temperatures in the 60s and 70s now. again, off and on shower chances. plenty of clouds and chances for rain off and on today and tomorrow as well. you will be able to squeeze in a few dry hours. have a back up plan ready to go. now, back to the news. >> thank you, chuck. we begin with a developing story out of afganistan. at least 20 people are dead from a suicide bombing including a high ranking parliament leader. police say the bomber walked up to the politician and detonated his explosives, no group has claimed responsibility. police are searching for a gunman that shot up a vigil.

it was in landover mills around 9:30 last night. he walked up to a man getting out of his car and shot him several times. rescuers took the victim to the hospital in critical but stable condition. >> the main thing right now is we're trying to locate the suspect. hopefully if any witnesses were out and about, saw or heard anything, please provide some information to the police department. >> police right now do not have a description of the gunman or a motive for that shooting. >> metro is back to brooklyn. and you will see delays everywhere you go. there is work on all five lines. the biggest issue is on the blue and yellow lines. that means that the reagan national and crystal city stops will be closed. there will also be single tracking on the red, green, and orange lines. a traffic alert for drivers in

northern virginia this morning. a three mile stretch of the gw parkway will be closed today as crews clean up a tree downed from a store. it it. >> lesley: be between belle view boulevard and collingwood avenue. >> a police officer that made a threat against the first lady is on desk duty. he said he would, quote, take out the first lady at a morning roll call meeting. another often heard it and the secret service are investigating. other officers could be in trouble if they heard it and did not report it. the officers reportedly made the comments during the last rich to

richmond in may. secret was ask agents said there was no criminal wrong doing, they were fired for conduct unbecoming of an officer. >> the president continues his tour today with stops in richmond and in cliffton. he took aim at romney's tax plans. he said he is on the side of american businesses and wants to do everything he can to make sure they succeed. >> he wants to give tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas. i want to give tax breaks to companies investing here in virginia, in american workers, investing in advanced american manufacturing, so we can sell our goods around the world stamped with made in america. >> he shared the stage with mark warner and tim cane.

meanwhile, mitt romney went on the offensive scheduling multiple tv interviews to address his time at bain capital. peter alexander has more on how romney says the president is being dishonest. >> in a heated campaign becoming increasingly nasty, with both teams accusing the other the lying, mitt romney said it's the president being dishonest to the american people. >> the president's campaign has been i think outrageous making the kind of charges they have. the kind of attacks are beneath the dignity. >> they're trying to raise new questions about his business experience at bain capital. especially when he stopped running the private equity firm. he saying he went to turn around the winter olympics. but these documents list him as the chief executive officer in 2000 and 2001.

there was prescriptioner prescription drugs in his home, but no word on if they had a role in his death. this morning, the man charged with killing an unarmed florida teen is asking for a new judge. the attorneys say the current judge is biassed and made remarks about zimmerman. he suggested zimmerman was guilty of other crimes for misleading the court about money he raised online. the files says that zimmerman fears he won't get a fair trial. prosecutors say they object to the question and will respond on monday. a fugitive father accused of kidnapping his kids from their grandmothers and fleeing to tunisia. now he is out of hiding and sharing his story on news 4. we have the exclusive interview. >> really, i'm free. >> in an exclusive interview

washington, but there are plenty of showers on the radar. i'll show you those in a brief second. it is a middle 74 degrees now. temperatures around the rest of the region, we have 66 in hagerstown. close tore the 07 degree mard for loudon and prince william counties. and there is a moderating influence of the warm bay water. if this is your weekend to break away and go down to the beaches, rain chances will follow you all of the way to the beach. not the greatest beach weekend, but sometimes all you need is just two or three hours at the beach. here we are on storm 4 radar, the bulk of the rain now western parts of howard county. it's lifting northbound. the rain drops, again that's

headed northeast bound, and a few more sprinkles out here along interdate 81, and a little rain across parts of western north carolina. that will push the warm, humid ugly air mass that we dealt with a week or so ago has been bottled up. it's starting to go northbound once again. this will provide us with a cloudy and damp start to the weekend. as it lifts, it will act as a focussing mechanism for rain shower chances today, tonight, and tomorrow. we need the rain. we're more than six inches behind for the year, and low pressure coming in late sunday and early monday might bring more chances for showers. it will not rain start to finish for your weekend. today, more clouds an sunshine. that's the rule. passing showers, a rumble or two of thunder, but not much severe weather. highs should generally be below

out of view despite calls for his resignation. three council members have asked him to step down because of an investigation into his 2010 campaign. an aid pleaded guilty to running a $650,000 shadow campaign, but herb nathan says calls for the mayor to step down are premature. >> i know there is interest, i'm certainly interested in the results, but i think we need to wait for the u.s. attorney to complete that investigation. then we'll know what happened. >> i went through my schedule and i continue to keep to my schedule and i'll continue to do that. >> nathan say he believes m.a. your gray is an honest man doing a good job with government affairs. >> he will meet with a handful of officials in hopes of organizing a session on expanded gambling in the state. he will meet with mayor baker.

apartments. one man talked about how helpless he felt watching his neighbors trapped in the building. >> him and his mom and aunt were on the balcony, and i felt helpless. they were screaming, yelling, smoke was pouring all over the place, it was awful. >> no one was seriously hurt in the fire. the red cross is helping those whose homes were destroyed. this story proves you're never too young to be a hero. at a local pool with adults and life guards around, it was a 9-year-old that saved another child. they talked to this young rescuer in this news 4 exclusive. >> june 26th was a busy hot day here at the pool here. she was here with her grandmoth grandmother. the nine year was just about to get out of the water.

a more than $7 million settlement between visa, mastercard, banks, and retailers. they will have to pay retailers $7.3 million for swipe fees paid by stores for years. but those fees are not going away. the settlement changes how they will pay the fees in the future. now the stores can put a sir change on everything you buy if you use plastic. >> and half a million highchairs are recalled because of safety concerns. it has pegs on it's bag legs that can injury children. at least 20 kids have been hurt from them.
