himself. julie carey will be heading to tampa for the republican national convention this month. she will have reported starting sunday night august 26th. coming up on news4 at 11:00. a family of five is homeless tonight after a fire burned their two story house. soming residents barely made it out in time. darcy spencer tells us what the neighbors heard before the home went up in flames. >> i got a phone call saying my house was on fire. >> reporter: mr. miles raced home and found his family barely escaped being hurt in the fire. a fire that started around the power lines in his home. >> my sister, her husband, my two nieces were asleep. my neighbor opened the door and tried to get everybody out and make sure everything was okay. >> reporter: a neighbor ran out to his work van and grabbed his

fire extinguisher but it was no match for the flames. he tried to put the fire out and banged on the door of the home, making sure no one was left inside. >> there was one guy inside. and i told him, come out. >> reporter: he and other neighbors describe a loud sound and a fire on the power line they believe led into the home. washington gas and pepco crews responded. >> i heard a big loud boom and the electricity went off. >> we're trying to get out of the car and one of the transformer boxes blew up. >> reporter: fire investigators say the blaze was electrical in nature. family members are glad only material things were lost. >> i thank my neighbor and thank god everybody's okay. >> reporter: darcy spencer, news4. a shakeup in staffing at two fire stations in prince george's county. four firefighters from the riverdale station will be reassigned to riverdale heights.

president clinton and a bi-partisan congress helped end welfare as we know it, by requiring work for welfare. but on july 12th, president obama quietly announced a plan to gut welfare reform by dropping work requirements. under obama's plan, you wouldn't have to work, and wouldn't have to train for a job -- they just send you your welfare check. and welfare to work goes back to being plain, old welfare. mitt romney will restore the work requirement, because it works. chad ocho cinco johnson is behind bars in florida tonight accused of headbutting his wife. the two got in an argument over a we have reseat for condoms. the fight started and got heated and johnson headbutted her. she was treated for a forehead cut. he is charged with domestic violence and could be in jail until monday. the two just got married last month. one of the healthiest items on mcdonald's menu is being recalled. the company that gives mcdonald's apple slices thought listeria on its equipment. they shipped to d.c., virginia, maryland and west virginia. mcdonald's has stopped serving
