travel. >> one of the coaches described how often a coach for penn state would work. they would spend time in the office giving speaking engagements. a lot of times the coach would have his time tied up. >> the timing of the alleged defense is so vague sandusky can't offer an alibi. the judge refused to dismiss the charges. a reporter asked whether he testified. he didn't answer. in pennsylvania, brian mooar, news 4. the maryland man suspected in the disappearance of his travel companion in aruba is suing an insurance company for more than $3 million. giorda giordano wants the insurance money from a policy she took out

an gardner. she disappeared while they were vacationing in aruba. giordano is a suspect in her disappearance. american express says such an insurance claim wouldn't be evaluated until a year after the incident. d.c. mayor vincent gray spent the day on jury duty. getting other citizens to do their duty is a challenge. tom sherwood reports. >> reporter: mayor gray is heading to china on a trade mission. first, he spent monday morning on jury duty, a civic duty for millions of citizens, wherever they live. >> it is a civic duty. i hope one understands the importance of it. >> reporter: do they call you mayor? >> they didn't say anything. i was a citizen. >> reporter: many were dismissed without a trial, it's something of a trial to get citizens to show up. >> if you don't participate, you don't get to help others and

decide their matters fairly. >> reporter: it's a jury of your peers. >> it is. that's the way it should be. >> reporter: the judge says many people don't respond. he summons as many as 80 every friday to his office for failing to answer a summons. no shows could be arrested even if they are stopped for a traffic violation, face $300 fines, up to seven days in jail. no shows are a problem. so far, this year about 64,000 jurors have been sent a summons. some have excuses. 21,000 show up. 42,000 didn't. >> this is the best excuse for someone or are you not going to tell me that. >> i can tell you everybody is required to serve, even all the judges on the bench. >> reporter: jurors get $30 a day for appearing. they think it's important to serve.

more than 180 homes are now gone in northern colorado, consumed by massive wildfire that is were burning for two weeks now. firefighters are bracing for more high winds expected to make things worse. there's rain in the forecast for the weekend which could help the firefighters. they are watching for the possibility of dry thunderstorms that could produce lightning, but no rain. it's expected to proceed monsoon-like rains in the forecast for the southwest next

week. yesterday's presidential election in egypt raises concern for a power struggle. it appears the election was won by muslim brotherhood candidate morsi. he's promised to implement law. egypt's council announced new restrictions on presidential power. rush plus, metro's new rush hour system got the first test today. it let's riders switch train lines without switching trains. it's to make it easier to get to and from work. chris joins us from vienna with reaction on how the first day went. hi, chris. >> reporter: hi, doreen. more than 110,000 daily passengers will benefit from rush plus. metro also says 15,000 may find

virginia lawmakers grilled governor bob mcdonnell staffers over the deal to keep the redskins in the area. the deal is worth $6.5 million with $4 million coming from taxpayers. the governor kept them in the dark about the deal. the chief of staff says some panel members were notified. he couldn't identify them. the redskins headquarters will remain in loudoun county. mcdonnell's administration did not validate the team threatened to leave if they weren't given

use. a break in a montgomery county cold case. dna evidence links a man to the rape of a woman in 2003. darcy spencer has more on the arrest and the victim's reaction. >> reporter: montgomery county police say this man, 30-year-old david martinez raped a woman nine years ago. a dna hit led to his aresz. >> the detective that investigated the case in 2003 is still in the department. he says it was a vicious and brutal attack. >> reporter: the 23-year-old victim got out of her car about 1:30 in the morning and was walking toward her home when she was attacks. >> he knocked her down. he choked her. she lost consciousness. >> reporter: the victim told police, he threw her in the car and drove her to an elementary school less than a mile away.

police developed this sketch. the suspect left the victim here in this parking lot. she was able to get help at a hospital where a rape kit was performed. dna taken from the examination led to the arrest nine years later. police got the hit linking the rape to martinez held in texas after being arrested in november, 2009 for prostitution solicitation. he formerly lived in aspen hill. last week, he was brought back to maryland where he was held without bond on rape, sexual assault and kidnapping charges. >> he had time to serve in texas. we were waiting, had to wait until he finished that sentence to be transported back to montgomery county. >> reporter: i was able to speak with the victim off camera. she's ecstatic an arrest was made.

she's looking for closure. her sense of safety has been changed. darcy spencer, news 4. fairfax city police are asking for your help solving a hit and run accident. they are looking for the driver who hit this 33-year-old. police say he was walking on fairfax boulevard friday night when a driver in a light-colored suv hit him. they got in touch with his family. he was born in afghanistan. police had trouble contacting his relatives. police are cracking down on people who park illegally in commuter lots. police are now on patrol in the horner road commuter lot in wood bridge because people are parking in crosswalks and on sidewalks off interstate 95. anybody caught doing that for two weeks will get a warning. after that grace period, police will start writing tickets. cab rides in d.c. will be
