game and never came home. shamari stone has reaction tonight from the victim's mother. >> reporter: alfred wouldave turned 20 years old this saturday. one minute he's having food here inside the tgi friday's in bowie. the next minute he's pronounced dead at the hospital tonight. his mother is heartbroken. >> she breaks down in tears as she thinks about the murder of her oldest son alfred. >> reporter: prince george's county police say alfred was killed early friday morning after an argument inside this tgi friday's restaurant. alfred's sister tells me he and a couple of friends drove here. >> to watch a game. >> reporter: the redskins. suddenly someone got in a dispute with alfred. he walked out. >> and they were on their way home. they were trying to avoid the

confrontation. >> moments later the killer shoots him and takes off. alfred's friends drove him to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. he was only 19 years old. >> he went to eat. it's not like they were at a club. >> reporter: he recently earned a dialysis degree and was currently looking for a job. >> my brother was one of the most friendliest people that you could ever meet out here. >> reporter: police are still talking to witnesses, looking at surveillance video to see who the shooter was. tonight, alfred's mother hopes they catch the person so she can understand why her son was killed. >> that's all i want to know so that i can know why. what really happened. >> reporter: tonight, police don't have the suspect's description. i'm shamari stone, news 4. tonight the naacp is getting involved after a police officer was captured on camera apparently slapping a man. you can see cell phone video of the incident last month. the officer appears to slap or punch a man who has been accused of disorderly conduct. >> it's under full

investigation. we've been notified that we're going to be sued. the attorney is right behind you. you are well aware of that. and the advice of our attorney, we won't make any comments. >> the officer was attempting to correct the suspect -- correct the suspect's behavior and i wanted to know if correction was a part of the police procedures and responsibility. >> the mayor would not say the current status of the officer involved. a diplomat's daughter is recovering after being hit by a metro bus in northwest d.c. tonight. it happened about 7:00 near the intersection of wisconsin avenue and jennifer street. the girl was conscious and alert after the accident. relatives showed up at the scene and told us she's the daughter of an argentinean diplomat. they are trying to figure out if she was in a crosswalk. a growing mystery over a fire and death. a woman is found inside an apartment complex but investigators still don't know what killed her. firefighters responded to the scene around 4:00 this afternoon. these pictures from chopper 4. by the time they got inside, a

woman was already unconscious. she was later pronounced dead at the hospital. it is not clear yet whether the woman died as a direct result of a fire and it's not clear what caused that blaze. prince george's county homicide detectives have now joined the investigation. dramatic new pictures just in from stafford as an assisted living center goes up in flames. this fire destroyed the group home for special needs adults. chopper 4 was over the scene off whispering pines lane around 4:30 this afternoon. no one was inside the building when the fire broke out. investigators are still working to figure out what sparked the blaze. clouds are rolling in right now and a threat of strong storms throughout tomorrow. doug is tracking the changes. what's the latest? >> some of it could be severe during the day. we'll watch this scenario very closely. this is not going to be a widespread severe weather event. but this is going to give us the potential for some rather strong storms. 80 degrees the current temperature out there. winds out of the south at 14

miles per hour. and that has brought up our dew point into the mid to upper 60s. that's going to help to fuel ose storms tomorrow. right now on's radar, nothing to show you in the immediate area. as we widen out, here's where the showers are. just now beginning to make their way in toward ourselves region. some toward charlottesville. these will be the first wave as they make their way throughout the rest of the evening into the overnight hours. and maybe into tomorrow morning. and then we'll watch more significant weather begin to try to make its way in here during the day tomorrow. once again, some of these storms could be quite strong. potentially severe. we'll talk much more about that. i'll give you the timing and let you know who i think has the best risk of seeing some of those severe storms. >> tense moments on the campaign trail today for mitt romney's running mate paul ryan. the wisconsin congressman gave his first solo speech today as candidate for vp at the iowa state fair. the republican ignored hecklers who rushed the stage during his remarks. >> president obama has given us

bay. he swam to shore, climbed an eight-foot fence, walked right past motion sensors and security cameras and right into terminal 3 where he asked a delta employee for help. the man is charged with criminal trespassing. new details in a shooting rampage just blocks from the texas a&m campus. police have identified the gunman as 35-year-old thomas caffel. he shot and killed a police constable and another man. the constable had been serving an eviction notice. three others were injured during the exchange before officers shot and killed the suspect. a decorated marine from fairfax was killed in afghanistan over the weekend. gunnery sergeant ryan jeshke died during combat operations in helmand province. he was a 12-year marine corps veteran. he was a purple haerlt recipient and also awarded four navy marine corps achievement medals, two combat action ribbons and four good conduct medals. sergeant ryan jeshke was 31

years old. the maryland department of health and mental hygiene confirms its first case of west nile virus in a human over the weekend. the virus was also detected in a pool of mosquitoes collected in montgomery county. health officials are telling people to get rid of any standing water around their homes that can attract mosquies and they can breed there. they also suggest avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities at dawn and dusk. that's when mosquitoes are most active. plus use insect repellent and wear long sleeves and pants if you plan to spend any amount of time outside. in dallas county, texas, officials just confirmed a tenth person has died after contracting the west nile virus. dallas will begin aerial spraying this week. now ft. worth is considering doing the same. there is a debate about the effectiveness of targeted ground spraying. and officials are also setting mosquito traps, but they say the actions of homeowners are the most important. >> end of the day, you know, we can spray up and down the

street. we can aerial spray. we can do spraying until the cows come home. but it's people's personal protection and what they do at their own homes. >> the aerial sprague this week will be the first time it's been done here in 50 years. maryland special session on gambling is bringing competition to the national harbor. today the house added several changes to expanded gambling in the state. one new amendment allows rosecroft raceway to make a bid. it's been considered the likely spot for a new casino. another change allows existing casinos to pay slightly less in taxes to make up for the new competition. a final vote on the bill is expect tomorrow. d.c. diners are excited about restaurant week. the event started today. it goes through next sunday. many restaurants in the city like oyamel are offering special menus. dinner costs $35.12 a person. lunch goes for $20.12. that includes an appetizer, main

a night of entertainment gave way to some scary moments at indiana's state fair yesterday. a horse drawn stage coach suddenly flipped over during a warm-up for the main event at the pepsi coliseum. five people were hurt. investigators say it's going to take them some time to figure out what led up to the accident. safety has been top of mind for indiana state fair officials this year. last year, high winds toppled the stage during the fair killing seven people. >> and an 81-year-old man is stripped of his driver's license after this wild ride. drivers had to swerve out of the way as the guy drove his car and camper down a busy freeway in australia on the wrong side of the road. get this. he did it for almost eight miles before being stopped. the incident happened in february but he's just now being punished. attorneys argue the man unknowingly suffered a stroke and was confused. an outpouring of support for a lake braddock high school baseball player who was

paralyzed while on vacation in hawaii. an ambulance carrying him to the med star national rehab hospital stopped so he could hear the cheers from his family. his vacation was on vacation for just one day when he did a flip and landed badly. yesterday his family got some great news on his recovery. >> we hadn't seen come any movement since the accident happened. and so he started moving his knees. i think both knees. and i saw it myself yesterday. so it's like, okay. this is a great sign. and his physical therapist was saying that was amazing. >> this month, two of nick's baseball teammates used donated frequent flyer miles to travel to hawaii to encourage him. the fallout continues for chad ochocinco johnson. today, vh1 pulled a new reality series based on johnson and his wife. the show was supposed to be a spinoff of lazada's current show

"basketball wives." last night, the miami dolphins fired johnson after he was arrested for domestic abuse. he faces up to a year in jail in convicted. a big twist on "the voice" this season. today the show's executive producer revealed the coaches will be able to steal contestants from each other during the battle rounds. the voice is also adding a knockout round to cut the number of singers on each team. christina aguilera and c. lo green are back. they'll have chairs for life even if they eventually need to take time away for their careers. people across the country are mourning a publishing legend and pioneer in the sexual revolution. helen girley brown died today. she was 90 years old. brown first became famous with her best selling book "sex and the single girl." that was back in 1962. but her legacy is cosmopolitan magazine. she was hired to run it back in 1965 and led cosmo for the next

much of a severe weather day. will we see storms? yes, the potential is there. we'll see a few of them. they can still drop gusty winds. upwards of 30, 40, 50, 60 miles an hour. we could still have some trees down and could be isolated power outages. once again, i do not expect to see thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of people without power. last time with that derecho, 1.5 million people without power in our region. that will not happen again. temperatures today, 90 degrees. low of 72. great today. yes, we are watching the chance for storms tomorrow. so you want to make sure when you step out the door tomorrow morning you take the umbrella. you may need it. we already have some showers moving in. 80 degrees right now at the airport. winds out of the south at 14 miles per hour. dew point right now 67. so the humidity coming up just a little bit gives that atmosphere a little bit more moisture to work with to kick off some of those storms. currently 72 in martinsburg. 68 in frederick. 74 in la plata.

frederks burg, 75 degrees. on the radar, nothing show you. around the immediate area. watch what happens when we zoom out. already some showers making their way into southern portions of virginia and west virginia. even some enhanced showers now. and just seeing here the first bolt of lightning. we could see some thunderstorms tonight and into early tomorrow morning. even 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 as you are getting up and making your way to work. could be some thunderstorms out there. i don't anticipate a lot early. if we see some sunshine, and the sunshine would come between this line and this line back here if we see some sunshine, then we could see the better chance for some severe weather during the day. yesterday that severe weather down here towards dallas, texas. take a look at this. 70-mile-an-hour winds through the ft. worth airport there right around the dallas area. numerous planes were just thrown around by that 70-mile-an-hour wind. you can see the damage there. i believe over a dozen planes were injured -- or were hurt by that. if planes have any feelings and can get hurt. that's exactly what happened.

>> damaged. >> planes were damaged. there you go. >> as far as what's going to happen for us, we're going to see that slight risk of severe storms come through. washington, baltimore, into most of northern virginia. even the panhandle of west virginia. best chance for severe weather. once again, just a slight risk here. a 30% chance of severe weather in this region. so you want to watch out for that during the day tomorrow. here's why. we've got that area of low pressure off to the west that will make its way in here. we'll see scattered thunderstorms during the day tomorrow and maybe even on wednesday. although the front should be far enough to the south and east where most of the storms should be. we'll watch out for wednesday, too. could be some showers during the afternoon on wednesday. tomorrow morning, mostly cloudy with isolated showers possible. maybe even a rumble of thunder. take the umbrella. 66 to 76 degrees. as you make your way through tomorrow afternoon. 85 to 90 degrees. mostly cloudy. thunderstorms likely and some of them, once again, will be on the strong side. next couple of days, i think we're going be seeing things
