good morning and welcome to news 4 midday. i'm keith russell. i'm barbara harrison. right now, police are canvassing a neighborhood hoping to solve the murder of a 17-year-old honors student. we are live from the kettering area with more on the investigation of the murder of amber. tony, what are they talking about at this time? >> reporter: all this morning, prince george's county police have been scouring the neighborhoods and local shopping centers passing out the flyer that shows the reward of $25,000

for leads in the murder of amber stanley. they are at this 7-eleven hoping somebody with information will step forward. >> somebody knows something. >> it's beyond barbaric. >> reporter: police are still without leads in the 17-year-old. >> i have a daughter. she's 12. if that happened to my child -- i -- i can't fathom what they are going through. >> reporter: this morning, officers reached out to the community handing out flyers and talking to residents hoping anyone with information might come forward. >> we meet here routinely to speak casually about crime trends and patterns. today is not an exceptional day. the information we are handing out is related to a murder. >> reporter: over the past few

days, they have taken precautions to make sure their children remain safe, a common theme echoed here. >> you don't know what your child is going to do when they get older. i'm trying to instill values in her head about the life here in the street, everything. she's making straight as, i said she needs to go to college and have her stuff together. >> parents in terms of safeguarding their children, keep track of them. if it's by way of cell phone, keep in communication with them. talk to your kids. >> reporter: barbara and keith, prince george's county police want anybody with information to call the police. you can call crimestpers or 911. make sure everybody knows your tips can be anonymous. >> thank you, tony. >> later today, central high school and prince george's county will honor a student killed earlier this week. students and staff at the school will wear light blue and release

more. >> the protests continue to grow across the middle east. four arrests have been made in the deaths of four americans earlier this week. several more suspects are under surveillance. now, the u.s. is sending a marine security team into yemen. they are small but violent protests. for the third day, the embassy in cairo is under siege. protesters haven't left the streets, clashing with the military throwing stones and molotov cocktails. erecting a new con treat wall to prevent mobs from getting close. they are mad over a movie made in the u.s. >> the united states government had nothing to do with this video. we absolutely reject its content and message.

>> reporter: so far, more than 200 people have been hurt in protests at 11 u.s. compounds, four killed in libya earlier this week. the protesters are a mix of islamic hard liners and huligans. christopher stevens was killed as protesters attacked on tuesday. also killed, sean smith and two former navy s.e.a.l.s working as contractors. stevens sister, hillary. >> he's been in these countries so long, i haven't reflected about how dangerous the work he was doing was. >> reporter: in lebanon, pakistan, sudan and jordan, more anti-american protests. in yemen thursday, protesters broke into the embassy parking

lot smashing windows. the fbi is working overseas and here at home investigating the man who posted the film online. he was on probation and not supposed to be on the internet. now, they are warning that extremist groups could act stateside. they haven't mentioned any specific threats but warn first responders here of the potential for protests. now the bodies of the four americans including the ambassador at the embassy in libya are expected to arrive in the united states sometime today. >> thanks for the update. right now, the man who tried to blow up the u.s. capital is receiving his sentence. he pleaded guilty earlier this year to trying to carry out a terror attack. authorities stopped the 29-year-old through an undercover fbi sting. he tried to use phony weapons he acquired from an undercover

agent believed to be an al qaeda operati operative. the sentence hearing is taking place inial exand rear ya. it's 11:08. a royal scandal. this one involving princess catherine. where the photos were taken and the reaction from the couple. the

romney. it was met with chants of usa from supporters. romney continued the attacks on the president's handling of the middle east. romney's running mate will hold a rally in harrisburg later this afternoon. it's been a busy political week in virginia in addition to romney, first lady, michelle obama was visiting richmond and fredericksburg. the president holds a five-point lead over romney in virginia and florida. h holds the same lead in florida and seven points in florida. all three states crucial to deciding the election. the president and first lady welcome many olympians to the white house. the president honored the

accounts. someone found the device at the cardiac care center in falls church. someone put it on the atm near the gift shop last month. that person used the device to steal from hospital workers, patients and visitors. they have four cases of fraudulent visitors. a security guard will be honored tonight. he's credited with disarming a gunman in the lobby of the frc building. he suffered a gunshot wound to his arm. tonight, he'll receive an award. authorities say the suspect disagreed with the council's politics. the board of health will consider regulations on abortions. they voted to apply standards to abortion clinics but exempts existing abortion clinics. they refused to certify the

rules arguing all abortion clinics should be held to the same standards. he told the board to seek outside council if it gets sued, making an exception for some. d.c. wants to solve the growing mosquitoe problem. people blame these keepers used to water trees along the sidewalks. the water inside is a breeding ground for mosquitos. with the threat of west nile, residents are cautious about how long they are staying outside. >> you can't sit out anymore. it's been awful. knowing someone who had west nile virus last year and is totally incapacitated, it's on your mind all the time now. >> health experts recommend pouring out or getting rid of standing water in your yard or neighborhood. they recommend using mosquitoe repellent and avoid walking

back to you both. thank you. installing cameras to watch cameras. there's been an increase in vandalism on the cameras. police are installing surveillance cameras to watch the speed cameras. they have been vandalized costing thousands of dollars to replace. police hope to have 12 cameras up in the next couple months to keep an eye on their surveillance cameras. a new monitoring system that can detect and warn of a problem that led to the deadly 2009 crash on the red line. before the transit agency reviewed data twice a day. this new system will review trains in realtime. metro has been running all trains in manual mode. this will help them return to automated control. metro's rush plus program has gotten mixed reviews especially from riders of the

blue line. they are hoping extra change in your pocket will smooth things over. blue line riders complained of fewer trains. metro is offering them a $5 fare card to transer to the yellow line. you can get one of the free fare cards tuesday and wednesday between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m. in pentagon city. a debate brewing over the shooting in colorado. the family members of the killed or wounded says the group in charge of the fund isn't giving out enough money to those affected by the shooting. they are appointing an independent arbitrator to over see it. they collected $5 million. the foundation gave $5,000 to the families affected. they have given large sums of money to mental health organizations. the man shot at morgan state

that and the rest of the day's business headlines. julia? >> good morning. stocks are trading higher after the best close in nearly five years. better than expected economic reports and the federal reserves decision to have easing. they are up by a half percentage point, nasdaq up by more than one percent. on the economic fronlt, a new survey claims consumer sentiment rose in september to the highest level in four months. americans were upbeat about job prospects. the largest increase in august since june, 2009. the highest jump in prices for three years. gas prices tend to fall including factors like hurricane isaac. they are still sky high.

apple shares hit an all time high as they took preorders for the new iphones. shipping estimates say it will take at least two weeks to deliver phones in the u.s., canada and the uk. there are some reports that within an hour, all iphone 5 preorders were sold out. pretty remarkable. i haven't gotten to put in my order yet. >> do you have the iphone 4? >> no, i don't. i was hoping to get this version. it may take awhile. >> all right. have a good weekend. thank you. the group that is a support network for latina's with cancer. larica is joining us to show us zumba moves. first, let's start with the services your organization provides. >> it was founded in 1996.
