right. that's why it's good to go. 81 the temperature for saturday. 86 degrees on sunday. sunday your better day out of the weekend but with this rain coming in tonight we could get another one plus inch of rain in some spots that get hit with those thunderstorms. >> thanks veronica. >> some years back i went up to new york city to see a friend and i will never forget that visit because of the assault on my senses particularly my nose. there had been a strike by sanitation workers there and the city stank to the high heavens. it was awful. i was away last week and part of this week and when i returned i had to hold my nose because my city stinks. there's no garbage piled up in the streets, no strike, but the odor is awful. the reference here of course is to the scandal involving the mayor, some city officials and political operatives over allegations in some cases evidence in others of corruption, political, trickery, deceit and lies. recent "the washington post" poll reveals the effect of it

all on the public consciousness. 54% who feel the mayor should resign nearly half the people saying the city is going in the wrong direction. i have a different view. take the latter one first. city is not going in the wrong direction. by almost every measure that counts this city is on a roll. some of us have been here long enough to remember when washington really was going down the tubes. that is not what's happening now. what's missing now is the kind of leadership that might otherwise be in evidence except for the paralysis caused by corruption. as for the mayor resigning absolutely not. at least not right now. this stink on the city, the mayor can clean up like that. what i would love to see the mayor do now is man up. in spite of the advice of counsel. if mr. mayor, you did not know about the shadow campaign, proclaim it now.

loudly. clearly. if you did know, proclaim it now. loudly. and clearly. in spite of the advice of counsel. in grand and glorious fashion do one final time what you've done for more than 40 years of this city and that is serve the city well the city you say and few doubt that you do truly love.
