professionalism people should remember will be there. i think these g4s guards will be doing some screening, certainly looking at bags and things like that. clearly the london organizers and police and miller are going to have to deploy an alternative plan here. the point has always been on the hardened sites, olympic venues, the level of security was not dependent on the g4s officials but real professionals. in other venues, what we call softer targets, large public facilities, the lack of guards like the g4s guards is going to cause some concerns. >> london, of course, is a major metropolitan area that's dealt with terrorism concerns for years. how confident are you in the city's ability to handle these concerns? is most of the security in terms of cameras and electronics and things we don't see? >> savannah, london is one of the most secure cities in the world. it's on par with new york in terms of level of capability and experience. because of what they have had to deal with.
7:15 am
i think the targets some people worry about, certainly they are completely secure. again, these soft target areas are the ones you have to worry about. u.s. officials don't see any type of organized, sophisticated threat right now. what they are worried about is the individual, lone wolf or something like that, who decides to take advantage of this massive media spotlight on london in the next couple of weeks. that's what they are going to be looking at. i think the security situation, what they have deployed, is going to get them through it. >> good to get your perspective this morning, thank you. 7:15,000. here is matt. >> presidential race speculation growing mitt romney is getting closer to deciding on his vice presidential running mate. nbc's peter alexander has more on that and the latest from the campaign trail. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. if mitt romney is going to announce his vp pick this month he has to do it soon. he heads overseas beginning at the olympics. his staff is going to go to great lengths to keep any possible decision a secret. listen to this, "new york times"
