made. phil rogers is joining us from london with more. >> reporter: good evening. day eight here in london. the olympic debut of a barrier-breaking athlete and a god medal for a tennis superstar. serena williams added gold to her already stellar resume saturday as she became only the second woman after steffi graf to win a so-called golden slam, an olympic singles title along with all four major tennis crowns. >> continues from the u.s. >> reporter: america's bryan brothers also took gold in the men's double competition. and at the olympic stadium -- history was made today as south africa's oscar pistorius mown as the blade runner became the first amputee to compete in track and field in the olympic games. >> all the guidance from my team paid off and let me perform on the days when it matters. >> going for gold.

mothers gathered on the national mall to make a

statement about breast feeding in public. the message, breast feeding is a healthy and natural part of motherhood. a d.c. mother organized the nurse-in after hearing several stories of women being harassed for breath feeding in public. and tax free shopping in virginia knop sales tax for school supplies under $20 as well as clothes and shoes under $100. virginia's tax-free weekend ends tomorrow. maryland will have an entire week of tax-free shopping starting august 12th. a thank you sale back fired big time for south west. the airline offered a half price ticket promotion. when customers bought their tickets online a lot of them found out they were billed more than once. some even billed dozens of times leading to thousands of dollars in charges. a lot of frustrated people then waited hours on hold to speak to customer service reps. southwest is blaming a computer glitch. the company says it will refund any extra charges. coming up next, a wildfire

firefighters in oklahoma are hard at work tonight battling a series of wildfires. earlier today the governor there visited the area. he promised assistance to those who lost their homes as well as justice since at least one blaze appears to be arson. brian mooar has the story. >> reporter: touring a community reduced to ashes by a wildfire, oklahoma's governor offered aid and comfort. >> one thing about oklahomans, neighbor helps neighbor, and we're good at overcoming bad circumstances. >> reporter: and it doesn't get much worse. many of these residents are left with little more than memories. >> we are able to salvage some of our stuff. i'm still pretty numb from it. this is the house i grew up in. so -- it's pretty hard. to see everything gone. >> reporter: the luther fire is one of dozens burning in oklahoma. nourished by gusting winds, drought and record-high temperatures.

thousand. you were telling me yesterday the high temperature was 100 and -- what? >> 113 degrees, the actual air temperature in oklahoma city yesterday. that tied the all-time record high temperature for them. the only other time oklahoma city has ever reached 113 degrees, literally, in the dust bowl august of 1936. unprecedented heat out there. continues today. temperatures flirting with 110 or higher across most of central oklahoma and the wind, as you saw in the fire video, just howling. a terrible situation for them. we also were sweating it out today here in the washington area. 96 degrees, our high temperature. sounds cool compared to 113, but, boy, if you spent any time outside today moving around, no doubt, you were covered in beads of sweat in no time. oh, why don't i have friends with a boat? why, why, why? 96 degrees, our high today. after a 79-degree start this morning. that is another roshd high minimum temperature.

the old record high minimum for the day, 78 set back in 2006. and as of the 6:00 hour, it's still plenty steamy out there. 95 degrees, a nice south breeze at 13 miles per hour. that's been the one thing today that's really helped a little bit, is that southerly breeze. temperatures around the rest of the metro area still generally in the mid-90s. low 90s down to the south and upper 80s across the high spots, north and west of town. as you make plans to enjoy your saturday evening, a few isolated storms on radar, should be gone by 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 and most dry through the overnight hours. a look at live doppler. nothing to worry about in and around wn. a couple lonesome sprinkles, southern most pennsylvania, chambersberg, pennsylvania, right along interstate 81 here south of leray. and if they live long enough, three or so hours away from staying up to parts of search loudoun county if they make it. most of that activity starts to

fade away closer and closer to sunset, and that little patch is all there is. can't say your rain chances are zero but they are fairly low for this evening. so spotty storms. that's it. most will be gone by midnight. humid through the overnight hour it's tonight, and another real steamy start first thing tomorrow morning. what's different about tomorrow than today? the approach of a weather front from the north and west. that will be the trigger that we freed in the atmosphere to turn all the heat and humidity, just like today, into showers and thunderstorms, which i think are fairly likely by tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow night and early monday. so be ready for that. headed out to the beaches. hot tomorrow. stormy at the beaches monday. good weather after that. for us, just passing clouds and muggy. overnight low, 68. high spots north and west of town, about 76 in town, you folks in annapolis and along the bay might not get much below 80. tomorrow, sunshine to start, but increasing clouds during the day. rain and thunderstorms likely starting mid to late afternoon. unfortunately, a chance for

eight innings, a couple strikeouts. kept the team as far as i can in the game. so the best i can do is just take it and keep moving forward. >> yeah. he threw great i think. one of those games where we ran into a pitcher that threw a little bitter. both of those guys threw great games and had good stuff. anytime you strike out double digit guys, it means you have good stuff. so. >> all right. orioles down in tampa taking on the rays last night. not good outing for the birds. bottom four. tommy on the mound pitching to upton. ooh. that's gone. upton's 100th career home run and the orioles lose 2-0 to the rays. now the olympics not the only international competition going on this weekend. the world golf championships. bridgestone invitational is heating up in akron, ohio. to the action there in beautiful akron. i love the game of golf, and so does jim furyk.
