brian mooar has the story. >> reporter: mitt romney took his new running mate for a test ride in nascar country. >> you know what, north carolina? we can do better than this. help is on the way. >> reporter: with these overflow crowds in north carolina are any indication, republicans are embracing paul ryan as romney's pick. overnight, the house budget committee chairman and powerful wisconsin congressman has become the big draw on the campaign trail. he's the last missing chess piece in the 2012 presidential race. >> i'm so proud to have him on our team and to make sure we take back america. >> reporter: ryan has given a much needed shot in the arm to the romney campaign that seemed stuck in low gear. >> we're in this together. we're going to get the country back on the right track. >> reporter: in chicago, president obama welcomed ryan to the race. >> congressman ryan is a decent man, he is a family man.

he's an articulate spokesman for governor romney's vision, but it's a vision that i fundamentally disagree with. >> brian mooar reporting there. julie kerry will be in tampa for the convention coming up this month. she'll have live reports starting sunday night august 26th. maryland's house of delegates will consider the governor's bill tomorrow in a special session. if passed, the legislation would pave the way for table games and add a casino in prince gorgeous's county. the senate passed the bill friday. even if gets the dgo ahead, the measure needs final approval from the voters in november. hundred of worshippers gathered today at a sikh temple in milwaukee.

it was the first service since a gunman opened fire on august 5th. the service capped a weekend of events, meant to honor those killed and restore the temple as a place of worship. in washington, there will be a vigil to honor the victims. sikh priests will read hymns to honor the lives lost. >> it's like a bullets have hit our hearts. we have all come together as a family. it's a family afire and what we feel is this is not -- it's an american tragedy. >> yesterday, this temple held a service to pray for the sikh temple in wisconsin. in a show of solidarity against hate crimes. after a long, difficult rehab, gabrielle giffords is heading back home to arizona. just weeks after she was shot in
