a day's long search comes to a tragic end. two climbers killed in the mountains of peru. good evening. rescuers have now recovered the bodies of 32-year-old ben horn and his climbing companion, gill ri rice. yesterday, their bodies were found in a central part of the country. derrick ward spoke with horn's friends and family today. >> reporter: the accident happened in peru, horn, seen on

the left with gill rice, had made it to the summit. west peak. 20,000 foot assent, on their way down, they fell from a ridge. >> most everything ben did in life, he loved. >> reporter: his family now deals with the devastating loss. comes from the full life ben had already lived in his 32 years. >> the way he lived his life was very principled and based on his love of nature, the outdoors, god and challenges. >> reporter: he had been an eagle scout and served in the peace corps. his sister recalls that for ben, it was not radical or extreme challenges that drove him up a mountain. it was within himself. >> he wanted to seek truth and better himself.

>> reporter: to scale heights that most of us can only spy when the clouds allow. >> mountains are not -- satisfy my ambition to achieve, they are where i crafted my religion. >> reporter: and in another quote, he expressed at the death of his grandmother. >> i guess god wanted to beef up the the ranks in heaven. >> reporter: derrick ward, news 4. police sources tell news 4 a man suspected of killing a jeweler in arlington could be linked to a jewelry store robbery in d.c. police released surveillance pictures of the man they say broke into capital jewelers on friday. police say he stole jewelry and killed the 52-year-old man working inside. the victim's name has not been released. the man accused of opening fire in a colorado theatre will not face additional charges

after one victim suffered a miscarriage. ashley mooser is recovering from surgery. her family says she may be paralyzed. legal experts say the suspect will not face an additional homicide charge. that's because a child needs to be born to be considered alive in colorado. she also lost her daughter, veronica, in the shooting. holmes will be charged tomorrow. penn state university says it will probably take out a long-term loan to pay the fine against the athletic department. the combination of funds will be used to pay the the fine. it was part of a punishment for the university's cover up of child sex abuse claims against jerry sandusky. other sanctions included a loss of scholarships and four-year bowl ban. coach paterno's wins have been

the company is asking state regulators to increase its rates. electric bills would go up by more than 6%. the average home would pay an extra $7 per month. gas bills would go up 8%. they say the money would go towards replacing powerlines and upgrading gas lines. if approved, the hike would go into effect in february. starting tomorrow, metro customers at two busy stations will be able to pay for parking with their cell phones. the program is launching at the ford, tottenham and rockfield stations. metro customers will be able to pay by phone in the kiss and ride lots of both stations and the surface lot. if the program's successful, metro could expand it to other stations. up next, chuck's going to tell us which day to pack your umbrella and after the olympic,

this about we're going to need an umbrella one day this week and you're going to tell us which day. >> we need every drop we can get, even though we don't like getting the rain on the weekends, we're more than seven inches behind, so we appreciate the sunny days, rain drops are in the forecast and that's not necessarily a bad thing. but the sunshine today was a treat in and of itself. also, just standing there and getting sprayed by nice, cool water on a summer day. perfect weather to get outside and enjoy our only 90-degree heat today as opposed to the 97 yesterday. that fountain is in georgetown, where you can do this. just go to the boat house and rent yourself a little kayak or buy yourself one of those bad boys. that's a little better than a kayak. plenty of sunshine. 89 degrees at national airport. dew points today, the the difference maker between yesterday and today. yesterday, it was up in the 70-degree range.

today, down in the low 60s and that makes it more comfortable to be outside. plus, the the fact most places topped out around 90 degrees today. and storm 4 radar, which was full of showers yesterday, has only a few lonesome drops for your sunday evening. one little shower just under manassis and the park. another shower on top of maryland drifting south on 301. only going to last about five minutes and one near salisbury, maryland. toward ocean pine and ocean city, but no big, severe weather anywhere in the mid-atlantic today. that is welcome news. little trough of low pressure tomorrow and an increasing chance for tuesday, so mild and dry through the overnight hours tonight. there's that little trough of low pressure sneaking onshore as it comes into the higher temperatures, it will kick off showers and monday and tuesday's the real big question.
