differed out of 2 million base pairs out of 6 million. that's a match. >> reporter: armed with that knowledge, the hospital took even more extraordinary measures. a special isolation ward was constructed. items like blood pressure cuffs and monitors were disposed of after one use. the area was subjected to potent hydrogen peroxide fuming. staff even went so far as to dismantle and bleach shower drains. and they made sure their scrubs and gowns were launderred at all times. >> it's rare to call them heroes, but this study could have a worldwide impact on the epidemic of hospital infections. jackie bern son, news4. several people, including four children, are in the hospital tonight after a boating accident near annapolis. the coast guard and search teams worked to search the waters after two boats crashed near

pasadena, maryland. here's more on what those boats were doing in the water. >> i'm here on the dock of the nagasi river. this is the boat that was hit, according to witnesses. you can see all the damage here. let's take a quick walk over here, and they tell me there was two children on this, too. the two children, along with the others on this boat, were transported to the hospital. chopper 4 flew over the scene as witnesses say a five-year-old girl, a 12-year-old, an eight-year-old and another child were taken to waiting ambulances. two adults were also transported moments after a boat accident in pasadena's magathi river. it was his 12-year-old son on the bow rider. witnesses said they were pulling this child and another child in a tube, having a good time. >> another boat was coming at a fast rate of speed. >> alan watched from his dock. he said this speedboat with one

man on board slammed into the boat rider. >> they had a head-on collision, and the bay area boat went straight up in the air and two people went airborne. >> take a look at this speed boat taking on water. notice the damage to the driver's seat. he was also hurt in the crash. the national research officers searched the water while a helicopter looked from above. fortunately, everyone was found and ambulances drove them to the hospital. police haven't released medical conditions, but teresa taylor is relieved. her stepson is okay. >> as far as i know, they just took him to hopkins and he's just having some pain in his neck. >> you can see right now this is a department of resources vessel, and basically that is a police officer, and he told me they are going to be investigating to figure out what exactly happened out here on the water. they will be talking to the different witnesses. on the magasi river, i'm shamari stone. there are some changes to the deadly train derailment in

maryland. officials at the cxs train operation said they expect to resume train operations through that area sometime tonight. however, streets near the site of the derailment will remain closed while they continue with their cleanup efforts. in the meantime, funeral services will be held later this week for the two young women who were killed by that derailment, elizabeth nass and rose mayr were sitting on the bridge just a few feet from the tracks yesterday when that train derailed. the two 19-year-olds were found under a pile of coal that was dumped from one of the freight cars. today they said that train was traveling at a legal speed of 25 miles an hour. an engineer in training was at the controls. they say it is too early to say why that train derailed. funeral services will be held next tuesday for the 22-year-old police officer killed in a high-speed chase on i-95. officer adrian morris was killed on monday while chasing two

suspects in a stolen car. one of those suspects, kenneth clark mitchell, jr. was arrested yesterday and charged with auto theft. police are still looking for kevon nealneal. they're offering a $25,000 reward for his arrest. they also plan to honor officer morris in a moment of silence before the game on sunday. a man accused of shooting a security guard at the research council was taken to trial today. he was charged for the shooting last week at the downtown headquarters. the group recently supported chick-fil-a who recently supported same-sex marriage. mccorkin also had 15 sandwiches with him at the time. hugoly is waiting to hear his sentence for murder. a judge today reject his plea

tore a new trial. he is accused of beating his girlfriend, yeardley love, to death back in 2010. his lawyers claim there were several errors in the trial, but the judge ruled that there was ample efrd vidence to support t conviction. when he is sentenced, huguely faces 20 years in prison. romney is waiting to get the debate off the plate and back onto abortion. todd aiken has apologized for saying it is almost impossible for women to get pregnant during what he called a legitimate rape. today while delivering cookies to reporters on the campaign bus, ryan revealed what he said to aiken yesterday. >> as you would imagine. i'll keep it between us, but i agree with roy and jack danforth

and the rest of the people from the missouri delegation. he should have dropped out of the race, but he's not. he's going to run his campaign, we're going to run ours. >> reporter: ryan also answered questions about his own record, including previously supportive abortion laws which did not include exceptions in the case of rape. he says he is proud of his pro-life record. emergency officials in florida along with organizers at the republican national convention are already preparing for tropical storm isaac. the rnc kicks off in tampa next week, and officials are preparing should the storm head their way. storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer has more on its projected path. doug? >> reporter: brand new information coming in from the hurricane center. isaac has not intensified as of the latest advisory, but looking at some of the latest data, it looks like it is trying to undergo some intensification. we will know this as early as

tomorrow morning. as of 11:00, winds at 45 miles an hour, moving to the west at 20 miles an hour, and on that path, it will still go south of puerto rico. biggest impacts there are going to be rain and some winds, but not big impact for puerto rico. the biggest impact will be toward hispanola and even haiti. potential for 20 inches of rain. it is expected to be a hurricane by that time and make its way across to cuba potentially, and then very close, the east coast of florida and the gulf of mexico. but the middle of that cone right over south florida and the tampa region. i'll let you know what i think this storm will do, and we'll talk about the next couple days in our area. >> thanks, doug. tomorrow marks one year since this area was shaken by a 6.5 magnitude earthquake. the tremors were felt in canada.

since that aftershocks were recorded. since that day, the monument sustained damage. there are cracks that need to be repaired. repairs are expected to cost nearly $15 million. the monument will not reopen to the public until sometime in 2014. the former president of penn state fired back at a report that claims he tried to cover up jerry sandusky's sex abuse. lawyers for graham held a press report saying he never heard any claims of sex abuse. louis freed found that several of them covered up abuse by sandusky of children. he has not been charged criminally. we got a first look today at the meters that will allow all

flames exploded in northern california. 2,000 men and women are attacking that wildfire that's threatening hundreds of homes. the national guard is now being called in to help. dozens of structures have already burned. it's part of the worst wildfire season on record out west. health officials confirmed tonight the current west nile virus outbreak is the largest in u.s. history. the first case in the district was reported today. over 100 cases have been reported in 38 states. 41 people have died, 26 of them in texas. because it is still early in west nile season, health officials only expect the number of cases to increase. it's expected to be one of the biggest books of the year. a detailed first person account of the raid that killed osama bin laden, and it's set to be released on september 11. the book was written by one of the navy seals who took part in the mission. for security reasons, the author's name will be listed urpd tunder the pseudonym mark

dutton. officials won't say how closely the book was vetted by the government. police say 37-year-old andrew alevi was waiting for his plane that was headed for dallas when he ran across the airport jetway and then locked himself in the cockpit of an empty american eagle plane. after trying to negotiate with him, police cut off oxygen and power to that plane. the guy ultimately surrendered. alevi was arrested but no charges have been filed yet. that american eagle flight was canceled as a precaution. a flight from seattle to newark was delayed today after the pilot accidentally deployed that plane's emergency slide. the pilot was helping a flight attendant close the main passenger door. it was a boeing 757. the plane was full. as the pilot yanked the door

several times, the door dislodged. the emergency chute was deployed. the slide was replaced. the plane took off about two hours late. german chancellor angela merkle is one of the most powerful women in the world. she's being honored for her handling of the euro crisis and preserving the european union. she's joined on this list by number 2, secretary of state hillary clinton and jill marusef, the president of brazil, rounds out the top three. that has not changed since last year. they honored the late godfather of yoga today. he professed it chuck brown day. they made plans for a permanent chuck brown memorial in yangley park in the northeast. he found it important to keep the legacy alive.

we saw them over nats park once again for the third day in a row. down by the airport, though, not a whole lot of rain reported. you can see the airport right now is on the dry side. here's the radar over the last six hours. you notice clear right now, but here's where the showers were, and again, some very heavy downpours coming through the rockville area, down mcclain, down through southeast washington. annandale seeing some of that heavy rain. and we are dry across the area and start to go dry out just a little bit. we need to see the rain. out to the west, you may see some fog as a result of that rain when you wake up tomorrow morning. the high today, 86 degrees. average high for today. i think we have great weather ahead. most of us stay on the dry side. can't rule out a few isolated showers, and any showers that do develop could create some heavy downpours again. winds, they're on the calm side. we have seen some nice, cool

evenings, nice, cool morpnings, and that's what we'll deal with tonight. coming in at culpepper at 74 degrees. we had some cloud cover come across, and with all the sunshine today, we saw some showers and thunderstorms back toward the mountains. they did cross our region. now we're looking for a few clouds coming on through. slight chance for a shower tomorrow, but right now all eyes are on tropical storm isaac. it looks like it's really trying to get its act together, though the latest aircraft that just came out of there still finds winds of about 45 miles an hour, the center kind of tough to find right now. moving west at 20 miles an hour. i think this will stay a little farther to the south and that could mean a couple things. first off, for puerto rico just some rain and wind. not a huge deal but they could deal with some flooding. then it's going to come across hispanola, and if it interacts with these mountains, these are 10,000-feet peaks here. i do expect this to become a

hurricane, and it could increase a little bit more beforet moves across cuba and potential sb potentially into western florida or even the gulf. a lot of concern for the tampa region. this could be a little farther to the east and maybe a little stronger of a storm. we're going to watch the official forecast from the hurricane center bringing it close to tampa by monday. as far as our forecast is concerned, looking good. mostly clear. nice conditions. cool in the suburbs, down to about 56. again, watch out for some of that fog. 88 on friday, 88 on saturday, 88 on sunday. can't rule out the chance of a shower on saturday, but then nice weather continuing. highs in the upper 80s just about each day. no real hot weather. we have a couple cool nights out there, and as we mentioned yesterday, one of the nicest stretches we've seen in a while. >> it's nice. uh-huh. uh-huh. >> we've got sports coming up.

. we were hoping we'd be doing some sweeping tonight, but unfortunately that is not the case. the nationals did not do it tonight, though. they took on the braves, tried to make that sweep. eight games in the division. it seemed like highly probable that the nationals would get this done, but there is a reason they actually play the game. nice moment before the game as the nationals honored chipper jones in a ceremony. he is retiring after 19 seasons. very cool to be in the hall of fame. we begin at top of the 5th, prada hits the pitch and finds the gap over the head of brice harper. two runs in to score.

the braves would go up 2-0, and it would stay that way for a while. this is michael northrup. he fires out in left field. that was morris' first hit in the series. two on for ian desmond, but oh, no, it's right into the double play. a missed opportunity. the nationals had several of those tonight. they fall to the braves. . 5-1 is the final. the rangers took it to texas but the rapingers had a different idea. mitch morlin is going to touch them all. the rangers go up8-1. belltry already has two home runs for the night. can i have another? three home runs for beltry, two of them this inning. 12-3 the final over the o's.
