for clues and the suspects. shomari stone is live on the scene. >> reporter: right now, we're here at northwest and north capitol street. moments ago, i received an update from the captain. basically shs he's saying five people have been shot. four are men. we have one woman. one is in critical condition. let me move out the way real quick and you can see that there's a crime scene van that arrived here a short time ago. basically, we're hering that this group was on the 1300 block. they were outside. all of the sudden, several shots were fired. four people were hit. one was grazed. and basically, right now, police are trying to figure out if this was random because around a block away they say there was another group of people and they were firing guns. and they're trying to figure out if they intentionally hit these people or were they just shooting up in the air and the bullets hit the vick imthes. one thing is clear. this is an active scene and a woman trying to get home has to

wait. >> i'm kind of scared because it's in my neighborhood. i'm trying to get home and i'm worried. i just want to go to my house. >> reporter: back out here live, you can see police are out here searching for a group of suspects. right now, we're also hearing that there was a hooting here around a week ago. that's what a lot of residents are telling me. we're trying to see if there was a connection from a shooting that happened here a week ago. >> a tragic ending to the search for a missing boater in charles county. a 29-year-old man drowned in trinity lake west of mechanicsville. he was reportedly out fishing when he fell into the lake about 5:30. investigators say the victim did not know how to swim. hec

hefgts he was a member of the ammish community. >> figrefighters pulled three people from a burning apartment. one of the victims was a four-month-old baby. investigators say that fire started on a ground-level apartment and then the flames quickly spread. no one was injured. >> tonight, the sole survivor of a fiery crash in chevy chase was convicted on two misdemeanor charges. prosecutors say that rico richardson and three friends took a stolen car on a joyride back in march. the car crashed and burst into flames killing everyone inside but richardson. richardson's family has filed a $10 million civil suit against the department. >> some bars are be staying open until 4:00 in the morning. it's part of a new plan to

generate extra toll lars from revenue from alcohol sales for the city. but not everyone thinks that's a good idea. >> hey, jim. a lot of city officials were probably hoping that this weekend they would start seeing the cash to start flowing in. but it looks like it's going to be more of a soft open this weekend. this columbus day weekend will be the first run of a new licy that allows 42 bars and restaurants in the district to keep the drinks flowing until 4:00 a.m. on holidays. the extended hours will only take place before federal and district holidays. lima lounge is already open until 3:00 a.m. on weekends but has to stop serving alcohol at 2:00. people coming out at 1:00, 2:00 in the morning, it's not that much longer. >> they won't be going until 4:00 a.m. this time around. >> columbus day is a less of a

picked a lock at a nearby office to get in. but they didn't notice the camera and made no attempt to cover their faces. police hope somebody will recognize this pair and come forward. >> this video of a violent collision has just been released. it's prompting changes to an intersection in new hampshire. it happened last month. everyone involved walked away with only minor injuries. town officials in pelham, new hampshire say they're going to redesign that intersection. more than 30 crashes have been reported there in the last four years. >> the search is under way for a missing dog after his walker says she was attacked. beth kindler was walking murray and her other dogs. the man started yelling claiming murray bit him. the dog escaped from his collar. the man grabbed her and started

gotten hooked on the warm weather. our temperatures have been really nice. upper 70s to around 80 degrees. today was one of those rare times where we had the warmth and the sunshine. it was so pretty. did you see the sunset? >> i saw it. i saw the picture of it that you showed earlier. >> exactly. so if you missed it, here it is. it was absolutely gorgeous we got up to a high of 83 degrees. again, most of this week, we've had the warmth. but, today, it was just so pretty. and, above the average high of 72 degrees. now we're going to be moving into this pattern where over the next few days, our temperatures are going to be below average. 69 degrees is the current temperature. the wind out of the south at 12

miles per hour, currently. and it's headed on down. why? well, again, we've got a clear sky. we're seeing the mercury drop. we're going to see some chilly air coming in with a cold front. a mighty strong cold front. so that's the first time you'll notice that change coming. so throughout the day on saturday, it's not going to be a big change coming just yet. when this front comes through, with some rain, you'll notice a 10-150 degrees drop in the mercury. so, again, saturday night, some chilly air. here we are for tomorrow morning dropping to 55 degrees and around mt. airy. down south, around fredericksburg, starting out at around 59 degrees. that really is about seasonal for this area.

here's what's going to happen. we've got that cold front springing areas to the west. it's not going to have as much rain with it. we'll see a few showers with a 30% chance of a few scattered showers. the main thing with that front is the colder air that will be coming in. and then on sunday, tracking the low pressure that will be making its way northward. there will be some scattered showers around on sunday afternoon and then a little bit more rain coming in cold. 37 frederick, 38 in gaithersburg starting out on monday. so we've got a great start to the day tomorrow. most of saturday, not bad. we'll be in the 70s. take a look at this 7-day forecast. 55 the

we leave you tonight with an incredible rescue up in new york. there's surveillance video that shows a 77-year-old driver accelerate backwards into a group of people. a woman and her two grandchildren were pinned under that car. but, then, more than a dozen good samaritans who saw it all happen rushed over and lifted up the vehicle and pulled them all out of there. my goodness. all three were taken to the

hospital with cuts and broken bones. we are told that they are going to be okay. probably in large part because of the quick action of all of those people that happened to be just standing by. the man who was driving that car was 77 years old. he says that he thought he hit the break and not the gas. and that's how it happened.
