that night? >> reporter: tonight, prince county georges police listened. they said this was not a random murder and they brought in an f.b.i. crime analyst to help. >> right now, we do not have an exact suspect description that we can share with you. >> reporter: police say they're working leads but won't tell us what they are. on august 22nd, the masked gunman kicked down the door, went to amber's bedroom and shot her. two women and a child were also in the house but they weren't hurt. >> reporter: do you think she was the intended target? >> i don't know. i hope not. i hope to got not. >> reporter: for the first time, amber's mom tells me some people hated her daughter's success. she was an honor student. a model who dreamed of going to harvard. >> people very jealous and en envious. she was a simple girl. >> reporter: a simple girl, a complex case. police passed out fliers to residents reminding them that there's a $25,000 reward for

information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. in upper marlboro, i'm shamari stone, news 4. >> police are called to investigate the laurel police department. a cell phone video shows an officer hitting a man in handcuffs last month. leaders with the prince george's chapter of naacp say the video shows possible brutality. the officer in that video was currently on administrative duty. >> robbery does not appear to have been the motive in a shooting inside a rite aid in the northeast tonight, authorities are asking for your help in finding the gunman. surveillance video show him about 9:30 last night. police say he covered his face with a surgical mask and then shot an employee. the victim is expected to be okay. in april, surveillance cameras captured a different gunman, shooting a manager in a robbery

paralyzing him from the waist down. >> a teen found guilty for killing a catholic university graduate student. eric foreman was con vivicted o first-degree, premeditated murder. foreman was 16 at the time. he could face life in prison without parole. his sentencing is set for november 16th. >> now, to the storm clean-up, this huge tree blocking glee road in arlington won't stop traffic for your morning commute. crews were able to cut it up and haul it away. there's still a trail of damage. strong winds sent trees crashing into homes and cars on saturday. at least one family has been forced to move out after their house was declared unsafe. right now, no storms in sight. in fact, temperatures are dropping dramatically. storm 4 chief meteorologist lets

g-man once suspected of a death in aruba. giordano claims gardener was swept out to sea. he spent several months in custody but was released in november because of a lack of evidence. >> police have detained a man after a high-speed chase and door-to-door searches in a residential neighborhood. the chase began when officers tried to pull a truck over for speeding with tinted windows. the driver refused to stop and led police on a chase at times faster than 80 miles an hour. two bailed out and surrendered to police moments ago. >> another developing story tonight, 400,000 chicago students will not be back in

although it may appear, she is not on the vice president's p. he's just leaning behind her. and other election news, we learned that michelle obama will campaign this thursday. the first lady is going to speak in fredericksberg. nbc news has learned a missile strike killed a top al-qaida leader. a united states drone killed him and at least five others traveling with him in a car today. he's a saudi national who was held at guantanamo bay fr at least 6 years. >> you might go to some more police at the stations. in montgomery county, those officers will be using a new safety tool. they have devices on their belts that detect radiation.

the department also bought 40 of the detectors with federal grant money. all day tomorrow, the vic m victims are remembered. in the morning, thousands of people will remember the victims at the world trade center memorial site. there will be four minutes of silence. at the pentagon, the private service is planned for survivors and families of the victims. >> next on news 4, a bison charges at some kids but park officials say the animal isn't to blame. >> also, the gnats. it could spell trouble for fans come playoff time. >> some people spent thousands on one ride. park officials say they're out raged by this close call at yellowstone. you can see this group of tourists approaching this bison last month. when they got too close, you see what happens. it starts to charge the boy. the young boy narrowly misses being trampled. the park says the group is incredibly lucky. they also call the photographer irresponsible for encouraging the others to touch the bison.

>> despite several weeknight games and a potential playoff run, there's still no deal between metro and the nationals about games that end after the metro system closes. major league baseball officials may be to blame. he says mlb officials say no other teams pay to keep their respective transit systems running after hours. evan says they're concerned about a precedent. they cost nearly $30,000 an hour to keep metro opened late. a problem with overcrowding at fairfax high school could bring changes for hundreds of families. this school has a capacity of 2400 students. by 2014, at least 3,000 students are slated to be enrolled there. many other nearby high schools are also filled. school administrators say they need a brand new high school, but getting the land for that is an expensive proposition.
