102 in fredericksburg, so intense heat again today. there will be a chance for more strong storms over the coming hours, severe thunderstorm watch goes until 10:00 this evening, but the bulk of the severe threat is now out of northern maryland. you can see here there is a stretch of strong thunderstorms just to the south and east. we'll start there, that storm is going eastbound, losing sbrensty, but still that has lightening associated with it. this storm just to the south and east of fredericksburg, this one is producing some small hail and gusty winds as well and then out into southern maryland. this thunderstorm also needs to

be watched carefully over the next couple of hours. so the most biggest threat is down to the south of washington and i think that's where it's going to be stay iing from this point. still 87 here in washington. 75 in lease burg. your sunday evening planner, teps in the low to mid-80s for the next couple of hours, but most of the storms out of here by the 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 time frame. on the seven-day, which includes cooler weather. the festival was supposed to go until 5:30, but closed about an hour ahead of schedule. severe storms weren't what many want to see even if it brings a cooldown. >> reporter: this is cambridge road here behind me and you can see the gray skies in the

distance. we were in the district earlier and headed out i-66 here in fairfax and that's when the storm hit. there was a lot of heavy rain, the most remarkable part was the sky. let's go to some video shot in the last couple of hours. this was on 123, north of i-66 in the vienna area. there was heavy rain, wind gusts, thunder and lightening and it slowed down traffic for a little while as the storm was going through. just a short time ago, we spoke to some drivers on the road when this storm broke. >> i was going to the airport. i was coming here to vienna. the winds here when i was coming here by 143 exit was a lot of lightening and raining. so lights and it was like, you know, non-stop. >> reporter: certainly is a good

thing and you can see that the weather broke here and traffic is moving by. we've got a little bit of a breeze and from the first time in a long time, it actually feels pretty good out here. >> some relief, but some power problems at this hour. just about everyone has power back from last weekend's storm, but the heat in tonight's storms have knocked the power back out in some places. dominion's website is reporting just over 20,000 outages in northern virginia. pepco's listed about 1,900. and a thunderstorm is creating some delays at all three airports in our area. bwi is on a ground stop. same goes for reagan airport, where departures are delayed by an hour and 15 minutes. and stay with us for continuing coverage of this latest round of severe weather. we'll continue to monitor any reports of damage or power

outages throughout the evening. major roadway in our area. three lanes of route 50 had to be blocked because the road had buck buckled. road crews trying to figure out the best way to make repairs. other news now. three children apparently drowned in a creek on maryland's eastern shore. two 12-year-olds and an 8-year-old were reported missing this morning in federalsburg. they were last seen playing in a church parking lot. crews found their bodies across from the church. right now, investigators are sbrer viewing the parents. they do not suspect foul play. authorities are trying to figure out how an 18-year-old died after a house party in indian head, maryland, happened around 3:00 this morning. derrick ward spoke with the teen's father who's asking witnesses to please come forward. >> according to the sheriff's

office, there were reports of shots fired at a house party in indian head. deputies found no evidence of a shooting. they got a call a teen had been brought to the hospital by friends. he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. authorities say he suffered blunt force trauma. >> i had a good son and i loved him very much and we're going to truly miss him. >> as authorities continue their investigation, they are asking anyone who knew more to come forward, echoing a plea from the family of a 18-year-old victim. >> i would like to see people come forward and give the information to the police that they know and i'd like to see the people who did this brought to justice. service remains suspended on metro's green line because of friday's train derailment. crews are repairing the section of bent track outside the station. free shuttle buses are being

d.c. police made an arrest today in connection with a july fourth homicide in northwest. calvin shaw was arrested and charged with the murder. the other three victims are expected to survive. three are dead, four wounded following a violent night across the district. last night, there was a double stabbing on aims street, a double shooting and another double shooting on green street southeast. one person died in each incident except for the shooting on trenton place southeast. police do not believe the incidents are related. a storm clean-up created an

even bigger mess for a homeowner in bethesda. this crane toppled over yesterday while removing a damaged tree. the accident left the the crane operator with a broken leg and the boon damaged the house as well as the neighbors. still, he says it could have been worse. >> it started spilling oil, but luckically, it was on gasoline or there would have been a fire and the house could have burnedburned down. coming up next, chuck tracking the severe storms in our area. stay with us.

republicans and democrats spent the weekend trying to spin friday's job numbers. the gop is calling the president's economic policies broken and the democrats, they're trying to turn the conversation to mitt romney's personal finances. brian mooar has our report from capitol hill. >> reporter: president obama's supporters are working to put a positive spin on friday's disappointing jobs numbers. >> we are at a net positive in jobs in private sector jobs from when president obama took office, so we're continuing to move in the right direction. >> reporter: republicans disagree. >> i don't know if she's on vacation in new hampshire or on r mars, i can't figure it out.

internet doomsday when thousands of americans could lose internet access because the dns changer virus. the fbi busted the hackers behind it and set up temporary servers to provide temporary access for infected computers, but those servers expire after midnight. this site will let you know if your computer is infected. some frightening video of an ak row bat falling off a tight rope in central china and surviving. he was walking more than 650 feet in the air with his eyes covered and then he flipped. he fell when he was almost at the end. he survived. wasn't seriously hurt. he later told chinese television that he felt faint and slipped because of the winds up there. glad he's going to be okay. speaking of winds, we had some winds moving through our area along with some thunderstorms.

>> quite a bit of wind and hail action today. our threat r for severe weather, not completely gone, but it is starting to diminish. the strongest thunderstorms are now to the south of the d.c. metro area and are heading southbound. down along the the northern neck, you are still very much so under the gun. right around town, things have settled down a touch. everybody bringing their boats in off the potomac after a sizzling hot day again today. 102 at national airport. our streak of hot weather though, the best news i can give you, it is coming to an end. one of our coolest 6:00 temperatures in weeks. 86 now at 6:00. dew point at 70. winds out of the west averaging 10 to 15 miles on average. and current temperatures, how about this. 79. again on down, fredericksburg

with 97 an hour ago. 73, rain cooled degrees there. record heat again today. 102 at national airport. that was a daily record. that makes four days in a row. 100 or higher. the only other time we've equalled that was july of 1930 and we've now add 11 days in a row. 95 or higher. that has never been accomplished here as long as we've been keeping weather records since 1874. what about tomorrow? going back to work. start-up temperatures, low 70s. temperatures up to the mid and upper 80s and can't rule out one of two rumbles of thunder, but no severe weather. severe thunderstorm watch goes until 10:00 for these areas shaded. montgomery count, but you can see on radar, northern maryland, things are settling down and by far, the strongest in southern maryland. this is running right now out

over the southern part of the chesapeake bay, so be on the lookout for that. this one here is gone out of fredericksburg, but is headed down towards montrose. be on the lookout for this one to the south of port royal. and more thundershowers towards the blue ridge. but all this is coming to an end as the weather front settles more southbound. it will hang up around the virginia, north carolina border and just sort of wait around a next several days. clouds will hang around and shower chances will linger. we will not be 100 degrees anytime soon. welcome news. headed down to the beach. not the best week at the beach. highs only in the low to mid-80s with clouds and shower chances, but a cool, cloudy week at the beach might feel good after the ten days we've had. lows in the low 70s. tomorrow, cloudy, cooler,
