the intense heat. we made 96 in washington and we're down to 92 and rain-cooled 70s out to the west and here's where we could see the showers and thunderstorms moving into parts of lowdown county, and they'll be on the lookout there and that storm is not severe and capable of heavy rain and also capable of heavy showers and plenty of lightning, on the calvert county and an arundel county line. i'll be back in a few more minutes with another update on the forecast. >> those storms have caused a number of power outages. >> to other news tonight, the search is on for a maryland man accused of shooting the mother of his children right in the middle of a nail salon. that man's name is tuan pham. a judge ordered him to stay away from her. instead he arrived at her workplace and opened fire.

we have more from ellicott city. >> reporter: he's accused of shooting his estranged girlfriend at her workplace, the hair and nail care spa as well as her friend, a 40-year-old man from florida who was there to drive her home from work. >> his shirt's covered in blood and he has a gun at his hand, and i'm, like, oh, my god. he has a gun. >> reporter: the gun fire erupted saturday night. pham and the female victim got in a fight and pham shot 34-year-old lan phan of silver spring, his estranged girlfriend. a nail technician who only worked here for a couple of months. >> once i found them i tried to stop their bleeding and checked their pulse to make sure they were alive and tried to keep them alive as best i can. >> reporter: according to court records pham and the gunman have

two children together. the salon did open today and customers are showing their support. >> this area is a nice area, and it's unfortunate that the incident did happen, but once again, it isn't going to deter me from being a patron here. so -- >> you were saying that the business was open today. why is that? >> because they're a part of the community and they run a really wonderful business and they're very kind and i would hate to have something like this affect them. >> reporter: howard county police say both shooting victims remain in critical condition. the owner of the salon says that worker was shot in the shoulder and she is expected to be okay. the gunman is still on the loose. in ellicot city, darcy spencer, news 4. >> the gunman was last seen driving a 1998 tan or gold four-door honda accord with license plate two 91. him you are asked to call howard county police. police say an attempted

robbery in prince georges county ended with one victim accidentally killing another. a group of people were standing near a parked car at 12:30 this morning. three masked men approached and ordered the group on the ground. police say a woman was behind the wheel of the car she became frightened and drove over one of the men who was on the ground and killed them. neighbors are shocked. >> it is a close-knit community, so everybody knows everybody and it was unfortunate that these people -- >> i serve the lord and i pray for protection, but it makes me want to buy a gun. >> police say the robbers ran away after the victim was run over. two times in less than 24 hours, metro is trying to figure out why its computer systems mysterious crashed. the crashes happened in the metro rail command center and it left them unable to see where the trains were on the lines. the first outage happened yesterday afternoon at 1:00 and another outage at 12:30 this morning.

each time train operators were told to go to the nearest station and hold there until the computers were back online. metro says it would have additional rail and i.t. people on hand tomorrow in case something happens during the morning commute. it's been two weeks since the derecho and some people in tacoma park are still trying to get some pretty important repairs made. this pole has been hanging precariously since the storm hit. neighbors say they have power back and phone service and internet, but they can't seem to get anyone to fix the pole. >> we're getting cable and power, and that's all terrific, but this is not and this is a disaster waiting to happen. it's going to block the street. it could possibly hurt a small child. we have a lot of children in the neighborhood. it could possibly hurt an elderly person. we have a lot of elderly people. it can hurt me. >> residents say they've contacted verizon and pepco. when we called pepco the companies it has no record of this problem and that neighbors should call to create a ticket. verizon tells us it's still

looking into the issue. overseas, the conflict in syria is now being called a civil war. the international committee of the red cross made that announcement today. it means that international humanitarian law applies to any area where war is taking place, it gives parties the right to fight, but it also means that any attacks on civilians can be treated as war crimes. the declaration came just after syria denied claims they used heavy weapons against the opposition to president bashar assad. right now u.s. officials are working to secure the release of two americans held hostage in egypt this evening. michael louis, a church member and their egyptian tour guide all kidnapped while traveling in egypt on friday. family and church numbers prayed for them. the pastor's son is concerned for his father's health because he's diabetic. his father was making his annual trip to the holy land. >> it's the opportunity that he

police in falls church are investigating what may be a murder suicide. officers were called to the evening center in the 6700 block of wilson boulevard last night. they found two men who were shot and killed. police say it appears one man took his own life and they're still investigating exactly how the other man died. their iities haven't been released. nba veteran jason kidd is charged with drunk driving this evening after running his suv off the road. police say kidd was arrested just before 2:00 this morning on long island. officers say his cadillac escalade ran off the road and went into the woods. afterward he was charged with

afternoon. so 88 here and all of the 90s disappearing off the map as the cloud deck has thickened up and where you see 70s on the map is where we have seen the rain showers. here's the thunder showers marching in to the immediate d.c. metro area. the showers just on the west side of the capital beltway, right up the 270 spur here and not severe and a quick dousing of rain and rum bells of thunder and near thurmond, and western carroll county, maryland. we've had more severe weather today in and around the fredericksburg area, you're out in the clear for now and you can hear another thunder shower along route one here just to the south of alexandria near mount vernon and out here into portions of charles county drifting generally eastbound and the thunderstorm now out over the open waters of the bay and headed out toward tillman island and the eastern shore where they have pretty strong thunderstorms in central del aware and a powerful cluster of storms just

to the north of richmond. at the track it's going, and it might graze southern st. mary's county where you might have severe weather earlier today. be on the look out from that two to three hours from now. scattered storms through 7:00 and most of this should be ending earlier than yesterday leaving us with a cloudy and muggy evening. so the evening storms are fading away quickly and most have been dealing with daytime heating. start off temperatures well into the 70s tomorrow morning and then tomorrow afternoon, the high heat and humidity return and they'll be here for monday and they'll be here for tuesday and it will be here for wednesday. be ready for a nasty, hot stretch of weather. if you're headed to the beach. a good time to go to the beach. and then just plain old hot weather at the beach. ocean water temperature, 79. so overnight, most storms gone until midnight and lows in the 70s and for tomorrow, more sun, warmer and smaller storm chances
