by not one but two cameras on board that bus. live in northwest, pat collins, news4. also in the district, three men are in custody -- three people in customer by after a teenager was stabbed near the howard theater. the 16-year-old boy stabbed along 7th street in northwest last night. police, they're now calling it a hate crime. jackie >> reporter: they're awaiting being charged with assault with a deadly weapon. more significantly prosecutors will also seek to charge them with what's called a hate crime enhancement. the 16-year-old victim told police he was walking in the 700 block of t street near the howard theater, when three young people, two young men and a young woman approached him and

started yelling anti-gay slurs. the victim told police one placed him in a headlock, one held him from behind, and the third one started stabbing him. we're told the victim had the presence of mind to pull out a pepper spray and sprayed all three. now, according to court documents presented here in court today, the suspects, quote, made several homophobic slurs directed at the victim. that continued even after they were in please custody. we're told chief lanier has a press conference at 6:00. thank you, jackie. scary moment when a bus caught fire at about 3:00. the a-6 route bus was on southern avenue and wheeler road in southeast when the driver saw smoke. about 20 passengers were on 3w50rd. the fire was candy to an engine

where local business leaders pay for the privilege of playing golf with some of the outstanding professionals in the game, and a great golf course it is. they raise a lot of money for area youth programs. the at&t national not only brings a first-ray government tournament to our area, but also honors military men and women for their service and sacrifice. donald trump was both a celebrity and an apprentice at today's tournament. he went over to the wounded warriors watching from the first tee and spent a mom with army sergeant first-clays leroy petrie. >> he said thank you for our service. he was, wow, medal of honor, that's pretty impressive. so it is great to meet him. i know how big and supportive he is of the military. it was an honor. >> reporter: the honor guard

drill team took over the first tee. opening ceremonies included a fly-overs by helicopters. then it was time for tiger woods to tee off with two young golfers representing the children of military families. >> i was able to meet tiger woods, one of the best golfers and tee off with him. >> reporter: how did you feel? were you nervous? >> from the beginning, but i felt better later. >> reporter: how did you hit the ball? >> i hit the ball pretty good. >> reporter: the tournament runts to historic congressional. in the six years, the at&t national has been played, it has raised $15 million for youth programs in the mid-atlantic. they given up 30,000 free tux to members of the military and the wounded warriors. along the 18th hole there's a heroes' wall for everyone to sign to honor of service of the

road just past the bellway. temperatures for the national tomorrow looking pretty good. i think we'll start with 94 degrees. you say, hey, that's on the hot side, but not too hot, even with plenty of sunshine, the day will start off, but after around noon, that's when things start to get hot. it is friday through the weekend where i think we have some real problems, an excessive heat watch through the i-95 corridor. a heat index near 110 degrees, guys, we're talking about serious and dangerous heat, not only out at congressional, but really anywhere around our area. make sure you're ready as this next heat wave approaches. pepco is laying out its plans for keeping the lights on. today's announcement comes just days after thousands of customers lost power during those storms on friday. this storm season is just getting started. tracee wilkins has the details.

>> reporter: it's at the sound of d.c. storm season. trees down, homes damaged and power out. system pepco customers have grown tired of days extending into weeks without electric electricity. >> every storm is different. every storm can have a different impact on the system. >> reporter: the preparedness director says is the power company is working to have better restoration times, no matter what mother nature may bring. >> starting last year in response to some criticism on our storm preparedness and response, pepco underwent a significant emergency rest ray improvement process. >> reporter: that means better training for employees, more driving on prevent tiff maintenance, and a commitment to serving customers on every level. >> the processes did exist, there are no significantly new processes, it's simply that our employees and our management are all much more aware of the plans

and processes, and participate in our drills. >> reporter: emergency management agencies and the red cross says it's important that you do the same. they want you to have an emergency kit full of items you need in case you are without resources, and they suggest a well-rehearsed plan. >> literally write it down and talk to each other about it, so each member of the family knows what they will do. >> reporter: just like friday's microburst taught us, there's no telling what could come our way. the truth is you never know when things may get back to norm all. it really did depend on the damage to the system. >> reporter: it's also important to remember that you don't want to rely on just television or cable, because if that goes out, what do you do next? remember that battery-operated radios or ones that crank, it doesn't matter the name brand,

we have a developing story that could make a big difference for millions of americans struggling to lose weight. today the fda approved the first pripg weight-loss drying in ten years. it's supposed to help overweight adults help to lose about 3% of their weight. arena pharmaceuticals tried to get it approved, but the fda rejected it because of concerns about tumors that developed in animals. after further study -- they're trying to stop a mass -- it's more than doubled in size. tens of thousands gina kim is

that's not the concern. out there, it is the fire activity. take a look right now. storm4 radar, showing you those storms down towards the denver area. right on down i-25 here. i-25 is really like colorado i-95. the fires right now, the biggest one, that's exactly where these fires are. this is pike's peak, but here is i-25. under the west of i-95, a possible evacuation, including the air force academy, located right in this area here. take a look at the rain. the thunderstorm activity right over this area, so very good news, they are going to get some rain out of this, but it will not be a lot. once again it's going to -- 40

to 50 miles. it could spark more fires. for us we've seen great weather today. 89 a high, with winds gulfing to 25 miles per hour. around the rest of the region. 84 in cull pupper, and 88 in fredericksburg, a beautiful, beautiful afternoon, but that's not what we're going to see in the next couple days. on friday expect a index near 110. ballot horrid, washington, manassas, cull pupper. we're down to get in on the heat.

fast forward throughed headlines, d.c. police looking for the person who stabbed a teenager around noon today as the bus traveled through the heart of the gw campus. a judge has ordered three suspects to be held without bond. police say they stabbed a teenager last night near 7th and t streets northwest while yelling homophobic slurs at the teenager. the victim says the attackers ran off when he sprayed them with pepper spray. republican presidential candidate mitt romney campaigning in sterling, virginia, at this hour, about to give a speech at an electronics company to talk about jobs. we'll have more in a live report. let's fast-forward to our heat wave. >> not here just yet, so get out and enjoy this fantastic weather.

you can flip that number around for friday to 98. how about 84 in g-8ers burg. look at winchester, a beautiful 82 degrees out there. on friday, that's when i expect the 450u78dity to be a factor. get ready, guys, it is going to be heart. thanks, doug, the supreme court ruling is expected tomorrow. this decision could be released anytime after 10:00 tomorrow morn. pete williams joins us with more. >> give an idea of the possible scenarios. >> reporter: there's several ways to look at it. the court could make a clean ruling one way or another. they could uphold the entire law or strike down the entire law. the key to this is the individual mandate, the requirement that everybody buy insurance by 2014. they could say that is improper

and uphold the rest of the law. or they could say other parts of the law will fall with it. the obama administration has said if the mandate is struck down, then you can't still require the insurance companies to do the most expensive things, because the money wouldn't be there. >> two others things, there's the whole question about whether the medication requirement, that they cover more people and give them more benefits. also this question, but i don't know if the justices will buy it. come back again in two years, that the court battle came too early. one other kay we'll be watching tomorrow, jim, that would be interesting and lost in the -- is the challenge to something called the stolen valor act. it makes it a crime to lie about receiving military honors. it's being challenged on first amendment grounds. the question really is, is it constitutional to lie?

of sorts we spoke to his attorney since he was detained two years ago, under that particular memorandum, this child meets nearly all of the criteria in that he's not been in the united states for at least five years which is what the new memoranda says. under the old one, that -- this is what many, many people are still trying to argue and debate -- in which memorandum do i fall under? we got this lake-breaking news from the department of homeland security that says in regards to this particular case, the i.c.e. office of chief counsel in ballot horrid has agreed to administrative close this case. they told us this was in regards to the old memorandum and would continue to look at situations on a case-by-case basis.

90. the gull news is not a lot of humidity out there. so really it's not too conferrable. now seeing some cloud cover make its way in here. these clouds are on the back side of a trough up to the north and east. in comes a nice big ridge. normally is the high pressure and nice weather, but in this case it's bringing in the heat and the west. tomorrow, however, the sun is almost like it gets bigger tomorrow, because the heat definitely gets in here. all day tomorrow, highs into the mid 90s i think for most areas. then on friday it turns hot and humid. yes, a slight chance of a shower, but i'm not expecting much. same deal goes for saturday. highs tomorrow -- 95 in market, 96 in fredericksburg, and 91 towards martins burg.

still not too human. the humidity comes in on friday. that's why we have an excessive heat watch from baltimore right on down the i-95, and points beyond for the potential for a heat index of 110 degrees. we could that again on saturday, we could see that on sunday. this heat wave much warmer than just the last heat wave last week. a bit of relief with a high of 92. 96 on saturday, 95 on sunday, maybe a chance of a shower, maybe a thunderstorm there, too. ocean city, we're hoping all those locations are looking good, but it will be on the hot side. and take a look at this. it stays in the 90s all through the forecast. >> wow. >> yeah. all right. hey, it is wednesday.

that means we're asking what's your workout? we're checking out a free class that simulates archery, horseback riding, sword fighting, all based on the new disney/pixar movie "brave." >> the classes called the pixar brave change your fate workout. it's inspired by the new disney movie "brave." the character is merida. she's strong-willed, so i wanted to capture that essence. it's a high energy workouts. and some flexibility toward the end. . it's untraditional equipment. in the movie she's a very untraditional princess. she is likes to swore fight, archery, horseback riding, so we're untraditional in that way, and we're also going to change people's bodies.
