>> reporter: we're the first on the scene on the 1800 block of t street northwest and seventh street. is it an active scene behind me. police are here trying to figure out what happened. one thing we know is that police are gathering details about the stabbing. people who went for theimmy vaughn show, police say a man stabbed a 16-year-old several times. medics drove the teen to howard hospital. he is in serious condition. police showed up at the scene and arrested two adult men and a woman. police are questioning them as we speak trying to figure out who did the stabbing and what led up to it. folks who watched the jimmy vaughn show here were shocked when they walked outside to an active crime scene. >> it makes us feel really uncomfortable with the new improvements in the area you would think that things are changing. we had a big event tonight and

having the streets closed off is an inconvenience and for people coming here for the first time it makes you standoffish. there is police tape anywhere. is it even safe to frequent the neighborhood? >> reporter: this is a woman sitting in a chair waiting to go to the other side of the yellow tape to get her car and leave theater. she was here to see jimmy vaughn. i received a note from the howard theater saying this incident apparently happened at a construction site not affiliated with theater and did not happen at the howard theater and did not involve patrons or anyone involved with theater. police are gathering details and we'll bring you updates on our website, www.nbcwashington.com. two adults and a woman have been arrested. police are questioning them as we speak. live in front of the howard

theater i'm shomari stone, news4. a standoff in falls church, virginia has ended 28 hours after it began. police used a taser on a man that was covered in gasoline. it started on hillwood avenue yesterday afternoon. the man had two family members in the house at the time. police who lived in the area spent the last day unable to get to their homes. >> tonight in colorado wildfires are destroying homes and forcing evacuations across the state including at the air force academy. thousands of residents in the city of boulder know they could be forced out at any minute. 20 families have been told to evacuate near boulder. 3,000 others on alert as this huge blaze in the flag staff

area begins to spread. the other wildfire is near colorado springs and prompted evacuations at the u.s. air force academy this evening. 12,000 people have left the far west side of colorado springs and they could be out of their homes for the rest of the week. the fires in colorado are just a fraction of the blazes burning across the west fuelled by dry conditions and triple digit temperatures. >> now the record heat and everything it's all adding up to the perfect tomorrow for us. >> reporter: and things could be getting worse. there is fear lightning in the forecast could spark even more fires overnight. tropical storm debby is now a tropical depression but the storm is leaving devastation in its path. debby made land fall on the gulf coast and moving across the state to the atlantic oceans. debby has dropped more than two feet of rain in some areas.

the town of live oak is 80% underwater. >> i have never seen it this high. even with a hurricane. a real hurricane. >> we're doing all we can. the water is rising, the retention ponds are full. the ground is saturated. we're trying to keep people safe. >> reporter: the state of florida is in a state of emergency and tens of thousands of people are without power. portions of i-10 in north florida are closed. >> doug kammerer now with all the incredible rainfall in florida. >> it is incredible. this is a slow-moving storm system. it has been sitting out here in the northern gulf of mexico inundating florida with all of this rain. now the storm finally moving across the peninsula and should exit into the atlantic by this time tomorrow. jacksonville, florida was hit hard today. you can see the center coming across shore and down to the south and east.

this is a tropical depression and it should move out into the open waters of the atlantic very, very soon. but look at the numbers. a lot of colors on the map. one thing to know for sure this area of white is over a foot of rain in the last 48 hours including this estimate of 16.2 inches. this is interstate 10 where they have many closures along the interstate. jacksonville just talked to the national weather service guy and he told me if he saw these totals anywhere else he would not believe them. 13 inches of rain in jacksonville in two days. our weather is not looking like that. gorgeous conditions tonight. that's not going to stick around. i'll have the forecast coming up. big storm last friday. you recall the magnitude of the damage is such that some families are picking up and moving out for good. >> jackie bensen with the report. >> reporter: the smell of mildew

is strong, almost sickening as the tailers pack up a decade of life from their apartment. a lot of their things were ruined after the storm. the roof collapsed and the water outside came inside. most of what's left will go into storage. they are staying with family for a while. >> that's the only plan we have right thousand. we take it in stages. >> reporter: the 19-year-old is just home from college. >> i had a suitcase in the corner and they are gone. there is roof on my suitcase. >> reporter: but like the rest of the family she approaches the packing up with a good attitude. >> god brought us through. we are alive. the roof fell on my mom's head. >> reporter: days later you can see damaged cars still line the streets here. as for the tailers in addition to finding their family's strength in adversity they didn't have renters insurance.

walter taylor says that will never happen again. in bladensburg, jackie bensen, news4. delivery drivers are being targeted in virginia and a smart phone app is making it hard to identify the attackers. the app gives them phony addresses and they rob them when the driver arrives. they use spoofing which masks the true phone number. that makes it difficult to trace. deputies are looking at charging the criminals using the app with identity theft in addition to robbery. the latest push in congress to give the district autonomy over the budget is dead. d.c. leaders asked a senate committee to pull the bill after amendments were added by rand paul. the amendments would allow city residents to carry concealed weapons and put a permanent ban on city funding for abortions. at the university of virginia they decided to rehire

anyone they stop about his or her immigration status. critics say that amounts to racial profiling. advocates for undocumented immigrants are promising to challenge the law again. another big decision is over president obama's health care law. mitt romney talked about that in a campaign stop today. he says a ruling against it would be a blow to the obama administration. he also said he will take immediate action if the law is upheld. >> if it's deemed to stand, then i'll tell you one thing we'll have to have to have a president that will get rid of obama care. >> reporter: the supreme court will make the ruling on thursday. a $10 million grant will help connect some of our areas most popular locations. the department of transportation announced funding for a

during her career. she wrote a novel called "heartburn" based on the end of her marriage. she was 71. police say a big rig taking a turn too quickly led to this massive pileup on a los angeles area freeway. 15 people went to the hospital and shut down the road for more than four hours involving 19 vehicles in all nine of them piled on top of each other. >> felt a tremendous impact and then after that, three successive impacts. >> i walked out of the car and i see a bunch of dog piled cars and everyone is running up and trying to help. >> everyone is expected to be okay. no word if the truck driver is facing charges. travel site orbitz admits it is listing more expensive rooms

that has really made for a very nice night. the high temperatures reached a high of 82 degrees after a low of 62. just about perfect. you better believe it. tomorrow i think a nice day. but it will be a little warmer. right now 72 degrees, winds out of the north at 6 miles an hour. i do expect the winds to kick back up a little bit. 70 in martens burg. 64 in leesburg. 61 in culpepper. and manassas at 57. we are going near 50 degrees in some locations. many will wake up to temperatures in the low 50s. it will be a nice morning. on the crisp side. a good night to open up the windows. clear skies across the area. there are a few clouds down to the south. high clouds streaming out of tropical depression debby as it moves across florida. take a look at the high temperatures today. we were at 82, 81 in raleigh.

83 in chicago. but look back to the west. 105 today for the second day in a row in denver. they have broken another record there. you can see why they are having problems with the fires. dallas, 107. you look at the record there. not even close. the record today, 113. they weren't near that. but here's what is happening. that hot air mass is going to shift off to the east and as it does we're going to get warm. many areas will be near triple digits including st. louis, cincinnati, memphis, raleigh and in the district we could see some areas getting around 100 degrees. nice weather tonight. nice weather tomorrow morning followed by sunshine tomorrow and warmer temperatures. the humidity is going to hold off even on thursday. it will be hot but we should be still but less humidity. clear skies and seasonably cool.

52 to 61 tomorrow morning. and over the next couple days, well, this is what you can expect. the heat moves back in. 93 on thursday. 97 on friday. saturday, a high of 99 degrees. and, yes, i do think some areas will hit 100. could be the same on sunday. 98 degrees and in the 90s most of the early part of next week. this heat wave could be worse than the one we just went through. coming up
