>> i found a voice i didn't have. i became empowered, and feel like i can have some peace and get on with my life form team cover's on "news4 at 6:00" right now. breaking news now, a metro train derailed at the west hyattsville station. it happened about an hour ago. >> service has been suspended on the green line. shomari stone joins us live. what's going on? >> reporter: well, first le me tell you many of these passengers are telling me they were very scared. why? because number one, it is hot, number two, the train was shaking. number three, one woman told me the lights were out and they were escorted out of the

training through the tunnel. that tunnel, guess what, we're going to show it right now. we have some still photos that came into news4. many walked through this tunnel to outside. they said it was, you know, kind of scary. why? because you had some parents with their children walking through this tunnel, the kids are crying, the kids are scared, but the good news is no one was injured. that's always a blessen. however, i must point out there was a woman i just spoke to her husband, and she tells me she was six months pregnant, obviously scared. her husband is scared. we're first going to tell you right now we talked to some passengers. let's hear from one of them. go right ahead. >> well, the train just crashed. we didn't really understand. i was in the last, so i was a bit shaky for about two, three minutes, and then it stopped.

leadership they led you out through the tunnel? >> yes. they really well organized. we were down there no more than 20, 25 minutes. >> reporter: back out here live, i must add that green line service is suspended to prince georges plaza. let me move a bit to the left. the firefighters are decompressing, i guess, this is breaking news. i have new sound, a new interview. this is a father i just spoke to. let's hear what he has to say here as well. >> nervous, you know? you last year the train that crashed, my mea cousin's fiancee was on there. >> my son is cries. my 10-year-old is nervous, because he knew what happened to her. >> reporter: what was going through your mind? >> fear. you know, we didn't know what was what.

this is the current temperature out there. winds are calm, and there's no heat index. today is not going to feel anything like tomorrow. tomorrow is going to be a much different stories as we get hotter. now where we do have that heat index. 102 in la ray, and 103 in culpepper. i think you can add 5 to 10 degrees during the day tomorrow. that's the kind of heat we have tomorrow. that's why we have that heat advisory becoming an excessive heat twarng during the day tomorrow for a heat index above 110 degrees. tomorrow will be some incredible heat. i know it's a saturday. if you don't have to be outdoors, you may just want to

stay in and try to give it one more day, especially if you have power. >> or go get in the pool like in melissa's report. >> like that guy said, you betcha. the latest on the power outages. some people are still struggling in this heat. dominion power in virginia is down to 200 customers in the dark and the heat. that company expects to get everybody to get their power by midnight tonight. pepco and bge still have a few. richard jordan spent the day with some of the unlucky ones. >> reporter: it is down to the wire. most of the power companies said it would take a week before everyone had that power restored. now the last-minute push is on to get every single household back online. the lights are on for most, but there are thousands still in the dark and sweltering in the heat. courtney fletcher says the week has been exhausting. a 3-year-old and 1-year-old to take care of without electricity

>> reporter: pepco has one of the highest outage rates. they say they expect them back online, and they'll try to have every single customer restored by 11:00 p.m. sunday. that storm knocked do you trees all over the place, including arlington cemetery, where shst headstones were knocked off. the cemetery is already working on ordering replacements. in all, eight large trees were lost. 17 smaller trees had to be removed. cleanup crews have been hard at work. the jobs report for june shows another month of disappointing jobs growth. president obama was in ohio, a state doing better than most. steve handlelsman has the lates. >> reporter: the president probably wouldn't campaign in florida or nevada, say, and tell

people that our economy is headed in the right direction, but in the buckeye stays states, where he was again today, their recovery is stronger than most battlegrounds. continuing his tour, he went to a restaurant in akron around the time the bad news came in on u.s. jobs in the month of june. just 80,000 new hires, the third straight month of weak hiring. unemployment stuck at 8.2%, but at a rally, the president looked on the bright side. half a million manufacturing jobs in states like ohio have been regained. >> that's a step in the right direction. . that's a step in the right direction. but we can't be satisfied because our goal was never to just keep on working to get back to where we were back in 2007.

we continue to follow the these are photographs that viewers took from underground. metro says three trains derailed just outside the west high jazzville station. people were taken out through an escape hatch. right now green line service is pantied between fort totten and pring george's plaza. buses are on the way. the north texas toll way authority just released the video. the bus plowed into four cars sending car parts flying all over the road. there were no passengers on the bus at the time. two other people were hurt. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. the bus driver is on paid leave while that happens. chris christie isn't

the haired. i think we'll be setting some records. we'll show you how things are shaping up. plenty of sunshine, not even a cloud in the sky today, in order to give us a bit of shade. there was fortunately a bit of win, though, a bit in the way of atmosphere around the airport. that did help with the humidity. we did hit a high of 99 degrees at the airport today after a high of 100 yesterday. today's record high, by the way, 103, so nowhere close to that record. tomorrow's high 102. this morning, how about 81 degrees to start off the day. that very close to a record low high temperature across the region. just simply amazing how warm we have been. 98 right now, dew point of 60 degrees, humidity level of only 28%. not too humid in most of the area. talk about a record heat wave. we've been 95 or higher for nine days in a row. we've seen three streaks of

eight days in a row, but i think we'll make it to 11 on sunday. out there right now, it is 95 in leesburg. a pair of 95s along the eastern shore. this is star the heat index goes -- add about 10 degrees to these numbers, you could be at 115 at leesburg, 108 in manassas, that's what we expect during the day tomorrow, and that's why we have that excessive heat warning. storm4 radar, we're all clear as far as the rain is concerned. not going to be the case, maybe tomorrow a chance of thunderstorm -- any storms that develop in this intense heat will become strong very easily. i think it will be sunday we do assistant to see a best chance for rain. i think sunday we could see some severe weather. we'll be watching this scenario play out very, very carefully on

checkup. >> reporter: thank you for talking to us first. >> okay. >> reporter: underground there were a lot of folks on the train, they get off and start snapping photos of what it was like. you just heard from the fire chief it was approximately 100 degrees underground as those folks are walking through the tunnel, walking up the ladder to the surface. there's a hatch right over there. it's also important to point out a lot of folks were obviously scared, but no one was injured, but we had one woman who was pregnant. you had her husband with her. you had a family, then they walked over to the ambulance. you're now going to hear from them. >> nervous, you know? you know, because last year got my son, he's crying -- he knows what happened to her, you know. >> what was going through your mind? >> fear. we didn't know what was what.

>> reporter: now, the cause of this derailment is under investigation. the fire chief is on the scene. he will be talking to the firefighters and metro rail efficiency to figure out exactly what happened. hyattsville, i'm shomari stone, news4. thanks. a woman is facing child neglect charges after police discovered a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old child living in deplorable conditions. police say sharon maynard had everything from sharp objects to open pill bottles, even a butane torch laying around the house. they're holding her on $3,000 bond. 100 people cannot go home tonight in woodbridge, virginia. investigators in pring williams county say a propane grill on a

balcony started a four-alamb fire. firefighters worked for hours last night. three of the firefighters were treated for heat-related illnesses. the flames spread quickly from one building to another. the fire marshal's office says grills are not allowed to apartment balconies if there's a roof over the balcony. she claims she has embraced more than 32 million people worldwide. over the weekend over 10,000 people are expected to line up to get a hug from amma. erica gonzalez has more on the so-called hugging saint. >> she's a spiritual leader and humanitarian dubbed the hugging saint. amma is in the midst of her 26 summer tour of north americas. people have traveled from all over. >> i have come from altoona, pennsylvania. >> reporter: the sick and elderly. the heavy-hearted.

. a hospital in texas has stopped kidney transplants after they realized someone got a kidney intended for another patient. the transplant happened last week at the methodist dallas hospital. the hospital says a employees made a mistake. a spokesperson for the hospital says the patient who received the transplant is fine, and has no complications because the kidney was a match the person who made the mistake no longer works there, according to the hospital. a scary moment for a people at a gas station in ohio. the truck seen in this video blew through an intersection, smashed into a pole and then toppled over right next to a pump. it happened yesterday in akron. nobody injured. the driver and his passengers had to be pulled from the cab. they're saying tess bad breaks. the driver walked away with

an update on the metro train derailment we've been telling you about outside the west hyattsville station. this is video from chopper4. you're looking at the cause of the derailment on the right side of your screen. officials are calling this a heat kink. the rail is not straight. this is what is believed to have caused three train cars to go off the tract. 50 people had to be taken out from an escape half. green line is suspended between

fort totten and prince george's station. metro is telling operators to go nor faster than 35 miles an hour because of the heat, that's systemwide. we will continue to following this story and bring you the latest. a flight out of new york headed for trinidad had to be turned after because of an unrulie passenger. authorities say the guy wouldn't stop singing. they say he kept singing very loudly despite 1e6r8 request by crew members to pipe down. when he wouldn't shut up, the pilot turned the plane around, took everybody back to jfk so they could get the guy off the plane. no word what he might have been singing. we assume it might have been "deo." our response was to bake
