>> two teenagers robbed at gunpoint. >> a bullet pierced through a family's home into the room of a sleeping toddler. tonight, we'll tell you how it got there and who's responsible. >> but, first, breaking news out of silver spring after a five-car pile up on university boulevard. police are looking for the driver who left the scene of the crash. a pedestrian was hit. she's listed in critical don digs tonight. we're told a second person was hurt, but that person's condition is not as serious. officers were searching for a newer model black pick-up truck with possible damage to the front passenger side. >> new developments in a foiled terror plot. tonight, a 21-year-old man is accused of trying to set off what he thought was a bomb outside the federal reserve building just a few blocks from the world trade center. the f.b.i. says the suspect came here to the u.s. from bangladesh. he was on a student visa. and he originally wanted to attack the new york stock exchange.

he ultimately wanted to disrupt, he said, the presidential election. >> reporter: federal officials say this man attempted to blow up the federal reserve building in new york city the other day. the 21-year-old was arrested in an f.b.i. sting. >> the new york is the top of the target list in this country. and i think this just reaffirms that. >> according to the justice department, nofice traveled from his queens apartment to a nearby warehouse where he assembled the van bomb. then, after attempting to detonate the substance, nofice was taken into custody. >> i thif it shows, again, that law enforcement is vigilant. >> nofice arrived on a student

visa. he told a confidential informant he wanted to form a terror cell here in the u.s. he plotted several places for his attack but settled on the federal reserve building. a scary thought for those who live and work in the area. >> it actually makes me feel like i don't want to come to work tomorrow. >> reporter: this afternoon, he appeared alongside his court-appointed attorney. he is charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization. nafis did not enter a plea and was ordered held without bail. curt greg sdlt ory, nbc news. >> metro stations feature a photo of the twin towers. next to it is a verse from the koran that says soon shall we

cast terd ror into the hearts ofts nonbelievers. that's the same group that created the anti-jihahd posters that are now up at several stations. >> new polls are divided about who won last night's presidential debate. even some people who asked questions say they remain undecided after the contentious show down. still, the candidates are uf mooing forward and the focus is on battleground, virginia. >> you know, we're going to win virginia, you know that? >> the romney camp returned to this key battleground state giving his opponent a poor debate report card before a supportive crowd estimated at around 8,000. >> we have one weekend left after a final debate.

candidates when he was massachusetts' governor. but he did remind this crowd that there are now 20 days to go until election day. in leesburg, jim rosenfield, news 4. >> president obama will campaign in northern virginia on friday. he'll be speaking at george mason university. but, tonight, he focused on another battleground state. the president spoke to students at ohio university and didn't shy away from romney's remarks on finding women to fill cabinet posts when he was governor. >> see, we don't have to order up some binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women. to learn and tiech and pride and start businesses. >> friday's appearance at george mason will be the president's second in just two weeks. >> two teenagers who were robbed at gun point in the middle of the street here in d.c. police say they were targeted because of their speakers.

>> reporter: one is recovering with a gunshot wound on his arm. d.c. police stepped up bpatrols on the 2000 block of avenue southeast. the trouble started inside is this convenience store. they were wearing the duncans valued at more than $200. and then, all of the sudden, it came right out here on to the sidewalk and that's where the confrontation continued. police sources tell me the suspects robbed them for the nikes and the gun misfired. medics rushed the teen to a hospital. >> it's pathetic. >> terrible to know that someone would think that tennis shoes is worth shooting someone over. >> reporter: i'm here at a shop that sells high end sneakers. and this one right here cost more than $200.

the victim suffered a concussion, but the judge says there's no proof that prince george's county police officers meant to inflict permanent injuries. >> 124 comes after the u.s. antidoping agency banned armstrong from cycling for using performan performance-enhancing drugs. earlier in the day, armstrong lost the livestrong. nike and trent bicycles have all cut ties. armstrong has never admitted to doping. >> more fallout from a prostitution scandal in maine. a high school hockey coach is stepping down after his name appeared on a list of men accused of paying a fitness

a bad scene up in philadelphia. surveillance cameras captured it all. you see the suspect get into the car. the owner waits in line trying to pay for gas. the man then reached into the vehicle as the car driver -- as the carjacker tried to get away. the guy got dragged a few feet as the suspect drove off. that mini van was later found just a few blocks away. police are still looking for the suspects, though. >> a bullet pierced through a home and into a family's bedroom. and now, a neighbor is facing charges after what police call reckless behavior. erica gonzalez is in frederic fredericksburg, virginia with a

ferguson for unlawful handling of a firearm and unlawful discharge of that firearm. the next thing he knew, this fredericksburg dad says he saw neighbors waltzing out with guns. >> there were totes that came out. you could see the ammunition sticking out. >> we tried contacting ferguson, but all we found was a door with an eviction notice. detectives say he didn't initially report anything, but fessed up. >> he was definitely shaken up. >> what ferguson was doing when the gun went off is still unknown. in virginia, erica gonzalez, news 4. >> a pepco lineman turned into a lifesaver today. he found a sleeping toddler and

brought him out to safety. the toddler's mother was down the driveway putting the other two children on the school bus. >> the smoke was very thick going into the kitchen area. you couldn't see anything. all i saw was the flame and then i saw the flame get bigger. >> a blessing. they're really a god send because i don't know what would have happened. >> it's still not clear how that fire started, but the mother told us she isn't sure if she left the stove on while she was trying to get her kids off to school. that's a lucky little boy there. >> for sure. >> it's gotten a hole lot colder tonight, doug. >> it's chilly tonight, but nothing like what we saw last night. some areas were in the 30s by this point. >> it was so lovely out today, it was just a shock. >> it was quite lovely. awl across our area, not a single complaint as far as i heard, anyway, no matter where you were during the day today, you saw plenty of sunshine and nice temperatures. right now, still looking pretty nice. but doreen says it's cold

outside. so let's take a look. you want to see someplace that's real cold? colorado. how about this. the first ski resort of the season opened up today. this is a basin. they call it a basin out there. it's one of the tallest ski resorts in the country. the summit? 13,500 feet. they have one ski resort -- ksk run open and one lift. that didn't stop hundreds of people from get k out there. they take their skiing seriously. for the record today, a low of 46. we ended very nicely. the record high, 86 degrees. currently sitting at 58 degrees. last night at this time, we were down around 52. a few degrees warmer. winds out of the south around 10 miles an hour. down to 46 in frederick, 48 in leesburg. 57 down towards fredericksburg.

temperatures will be a little bit warmer tomorrow morning than they were earlier this morning. but you still may need the jacket as you step out. no rain to talk about for least the next 12-18 hours. and then we'll see some things change. a big storm system, and i mean a big storm system. this one goes from canada all the way down towards the gufl f of mexico. line of severe storms all the way down towards the gulf. even a few tornadoes reported from this line. and it is going to move our way. the good news for us? we're not going to see the severity that they saw out to the west. but we'll still have a chance for some severe weather here. we saw plenty of sunshine as high pressure is still dominating. tomorrow, i think we get nice and warm with temperatures into the 70s in most locations. that cold front will move through fairly slowly tomorrow evening. notice around 5:00, we're on the dry side. it will move through and move out of here by friday. friday, looking warm, too. with partly sunny skies. i think friday is looking like a pretty nice day.

let's break down this storm for you and show you when it comes in. here's tomorrow and our future weather about noon. i really don't think you have to worry during the rush hour. here it is around 9:00. you can see a few isolated showers. maybe couple of thunderstorms but the latest models actually bring this in a little bit later now, around 2:00 a.m. the latest this comes through, the less chance we have for severe weather. we could still see some strong storms, but right now, the best chance would be overnight thursday night. temperatures 42 to 52 degrees. high tempture in the low 70s. 72 on friday. posz early shower friday. right now, the weekend looking spectacular with highs in the 60s and even better next week. highs in the 70s. >> looking good. >> we'll take it. >> tonight is a new video showing moments when an

finally tonight, an amusement park ride was just too much for one guy. this is a man and his girlfriend on a slingshot style roller coaster. both are screaming at the top of their lungs. wait a minute, he just blacks out for a second. he appears to faint. but, then, he wakes up. and he starts screaming again. that video has received more than 330,000 view. it will get 330,000 more. look at him. that's trippy. and then he just wakes up. >> i wouldn't want to be on that. >> he did it better than i would. maryland schools are number one in america because we invest in them. but we can do even more. every year marylanders spend five hundred and fifty million dollars at casinos in other states. question 7 keeps that maryland money in maryland through expansion of gaming in maryland. it will mean hundreds of millions of dollars for our schools. as governor, i can promise you, that money will go to education.
