aren't in yet, but tonight's tweets surpassed 4 million just mid way through the debate. and a lot of people took to twitter in the washington area to voice their opinions. the biggest moment on social media happened early in the debate when the president and mitt romney came within a couple feet of each other as each raised their voice talking about oil production. carl barth, jr. said get them some boxing gloves, said that on twitter. as far as the candidates connecting with the people, karen davis writes both candidates have won some points in this debate. neither comes across as likable. also, asked on twitter, we wanted to know the questions that you wanted answered that didn't come up. mark russel writes we "need" to hear about the military. something obviously that's very important here around the beltway. we heard from amanda from fairfax county. she writes poverty in a real way.

searching for the suspect in this case. they're going to go back to the lab, look at the evidence and then decide how to move forward. here in silver spring, i'm shomari stone, news 4. >> a developing story in new eng england. a 4.0 magnitude earthquake was felt in maine. it was about three miles under ground. a store employee a few miles away thought a gas explosion caused the building to shake there. >> i heard a bang. and it felt like the building was just shaking. it went on for three seconds and then started shaking again. >> items fell off shelves but there's no reports of major damage from that quake. >> a second person in virginia has died from that nationwide meningitis out break. that raises the death toll to 16. more than 230 others are sick. the news comes as federal criminal investigators raided the massachusetts pharmacy linked to the injections.

steroid injections were contaminated. on monday, the food and drug administration warned other drugs from the pharmacy may have been taken as well. >> two men from virginia are back home now after a harrowing ordeal. they spent five days in glacial national park stranded in the sthoe. tonight, we'll learn about their fight to survive. >> reporter: jim, the two hikers are with their families tonight. they're nestled in their homes. one of them in a home right behind these gates. they're surrounded by family, by friends, home-cooked meals and we were there to greet them. jason heiser and pekins are back. >> how are you feeling? >> honestly, overwhelmed. overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from everyone that our family has received. and we really appreciate that.

disappointing news for metro riders. it may be another three years before cell phone service is available throughout the rail system. today was metro's initial deadline to provide wireless access in all the tunnels and stations using federal funds. now, they're asking congress for another extension. they say the work is more complex than originally anticipated. december, 2015 is the projected date now. to finish the project. >> tonight, there's a new push to take some of the sting out of the speed camera tickets in d.c. some drivers sfface up to $250 fines for just one violation. but some council members are

prices of walmart, best buy, toys are us and babies are us. best buy recently started a similar program. >> oh,my, it's not time to start thinking about holiday shopping yet, is it? >> it's time two months ago for some. >> not for me, quite yet. it is feeling colder out there though. >> it is. you walk outside, you can see your breath. many locations, some of you down into the 30s. if you're right downtown, you're still sitting in the low 50s. out towards the washington monument, looking at a temperature of about 52 degrees. the high temperature today, a very, very nice 65 this afternoon. a beautiful fall afternoon, and, yes, we were below average. average high temperature is 6 8 degrees. so three degrees below average. sunset tonight was at 6:29.

now, before 6:30. tomorrow, the sun will not come up until after 7:20. we continue to see our days shrinking. 52 degrees the current temperature out there wind out of the southwest at 3 miles an hour. not bad, right? 52. well, again, that's in the city. take a look in the suburbs. already down to 39 in frederick. 41 in gaitherburg. so you can see where the coldest air is. you could see some frost out there. there are no frost advisorieadv however, as this area has seen the end to the growing season. the frost will not come tonight as i don't think temperatures will drop below that critical mark. now, as far as the rain is concerned, no rain to talk about. next 12, 24, maybe even 48 hours before we see our next chance of rain. but we do have some high clouds coming in.

clear skies with temperatures to crawl even more. the temperatures are not going to go down all that much more. right now, we're at 41 in many locations. if we didn't have the cloud cover, we uld be all the way down into the low 30s. but because of the clouds, we will be a little bit warmer. i think temperatures in the mid to upper 30s for most of you back to the west. 36 in martinsburg and 36 in frederick. that's where you could see some frost there. temperatures may rise tomorrow morning. maybe around 41 degrees over towards monassiss. we saw nice weather today with high pressure. high pressure tomorrow, moves down to the south and east. here comes some milder weather. tomorrow is a beautiful day. thursday looking good, too. we do have another storm system. it's a frontal boundary that will move through late thursday and into thursy night. i think thursday will be dry. thursday night, however, has a good chance for some showers. maybe some thunderstorms. so we'll, of course, keep you posted on that.

maryland schools are number one in america because we invest in them. but we can do even more. every year marylanders spend five hundred and fifty million dollars at casinos in other states. question 7 keeps that maryland money in maryland through expansion of gaming in maryland. it will mean hundreds of millions of dollars for our schools. as governor, i can promise you, that money will go to education. that's the law and that's what we'll do. vote for question seven. and balanced the budget every year. and tim kaine and i both cut our own pay as governors, to lead by example. mark warner and i reached across party lines to get things done.
